Don’t often take an opposing view swizzler but I don’t think even CW could keep the magic up on a shoe string for more than one season. I’m of a mind we should go with a sqillionaire and let Wilder shop in Harrods.
Or would it need a new manager to shop there?
It comes down to interpretation, but here is how i see things
Bassett operated on a shoestring
Warnock operated on a shoestring
Wilder no longer operates on a shoestring, its debatable whether he ever has at United. Just because the players he's brought in have been low cost, it doesn't mean that he's brought in cheap players.
Norwood, McG, Fleck, JOC, Duffy, Stevens, Baldock, even Egan... all of these have been brought in for much less than the worth that they now have. However, they have comfortably operated at the level they were brought into and also the level above in some cases.
We will now see if these players, the players that we already had before Wilder (Billy, Freeman, Bash etc) can operate in the top division. We will also see if the top championship performers that he has signed, can also do the same. Lots of questions of course
However, my point was that we have just won £100million from promotion, we won't do a Fulham and spend all that in one season. So it leaves more money if we stay up and whatever we earn in subsequent seasons.
We won't spend £100m every season, we're bringing in younger players, we're making ourselves sustainable. So whilst Billionaires will bring in Billions, i don't think its something we need with the Premier League earnings.
