I stand by my first comment in having to explain this.

Not quite following, here. I'm asking Boo Radley what he means by wanting to meet me at Forum Footie (apropos of nothing) and enquiring if it was some kind of threat.

Have you been on the Tixylix again?

And that's your problem. You cannot see that the statement about footie was an answer to something you said. If you believe it to be a threat, then you need to report him to admin.
As for your last bit, seen as we're slinging insults about (which you've done to just about everyone). I'll stick by my original assertion about your state of mind.
Feel free to come back with a new insult. It still wont change that opinion.

Well, cheers for your fascinating input.

I'll stick by my original statement that there are a load of mardy arses on here
missing the point by whining about dickheaded RS presenters rather than facing the seemingly inevitable playoff exit to a side once regarded as little more than footballing ballast. Don't let that stop your moral crusade, mind.

Have you been 'invited' to forum footy, BTW? Scary, innit?

*dead scared*

Just a quick thought and in particular reading the musings of 'potty mouth '....you don't actually think pommpey is a Blade do you?

I don't like the insults ..........but Pompey talks a lot of sense.

Thank you.

Now, probably we can get away from the piffling triviality of what RS has always been (a shower of shit collection of pig-loving cretins, waiting for days like these so they can recapture the Chrissie Waddle days of glory), away from the Barclays League table of Masssive Blades (alco way ahead there), people apparently offering others out in a game of five-a-side appropos of nothing and psych-tests by internet specialists and back on topic of our crumbling season. There are bigger issues at stake here, and they start this evening.

I have to say that Pommpey moaning about "mardy arses" is the most deliciously ironic thing on here since WB put me on ignore for being too argumentative

Not really, Darren. "Boo-hoo, the pigfans on RS are takin' the piss!" (when not so long ago, you'd have put cash on us going up) and our problematic run in to season is the true irony here, isn't it? It's hardly ironic bemoaning shit performances either, especially given our propensity to fuck things up when it matters. As is the case.

As said earlier, I'll be happy to come on here and apoligise with the words, "I WAS ABSOLUTELY WRONG" if United lift the playoff prize and follow the shit up into the Championship. And as for scanning my previous posts (Christ, I have a fan club now) you may find me suggesting that we don't really want to aspire to be in the playoffs because our record therein may doom us to years in the real wilderness. Or summat like that.

I recall when we lost those two games in early March you moaning that our season was all over, that it was definitely the play offs for us, United always fucked up etc etc. In fact your posts on this thread have a general air of mardiness about them - i.e. you didn't get what you want so you are going to have a good long moan about it.

Being mardy is not about whether you happened to be right or wrong, it's about the general attitude when things go wrong. On that basis I stick by the view that you do have a tendency to mardiness :)

Funny thing, that. We were (once again) five points clear before that, and with two games in hand. But I don't need to point that out to you. But teh advantage slipped, didn't it? Now, how is it being mardy pointing out that United always have the tendency to turn a distinct advantage into a humiliating disaster? Wednesday had sacked Megson by then and were gaining ground. We pissed in our chip bag vs Oldham. What do you expect people to think? 'Never mind. Wednesday will catch us anyway, and we'll end up in the playoffs'? Oh, hang on. That is what happened. Buggar! Forgive my moaning, Darren.

Okay. We differ on definition. My take is that for a team with the highest wage bill in our league by a stretch, and with a set advantage for promotion to boot, my expectations are somewhat high. Again, forgive me if I expect Sheffield United to capitalise on that and drive home what I expect to be the team's dominance and superiority and above all else, not let the shower of arseholes up the city catch and overhaul us. Silly me. Hardly being mardy though, is it?

Bloody hell. Semantics now. Can we get back to tonight's issue?

Indeed.

We're all disappointed at the way things turned out this season and we're all disappointed at United's history of under achievement. You tend to express yourself more vociferously and emotively about these things and come across as, yes, rather mardy about it. Which is why you having a go at people for being mardy reminds me of that Oscar Wilde phrase about Caliban seeing his face in the glass.

