Howard Kendall

Been reading a bit about Howard Kendall, the obituaries and a few different opinions and I've got to admit that it is been quite eye opening to find out a bit more about the man rather than the manager.

He was never that popular with me, mainly due to the unsuccessful 96/97 season and the acrimonious way he left the Blades for Everton, but looking at it again and revisiting that time I can see why maybe things didn't work out at the Lane, and why he was so keen to return to his first love Everton.

The other thing that has really come across and come across well about Howard Kendall is about how much of a decent bloke he actually was. A lot of stories about him responding to letter from supporters, being a decent and engaging human being whilst out and about meeting supporters, and being a bloke with no was generous and friendly in equal measure. It has really surprised me to see him spoken about in this way, as I had a misconception that he was a dour, miserable man when it appears quite the opposite was true. With his recent passing I have come to realise there was a lot more to Kendall than I actually realised, and I've come to mourn a proper football man, and a man who was associated (albeit breifly) with our club.

There's a mention for Busby and Heath on here but there's been quite a bit of TV coverage this week showing Mick Heaton. I think he was well respected in the coaching world. Presuming him and Kendall met up at Blackburn. Never quite made that number 3 shirt his own in his time with us.

A friend told me a story the other day about Howard Kendall. My friends dad bumped into Howard when he was abroad once and started chatting to him. He told him how he son was just getting into football and Howard asked for his address saying he would send his son some Everton gear . About a week later a parcel came at my friends house full of signed Everton photos, banners and shirts. This was just after he left United. Top man

Mick died in a car accident about 7 months before Kendall came to us. Had it not been for the accident, he would probably be back to the Lane as a coach under Kendall

Changing a style of play which the club has been associated with for years isn't easy and he did it. Very unlucky with injuries which probably cost us. Some great memories of HKs time. RIP
