SYP let us play the cup tie as the pigs are at home on the same day. I don’t suppose for one minute they’ll leave things alone and let us both play at the same time like other cities can manage.

There’s a chance we’ll be on TV, I would have thought. Might be moved to Friday or Sunday

To be fair, it's common knowledge that Wednesday fans come up to London Road after their home games.

There'll be a good 12,000 fans or so to manage in total so SYP will have their hands full, and any date change is understandable.

I would imagine we will be moved to Sunday, more away fans are likely to travel from Luton for a game where there is a fair chance of an upset. And as we all know everyone wants to see the MASSIVE.

If SYP can't manage two games on the same day there's summut wrong wi 'um. Still f***ed off with dibble for Saturday and having to walk all way up Bramall Lane, Cherry Street and Shoreham Street to get to my car parked near Royal Standard. They'll be lucky if there's 20k fans between both games, no reason whatsoever not to get um both on on the Saturday.

My predictions that the live tv games will be chosen from this shortlist

Wolves v Liverpool
Manchester United v Reading (car crash tv)
Tranmere/Southport v Spurs
Solihull Moors/Blackpool v Arsenal
Woking v Watford
Derby v Southampton

The recent Scottish league cup semi finals were both played on the same day in the same city, one at Murrayfield (1330) and one at Hampden (1630).

I would imagine that doing similar in Sheffield would be a viable option with very low attendances expected, the cumulative attendance for the day would surely be less than what we got for Leeds.

Swiss, I know you work in Iraq, and may have forgot your Scottish geography, but Hamden and Murreyfield are in two different cities:):tumbleweed:

It's ok I'm with Swiss I didn't know that either. Murrayfields in Dundee :)

They stick loads of games on a Sunday for different tv scheduling (BBC extended highlights and final score !!) so I expect that’s where our game will end up. Non league team interest.

The original plan was even dafter. Both games were to be played on the same day at the same venue (Hampden, Glasgow). Aside from the fact that Aberdeen were in the later kick off and had the longest journey, all the clubs objected, the Scottish PFA objected and Strathclyde Police said it was stupid.

It is impossible to imagine how SYP would have reacted to 40,000 Gers, 40,000 Bhoys and another 25,000 each Dons and Hearts fans wandering around the city.

Reality edit.

I thought I was a reactionary old goat, only regurgitating hackneyed stereotypes, but I can see I have a lot to learn from Sean Thornton.

Some Scots do like tradittional crafts like hand knitting Fairisle jumpers, 'playing' the bagpipes, caber tossing and deep frying chocolate confectionary, don't you know!

Can't play on the same day cos SYP have only got one steel wall.

As any poor sod who exited from the John Street stand after the derby can confirm the chuffs have quite a number of steel walls and they're not afraid to use them.

And in fairness, our game against that lot will be as nothing compared to when the Barnet Posse ride into town. I'm expecting a ring of steel backed up with helicopters and riot police, imagine Paris but lively.

Exactly. Barnet are an unknown quantity to SYP and the CS will want his photo in the paper again soon, in a vis jacket, pretending he's a proper copper.

Let's be careful out there......

That ten minutes dragged.....

You've been sucking on your lead soldiers again haven't you Si?

I'd rather we played on the Friday night rather than the Sunday.

I'm sure not so long ago in the early FA Cup rounds that us and the Pigs played at home on the same day.

We did, but that’s before big girls blouse policing became the norm.

FA Cup 4th Round - 25th January 1986
Sheffield Wednesday 5 Orient 0
Sheffield United 0 Derby 1

Possibly last time clubs played at home on same day?

No need to tell me about it, my mate from Barnet who I mentioned in the Barnet thread will kick off big time if it doesn't work out the way they want. He may have lived in Bradway for more than 50 years and he may be 85 but you know what they say " You can take the man out of Barnet but you can't take Barnet out of the man ".

He'll smash lot up if it goes wrong and he's not on his own, they've got the WI coming up in a charabanc for this one, be afraid, be very afraid
