Earl Barrett was a Spackman signing I believe and Des Hamilton was a Brucie bonus the season after.

Cahill, the Stockport cup game was 1st round 1980, 0-0 if I remember correctly, seemed to be Blades on all four sides of the ground that day. We won the replay in extra time at the Lane and made very heavy work of it, then it was Chessie in the next round. That top-hat Alan Birch scored a very late pen equaliser at the Lane for them, then surprise, surprise we lost the replay 1-0 at Saltergate, our 5th defeat in 6 games against Chessy in 1980!!!

If I remember right where we were stood was called the paddock, the view was pants cos you were sat low down and the view was of the players legs, unless I dreamt it :) it was along time ago ;)

We got into the play offs last day of the season with a loss at Stockport. Other things I remember about that day are Arsenal winning the league with Tony Adams scoring that one on one late on. Also it was Wilders second spell with us - he looked like an umpa lumpa - fake tan and overweight. He came on the pitch to celebrate afterwards. He wasnt popular at the time!

Man Utd won the title in 1997.

My mates a season ticket holder at Stockport County, i’ve seen them quite a few times, including against the Dingles and South Barnsley. We played them,in’the FA cup early 1980’s ? I went straight after working nights, without sleep, slept on the train all the way back.
Remember the cup game 0-0 at there place ,
Chaos at the game , trouble wise , all over town , the ground , everywhere , think we won 1-0 at the Lane
Our mini van got smashed up after the game

Yeah I think it was 0-0. Must have been about 1981/82

He certainly wasn't great in that 2nd spell. I was still at school and recall one of our teachers at the time spending half a business studies lesson moaning about how bad Thompson's signings had been. Think he signed Wilder, Jon Cullen and Shaun Derry.

I recall Wilder getting the run around away at Sunderland in the play off 2nd leg too .

That was the season that we won a grand total of 3 away league matches. Has any other side ever secured a play off place with so few away wins?
