Would you consider him as a club legend?

  • Yes of course, took us from League 1 to 9th in the Prem, bouncing day massacre and derby double etc

  • No, he walked out on us when we was in the dumps, wasted millions of pounds on crap signings etc

  • Not sure

He is a legend and nothing that's happened in his second spell has come close to changing that. I really struggle to understand how people can question that, to be honest.

I think it's time for a change but he can leave with his head held high.
Maybe the awful boring football the second spell? The appalling fitness levels? The targeting of same players from 4 transfer windows ago? The embarrassing behaviour of a professional football manager?

The football has been boring and I’m not a fan of the lack of imagination in the transfer market. Those are the two main reasons I’m for a change. But they don’t overshadow what he’s done for the club. Not even close.

Exactly. Whatever my thoughts on him personally and what his second spell has been like, his first spell was sensational. His brand of football may be boring now, but from 2016-2019, it's fair to say that many people hadn't ever seen anything like it. Can anyone remember the countless YouTube videos or articles written about 'overlapping centre-halves' and how revolutionary they were?

I think he's a bit of a prick and I don't think his second spell as manager has been anywhere near as successful as his first, but he is undoubtedly a legend. Two promotions in three seasons speaks for itself.

Despite the boring football last season we were still (league wise) the division's 3rd best team with a points total that normally gets you up. Despite my frustration at a dismal 2nd half performance in the final I reckon he's earned another crack.

I am concerned about the AI lucky dip plucking players out of the Bulgarian rural tractor leagues but then I was also concerned about the Iron horse I was on reappearing from a long dark railway tunnel and how all my money was going to fit on a piece of plastic a few inches long so I'll wait and see.

Still baffled also by our willingness to buy players who are known to spend most of their time in A&E and it makes me wonder exactly what a 'fitness test' Is exactly!

And it appears you’ll believe anything as long as it supports your view that Widler walks on water. Board could have done a better job than Widler then. Any views on whether the earth is flat?
I believe Laney is close to people at the club and has been right on many things before

Wilder gone I've heard, Gary O'Neill arriving next week, he's had talks over the weekend

Such a good record!

Bournemouth:
  • 2022/23: Appointed as head coach, guiding the team to Premier League safety, finishing 15th.
  • June 2023: Sacked by Bournemouth.
Wolverhampton Wanderers:
  • 2023/24: Started the season as manager, leading Wolves to a 14th-place finish.

  • 2024/25: A poor run of form, including 11 losses in 16 matches, resulted in his dismissal on December 15, 2024.

  • Record at Wolves: 20 wins, 11 draws, and 32 losses in all competitions (53 Premier League games with 15 wins, 10 draws, and 27 defeats).

  • Wolves' position at dismissal: Second-from-bottom with nine points.

Wilder hasn’t gone yet. Is this just a media story. If so shows how much we are easily controlled.
Personally wasn’t happy with the Wilder left us, especially with a golden handshake.

Did you want to him to forgo his payout? Would you pass over money you were contractually due when leaving a job?

Laney is, indeed, close to a couple of program sellers and was once right in making the choice to have a nice glass of water rather than another gin.

Much of the weirdness seems to be situated around Table 18 aka The Twilight Zone.

He's only been in management for a little over two seasons, and was sacked from both his previous jobs. Never managed in the Championship. What's not to like?

If he’s not a legend then what do you have to do 😂 some unitedites take for granted massively where we are right now. Before he took us over we were in league 1 and the only way felt like it was down.

Make no mistake, Wilder and Knill single-handedly got this club out of the shit. Not the prince, not the fans, not the players, those 2. They dragged the entire club from the worst place in decades to the best place in decades.

Wilder’s got a flaw, however. Big money signings. He can’t do them in the slightest. Wilder’s next step has to be the acknowledgment of this and to accept a director of football. He should however be allowed to bring in low risk, low fee players as there aren’t many better in football than him at that style recruitment. The Cannon signing, I expect, is probably giving him a few sleepless nights this summer. That money gets spent on Darling and Dunne and we’re up already.

This squad needs another season in the championship though. Burrows, Seriki, Peck, Arblaster, O’Hare, Campbell, Brooks do not need a season of getting ripped to shreds when they can have a season developing and winning football matches. There’s no one better in football to help that crop of players than wilder.
I agree regarding Wilder and Knill getting us out of League 1 and to the dizzy heights of 9th in the Premier League. It something that should never be forgotten. But I find it an insult to the players during that period to say they had nothing to do with it and what about US the supporters who paid hard earned cash over those years to back Wilder, Knill and those players.

I was one of those fans paying my money and hold that in the highest regard. However, most of the players and all of the fans were there during the slide and 6 year stay in league 1. Coutts and Basham, 2 players who were not doing well at bramall lane and are now part of the fabric of the club, especially the latter. They epitomise what he’s done for us as a club.

Makes me a bit sad tbh that even when something unbelievable has happened to us, a boyhood blade who loves the club to bits makes a boyhood blade the captain and fires us from 3rd tier to challenging to Europe actually sparks a debate of whether not he’s a legend 😂😂 if he isn’t please tell me who is

The first Wilder era upto Covid was the best in my lifetime and I’ll be forever be greatful for that - it was astonishing!

However he should never have come back due to the manner he left us, it was complete betrayal.

This season has all be about missed opportunities, poor decision making and wasted money…. as much as I respect his first spell, he’s fallen in to the trap of being an older manager now who just can’t accept his failings and is so so set in his ways now is the time to part ways, we need to move on now from the last era and make fresh memories, given the right finance and strategy we are primed for success… BUT NOT WITH W

Transfer window reopens tomorrow so wouldn't be surprised if the announcement is tomorrow as well.

Hey up yeah I get where you are coming from but through life I have never been one for putting people on a pedestal, wether it be footballers, movie stars or musicians. I do appreciate what people have done for the club and respect/thank them for their contributions. I do have favourites probably to many to name. Manager wise that includes John Harris, Dave Bassett, Colin Warnock and Chris Wilder.

Players well - Trevor Hockey, Geoff Salmons, TC, Eddie Colquhoun, John Mc Phail (664 total carreer appearances amazing), Tony Kenworthy, Brian Deane, Tony Agana, Colin Morris, Ian Bryson, Bob Booker, Chris Basham, Phil Jagielka, Billy Sharpe I could go on.

All great performers and contributors but for me I don't do "legends".

If it is, this place is going to be absolutely hilarious for a while isn’t it 😂

I do feel for Foxy & Linz though, they’ll have their work cut out. I’m guessing there’s going to be a few infractions kicking around.

Why do people confuse football with warfare? I don’t want a manager or players willing to die for kicking a ball about for my entertainment! What I would say is I do like to see players and managers who care, and whatever anyone thinks about Wilder, I think he has proven that. I’ve been watching Utd since 1974, but dont have total recall of the Harris years. I can say I enjoyed the 2016 -20 football more than any other seasons (possible exception 2003).
And if nothing else, the absolute hatred he inspires from the other lot absolutely nails the legendary status.
Would I want you in the trenches with me...? Errrr.....oops getting me metaphors mixed up ageean...

Without a doubt, he would go with my blessing and gratitude. No ill feeling regardless of the 'back door shuffle' (FWIW I think there are three sides to every story, the opposing sides and then the truth).

It's clear he cares deeply about the club, to a fault and perhaps it could ultimately be his undoing. He has lost that fearless mentality we had during his first stint and I don't think it's something that will come back, sometimes once the magic is gone it's gone unfortunately.
