If we win on Friday I'm going to believe

It feels like we’re doing a Leicester. Everyone’s expecting us to mess up and fall away at some point, but we just keep charging on

I have to say, I don't know how anyone can say they believe we'll get promotion this early on. If we were 6 pts clear at the top maybe, but even then.

For example, if we finish 3rd with 82 points we'll have had an incredible season but we won't have been promoted. We'd still be in this division. We would then go into the playoffs, where we may or may not succeed. At that point it's so difficult to call that there's almost no point in making predictions.

I would have more faith we would actually win the damn thing under this squad/manager than any other in the past, but i'd never be confident it was a certainty.

I think the most accurate summation would be to say, if we beat leeds, that we can believe its a real possibility we can go up, or that we're confident we'll have a great season, or finish in the top 6, but it's a bit too early just yet for much more than that imo.

I expect us to win every game, what's more I fully expect us to get promoted, if Chris Wilder remains at the helm.

I honestly believed, that after last season, we would be at least in the top six of the championship.

The fact is that many of the so called big teams, are made up of players earning money far far beyond their worth. They don't care about their club, they have no desire, drive or stomach for a fight. Scouts or managers can suss us out, but they can't motivate their players to outfight us. They all just want to stroll about, dwell on the ball and play at a nice leisurely pace. Those players can't suddenly grow a pair of bollocks because they're playing Sheffield United next Saturday.

I honestly believe only top half Premiership teams could counteract our style by out footballing us. But by the time we meet them, the personnel may have changed but the togetherness will remain

UTB :)

Our home record is a massive boost.

6 wins out of 7 and 2.57 points per game sets a great platform for success. That's 59 points in a full season.

We're 9 from 18 away, so 1.5 per game.

On for 95 points with 28% of the season gone.

We expect to have ups and downs but reasons to be cheerful. The 13 games to date includes 4 losses and most have been unfortunate not to mention we've come through a huge injury crisis and still sit where we do right now.

The thing is, every time a team work out a system to beat us, or threaten us, CW and AK learn from it and find a way to combat it. They learn and learn well. The team listen and implement what they are told and everyone buys into it whole heartedly. That’s why we are doing so well at the moment and, hopefully, for the rest of the season.

...but come 10pm on Friday I hope more than anything to be walking back to my car loudly and proudly singing "We're Sheff United, we're top of the league."

Can't fucking wait.
Well if you want your head kicked in you can. I shall be waiting till I am back in the car and a mile away before I start singing anything.

As someone said earlier, Leeds were top in October last season and absolutely flying. They didn't even make the play offs, We're doing great now, but long way to go.

Whilst I will probably be in a pub a mile or so away, listening to the whinging and waiting til I get home ;)

Some of the stuff on here these days :oops:

It’s October. Barnsley had a flyer their first season in the Champ and fell away massively in the second half of the season.

Far too early to predict anything, just enjoy the current run and if / when the bubble bursts, keep backing the lads & CW.

Indeed - some of us remember the 70's with Leeds - nasty lot then and not convinced they are actually any better having worked there for 6 years up to 2009

If we can keep our key players fit, Fridays result will be somewhat irrelevant over the course of 46 games.

It’s a game we can win, but my belief in this side will not wane should we lose.

I'm just taking it one game at a time irrespective of Fridays result!. Wilder said at the start of the season that he wanted to reach the 50 points mark!. We're over halfway there already. I'll settle for that at the moment. I'll just wait and see what happens during the rest of the season. I'm loving every minute of what's happening so far. I'd love us to gain another promotion!!. I'll remain cautiously optimistic as I've got complete faith in wilder and knill. Utb

I wouldn't. That means you'd be happy with 23 points from the remaining 33 games? That would be a disaster eclipsing anything Wilson, Clough or Adkins managed and would put him in the same bracket as Adams, Weir & Robson. C'mon, get out from behind the sofa!

Enjoy the ride. For now.

We've gone past the famous '10-game mark' and passed that test with flying colours. Next 'landmark' in my view will be Villa away; our 23rd game of the season which means we're exactly halfway through it. But we've got some rough seas up ahead in my eyes.

I can see us having a very good November, possibly winning all our games (Hull, Fulham, Brum at home, Burton away), but December into January looks a killer...

Dec
Millwall (A)
Brizzle City (H)
Preston (A)
Villa (A)
Sunderland (H)
Bolton (H)

Jan
Derby (A)
FA Cup 3rd Rd Weekend
Pigs (H)

Four very tough looking games in a row there. Derby away is TWO DAYS after Bolton at home (30th Dec and 1st Jan respectively). If we can get 12 points from December I'll be very happy. If we were doing poorly then I'd hope for a glamour tie in the FA Cup, but let's hope we get someone shit so we can rest key players but still grab a victory and progress. Then it's derby time again and all that comes with that.

If we can get into the new year still around the top 6, it might be time to start dreaming the dream. Champagne shouldn't be anywehere fucking near the ice...it should still be in a warehouse somewhere waiting to be delivered to your nearest Morrisons, eventually to be bought around the start of March :D

. I wasn't meaning to say that wilder is in the same bracket as Adams or weir!!. He's already proved that he's in a class of his own!. I know we'll get a lot more than 50 points. More than likely it'll be nearer 85 points or more. I don't know if that's enough for automatic promotion?. We don't know how other teams will do. I'm loving every moment of this season and long may it continue. In wilder we trust. UTB

Perhaps better to live in hope rather than expectation.

When we are playing Bolton at home, Derby are away at Ipswich.

I said before the start of the season we'd be pushing for the top 6, probably between 8th and 10th - and if we signed well in January we should make the top 6. Now I'd revise that to saying top 6 minimum and if we sign well in Jan then a close thing for auto.

Nothing's certain of course and I can understand folks being cautious. But I've never seen a more professional and consistent Sheffield United than this one and I go back to the late 60''s/early 70's. So I think there's every reason to be confident that we'll be there or thereabouts at the end of the season. Regardless of what happens on Friday - that won't change my mind one iota either way tbh.

Working out how they play is one thing, stopping it is another entirely. Every team in the division will know how United play, with scouting and ProZone and God knows what else. As good as the tactics and system are, they’re no great secret. The beauty is in how well they’re planned, and then executed.

This chap is too good for The Star...
:)

Well it is said 10 games in gives you an insight on how your team will do we are now approaching a third of the season gone and we sit in third place. Now every season there is a team at the top that implodes and one lower down that goes on an incredible run into the play offs. Considering we seem to be getting better as the season progresses and the amount of injuries we have had so far I can see no reason for us to be a team that will fall apart. We are where we are on merit my only concern is we don't always get to kill teams off and have a nervy last 15mins against teams who should have been buried by half time. On the opening day of the season I expected a top 10 finish so anything better is a bonus, now my expectations are a play off spot and top two a bonus.

There is also usually a team that isn't fancied at all who does well. Here's hoping...
