Rose Garden along with You Can Do Magic was the theme tune of the 70-71 season, there was no particular reason why, it was just that the DJ liked them so he played both records before every game.

It's impossible for Unitedites of a certain age not the think about the Currie and Woodward days whenever those records are played.

The only game I recall in 70-71 season where Rose Garden wasn't played was the 2-1 midweek defeat at home (our only home defeat that season) to Dull City on the same night the highlights of the first Ali-Frazier fight were televised.

Bert has many memories from that game, the Kop and the John St Terrace can never have been as packed beore or since that night. It was one mass of bodies jammed into the ground, no tickets, no nothing in those days you just turned up and fought your way in.

These modern student types in their plimsolls, wooly hats and Ali Bongo trousers wouldn't have lasted five minutes in those days.

Another one. Reminds me of the glorious day of the 17th November 1991.

Less fun was turning up at Ecclesfield School the next day, to get off the school bus, walk up the drive wearing my Blades shirt and getting half way up and chased straight back down by a gang of Wednesdayites,

Second half of the 2002/03 season

If it's promotion in 1990...then it has to be this...

I can remember it being played week after week as we battled with the Dirties for the 2nd Division championship.

Agreed, I'm not sure of the actual attendance figures but that other heady midweek fixture later in the season when we battered Cardiff City was of the same ilk. Days that will never be reproduced due to the money obsession of the Premiership.

Wasn't that the game where the ref had to get the teams in the middle of the pitch and warn them about the violence ? I was on John Street ,couldn't see a thing.

40,000 v. Hull and nearly 43,000 at the Cardiff game.

The crowd must have spread out more round the cricket side in the latter game, it was packed but not as bad as when Hull came and kicked their way to victory.

It was indeed a very violent game, Bert was on the Kop, John St side, he can well remember seeing thousands jammed in the terrace, many of them Hull fans.

'Is this our day in the sunshine' by Section 60 always reminds me of SUFC as well, I know they're Blades so I wonder if they wrote it with the Blades in mind.

:dj:

It was with Blades in mind all about Wembley play off with Burnley and the anticipation of is it our time? Our Day in the Sunshine

See a Section 60 Interview with plenty of Blades References http://www.sheffieldmusicscene.info/021/index.html pages 70-84

I wonder if Lyn Anderson will be along next to confirm she wrote Rose Garden with the Blades in mind!!

Cracking album by the way, I think in years to come 'Reputation' and 'Permanent' will remind me of taking my lad to the Lane for the first few times. Often have it on in the car as we drive to Sheffield.

And that Blade photo montage on You Tube along with those 2 songs is always worth a watch and listen if you need reminding what SUFC is all about and also reminds me of some happy days in Albion and Sheldon when they were open. Really sad to see what has happened to those 2 places.

I spent many a good time in The Albion until the following morning most times, its a shame those days are gone!

Thanks for the feedback about band and hope to see you at the Embassy in Feb
