Would that finish you off as a Blade?

No. Selling players off and us sliding down the league wouldn't finish me off. It hasn't so far, so why should it now? I remember us getting rid of Jones, Birchenall and Currie ... for whatever reasons lie therein. Still a Blade.

If Long and Maguire went, it would possibly confirm my suspicions that McCabe may be squeezing the club dry to get back what he claims to have put in, despite some shady-arsed pissing about that only he'd claim was in the best interests of the club in the past years. It's bollocks (in my opinion) and he wants out, but to vouchsafe he gets his cash back (largely at the expense of the supporters and club itself) he'll stick it out until we go bust and he can have the first shovelful. Selling our vaguely three best players in a season we have stayed too long in the third tier of English Football would simply lay bare the obscenity of Sheffield's football scene in full effect.

But stop me from being a Blade? Who else is there to support?

I don't think I'd even manage to muster up the "m" out of " meh".

If their departure was part of a deal to bring other (decent) players in, I could live with that.

It wouldn't finish me off, but we're having a laugh if we think it'd allow us to strengthen.

Perhaps if we had a Wallcott type who we'd get silly money for. But that's not the case.

As I said on another thread, they can go for me. They aren't that good and we're hardly pulling any trees up with them in the squad. If it means that prick gets his money back a little quicker and pisses off sooner then it's for the best.

To be honest, I no longer really give a shit if they stay or go. They'll be sold eventually, won't be adequately replaced and our decline will continue. Why delay the inevitable? Whether that view means I'm finished as a Blade or not, I don't know. I still say I support them if someone asks and have a season ticket that I'll probably end up renewing, just for something to do every other Saturday, but I can muster very little enthusiasm about us. I no longer even defend us to non-Blades like I vehemently used to. Now I just agree: "The Blades? Yeah, we're shit aren't we."

If there were any signs that those in charge had any plan, or even intentions, of us actually improving in my lifetime, I might be a bit more enthused about the club.

Luckily, as I'm only 27, McCabe snr should either die or retire during my lifetime, but then there's his sons to carry on the family's stewardship.

Oh well...

No, but a return to non-football, as presently advocated by our amoebic branch, certainly would.

We've always sold our best players, and I still have a season ticket. That doesn't mean that I like the selling off, but I'm not going to have a big hissy fit and never come again when someone is sold.

How are you enjoying your trip to Amsterdam Brooms???

I haven't been to Amsterdam for about 20 years. I'm comfortably at home in Lincolnshire.

Or is there a subtle message in your question that has gone over my head?

Yes, we'd have to go as far as, hmm, McDonald to see we never get to find out what fees we get, or that we always fail to adequately replace players.

If McCabe was in charge of the Gareth Bale transfer, it would be 'undisclosed fee'.

In a really twisted way it would be funny to see it get to that point. We would literally have nothing left worth selling.

Every single decent player we've had has been flogged and we haven't replaced a single one of them adequately.

Yeah about £8million!

Yes - I'd give up on SUFC and devote my energies to more constructive pursuits such as berating posters on here after every poor result, studying the SUFC Accounts badly and coming up with crap puns involving McCabe's surname.

Wallcott Oxlade-Chamberlain Bale. Southampton have the magic touch. Not only do they sign and develop young talent, when they sell, they sell well and on their terms. So, what is it that they have and we don't when it comes to identifying a young player? What they do not have of course is a McCabe at the helm.

Both still have a lot to learn and are both some way off decent Champioship level imo. If they went the would both probably get loaned out straight back to div 3

dont know if you noticed but saints fell to league 1 after selling said players, in fact were here 3 seasons back,

Agreed. The harsh reality is that they are only still playing for us because, at the moment, they are no more than decent third division players. If they get better than that, the likes of Blackburn or Bolton will come along with a couple of million and we will snap their hands off.

Mmm blade too long, a fair point. They did continue to develop better players than us though, and they got themselves out of the mess. The point that I was trying to make was that they never knowingly undersold:)

Been through worse as a Blade to be fair, I'll always be a Blade through and through no matter what.

But I don't understand people who say it won't make a difference... Howard has pretty bad against Burton and overall Long IS the better goalkeeper. Maguire leaving would make a HUGE difference! I believe he is one of the best central defenders in this league and he has still a lot of room for improvement, which undoubtedly he WILL improve in time. And who else would we play with Collins? Hill? Higginbotham? McGinty? I know Hill is a decent centre back but he's getting on and is far too small when put up against huge target men, e.g Steve Howard last year? Collins and Maguire are a great partnership and nobody else who is already at the club can fill Maguire's boots.

They were rescued by a rich man. Sad to say, but Wendy and Bradford are better case studies for a club in our position. Indebted and punching below weight for the medium term.

No,because Harry Maguire isn't as good as he could be at this level, lets take the playoff semi final 2nd leg against Yeovil second goal, Maguire left the player that scored unmarked while he was not marking one person, while Hill had to deal with 2 forwards trying to score, but I'm not saying he couldn't improve but he won't go because if people want him he would have gone by now, I only see a team buying him if another team's CB gets injured.

Now Long is a future talent, doing well but if we lost him now it wouldn't be bad for the present, it would be bad for the future

I think the original point was would it completely deflate the hell out of you as a Blade, rather than make you go off and support Man Utd/Doncaster/Leeds/W*dn*sd*y etc etc... I reckon Long will go, Maguire won't but i could be wrong. I'm already resigned to it getting worse before it (if it does in my lifetime) gets better. Interesting thing to note is the player who HAS gone so far is the vilified, Ku Klux Klan member*, Al-Quida sympethiser*, Conservative voting*, paedophile loving* Kevin McDonald, who just so happened to be our most saleable asset in the short term,

*not true but might as well have been given the response to his apparent desired departure
