How many more games?

The problem the club has had is McCabe and his cronies. They meddle too much. Constantly change the rules. We have money, we have no money. Wilson never knew when the rug was going to get pulled out from under him.

We only gave players like Porter new contracts cos we didn't know when or if we could sign replacements if they left.
Kitson, Robson, Higginarse etc were only signed as a last resort. Theres been no joined up thinking between board and management for years now.

I suspect half the players Weir brought in, he didn't really want to. Just knew we had to bring in somebody cos the squad is shit. And it's not getting any better, King is the worst example of this policy. I can't believe anybody at the club actually thought he was the right man to bring in, more a case of better than nothing. If we had money before the transfer window shut, why did we not buy a striker or 2? There is no sensible answer to that question, apart from we don't know what the hell we're doing as per usual.

It needs a fresh start. A strong passionate motivational manager, which Weir clearly isn't, who the board back and give clear outlines of what money we have or don't have. No last minute loan signings, cos we haven't signed anybody when we were supposed to be doing. No selling our players for the first pieces of silver offered. No finding of clapped out old farts like Kitson by the board. Just a clear leader, given the means to do his job properly.

So where are all of these other options then? Reality check here but we got turned down by at least two other managers - McCall and Robinson. Most on here wouldn't entertain the thought of a motivator like Warnock so to stick with a manager that likes a patience game we either stay with Weir and hope that he turns what he and his team are doing behind the scenes into results. Or we go for someone else of his style....

Weir and Carsley apparently asked for patience when they spoke in forums and yes he is judged on his results, but he's also changing a mentality of not only a team, but of an entire club and it's fans. It was always going to be a transition season. So a higher level of patience is required.

But lets sack him, his results and performances are poor and the strikers aren't scoring. I'm not arguing with the current state.

So we sack him now, we bring this new miracle working manager in and he brings in a few loanees, gets us to Xmas, then spends the princes money. Yet things don't improve. We're then 25 games into a season and no further forward. So lets sack him as well.

We've been down this road before and personally I'd like us to break from our sacking tradition. I'm no saying it'll work, but I also don't see how sacking him will bring back the good times

So despite no concrete evidence of success or potential you would leave him in place and you'd be happy for him to stay there even if we continue to the end of the season with the same form and less than 25 points? All because you don't want to sack another manager?

If you want to see a list of other options go to http://www.leaguemanagers.com/index.html and scroll through the available managers. I agree many there are useless but there are some good experienced ones available who might be willing to come to Bramall Lane given the new ownership arrangements and available cash. So don't tell me there are no other options.

That's got to be qualified. Leaving it until Christmas without an upturn in results would.be lunacy and see us relegated.

Not particularly. I think I quantified it last week, unless we were going 10-15 points adrift from safety then he’d be allowed to continue to work. Sure if we lose every game then it’s a possibility I might move early, but otherwise I’d still give him till Christmas.

I wouldn't think there is any experienced manager out there who couldn't get a result out of the players available and I would include down to conference level, but the crucial word is experience

I can only hope our Board aren't thinking like that. First of all, Weir is hopeless and his tactics & man management clearly don't work (the same crap week in, week out). Secondly, even Alex Ferguson would struggle to keep this team up if we were 4 or 5 points adrift, never mind 10-15.

So by your thinking it would be acceptable for Weir to still be in his job come mid-November when we are rooted in the bottom 4?

I didn't say it would be acceptable, I said he's be gone if we were 10 points (rooted) in the bottom 4 at Christmas.

I don't get where this claim that Weir is tasked with changing the entire ethos of the club is coming from. The only change has been from a passing side with a good defence and two up front to a passing side who leaks goals for fun and with one up front.

He isn't trying to change the old Wimbledon into Arsenal at their wonderful, passing peak.

His task isn't half as huge as some are making out. He was required to change a team that made the play-offs in both of the last two seasons (neither of which through hoofing it and one through playing some of the best pass and move football I've seen from a Blades side) into an attractive side to get promoted. He is failing miserably.

If Wilson had been able to replace Quinn and Williamson with Baxter and Cuvelier, he would have stood a much better chance of promotion. Unfortunately, he wasn't and had to rely on free transfers like Robson and untried cheapies like Flynn.

In my view it is clear to see that Weir does not have the ability to get this team of players (some of which should be stand-out players at this level) playing to anywhere near their potential.

Last season I expected us to struggle because we had a poor squad, this year, we have the same defence that was one of the best in the league last season, who now can't not concede at least a goal a game, a far better midfield and wingers and a forward line of pretty much equal ability.

This team should not be as low as we are. It isn't the players and for once, it isn't McCabe. It is the manager.

All aboard the Hess Express!

What's the better option though? Weir still has potential.

The trouble is his 'potential' is that he might keep us up

Is that our ambition level now?

I thought we had signed a gem and we had got it right at last, alas I was wrong
