How much 'luck' does a team need to be promoted?

If you can watch that clip and come to that conclusion then I think we're way past the point of no return. :)

Why? isnt a conclusion. It's a question. Do stop me when I get to the nonsense:
The keeper ran off like an idiot.
The ball was still in motion when he did.
He is a goalkeeper.
The clue is in the title.
As a goalkeeper, one's job is to keep the ball out of one's goal.
He left his goal when the ball was still in motion.
Thus the ball was not dead.
His responsibility remained to keep that ball out of his goal.
The referee did not move.
He stayed where he was to see what happened to that still-moving ball.
The clown/goalkeeper should have done exactly the same.
Instead, he ran away from his goal whilst a penalty-kick was still in progress.

Only one person guilty of nonsense there....

Only the last sentence is conclusion. It follows, however, an unassailable factual analysis of what happened.

I would hope any manager worth his salt would want to know why the goalkeeper was deserting his line with a penalty kick still in progress. That, albeit in odd circumstances, was precisely what he did. Had he stayed on his line until the ball was dead, he could have made an effortless save.

I'm not entirely convinced the factual analysis is unassailable, starting with the goalkeeper is an 'idiot' which seems to beg the question - or more colloquially establish a circular argument.

If you can maintain with a straight face and a steady heart that our trusty custodian should have stayed on his line as the ball disappeared into the night sky, just in case a technically possible but wildly implausible sequence of events unfolded, then perhaps such a, er, principled stance is to be admired.

I am left wondering though whether, in this Universe of Absolutes, the Ship of Theseus is the stuff of nightmares.

We're in this division because we were not good enough to stay in the one above. The same reason as we are not in the Premiership. Not sacking Warnock immediately after promotion, failing to strengthen when enjoying a 10 point cushion, appointing Robson, appointing SemiPro, appointing Quickfix....I could go on...

Losers blame luck: Winners take it on the chin and carry on winning.

The loss of Monty was a big blow as well