Anyway, this sort of thing all adds to the gaiety of nations and, if we do mess up the play offs, I will look forward to a long emotive rant from you about it :)

Well, I can't say I'm as skilled on romatic poets and louche laybouts as you. The only Oscar Wilde I recall was some lanky twerp who played for the swine in the 70s.

Why limit that to just me? There are plenty who rightly chip in when things are not going too well for United. You come across as perhaps more satisfied with the outcome of our season than maybe I do. One could be philosophical about it, but then again one has been so after countless disappointments, with greater gravity on reasoning than 'double hernias', 'jailed strikers' and 'plain bad luck'. As a more knowledgable United follower than I will ever be, you must admit that my scathing assessment of the Stevenage game at home wasn't far from the truth, and for all the arguments against (much of which centred on the 'added value' of one James Beattie) that was bourne out in the very next game when for no real reason, he two-foots one of their players in front of the ref thereby further hobbling our already piss-weak strike force. But then I am wrong to criticise, because either it will undermine the players confidence (like they read this board anyway) or because I am not a huuuuge Blade and don't own a ST, buy a brick or own next years away strip.

I'm about as huge a Blade as you are in that I have only managed two games this season (one the wonderful Oldham game), but I have found as I have got older (I am 45 now) I view things in a rather more zen fashion and, when I am disappointed (as indeed I am) don't feel the need to go on about it at great length on here. I am afraid that you do come across as perhaps the worse offender in the sackcloth and ashes stakes when things go wrong.

I have to say, given your background, I do find your attitude an unexpected one. I think you are a bit older than me and have spent virtually all of your adult life in the military. I would have thought that would have put a bit of perspective on the perennial under acheivement of a football team.

Hmm. At risk of telling you to do one, I'll retract from this discussion. My attitude to football and my football team is entirely my own and has sod all to do with you. Military or not, age, background, whatever, it is of no consequence and really juxtaposed against what we should be talking about here - football - being scolded mildy regarding my attitude and the way I address things by you is a tad rich. As much as you know about Sheffield United Darren, you're wonderfully wide of the mark regarding me. Move on, eh?

He's going to be impossible if we lose tonight :(
Seems like he's turned into a cross between Big Mary and Len de Goey.......when they were at their most argumentative.

Sorry if you felt you were being scolded. That's not what I meant. Of course you are entitled to whatever view you like to have, but I find it interesting to discuss how you, I or anyone else arrived at our particular views of the wonderful world of SUFC. I appreciate that not everyone likes that kind of introspection and as you don't want to discuss it we won't.

I am broadly optimistic about the play offs, which is interesting as my general life attitude is one of cosmic pessimism :)

Darren - I want us to win. So do we all. Fuck losing. I want us to beat Stevenage tonight comfortably by two goals, dominate the game and make them come back to BDTBL knowing they've already shit it. Then I want us to sit back, pick them off and finish with a flourish - 3-0 winners. I want us to go to Wembley and waltz out onto that pitch - for once - and actually fucking win something. In a week or so time, I want to be looking forward - deservedly - to Championship football next season, new signings, bigger crowds, better football, two games against Wednesday and possibly a shot at the title.

Given who we are, and given our situation and inability to sustain momentum since March, how optimistic am I that we can achieve that? I won't deny we have had some ace games this season. But ... and there is always a but with Sheffield United, we have trouble turning up when it matters. The last time I think we pulled it out of the bag was Forest at home, possibly Liverpool or Cov at home before that. I want the team to find it in themselves to match that and even better it. THAT is what matters, not some bell-ends on the radio.

We finished the season with 90 points which, as many have said countless times, would have got us promoted in just about every season known to man. Yes, we failed to get more points than our lovely neighbours which ultimately cost us but we had no control over their final 13 games in which they did what they had to do and let's be fair, they did it brilliantly. Of course we dropped points when we shouldn't have but we also picked up points along the way when we maybe didn't deserve them.

90 points in a season is not a fuck up.

No, once you remove realistic "noise" from results, there's been only one fuck-up this season, in more than one way. And it was, for once, out of the control of SUFC.

We fucked up last season and that was entirely of our own making. That hasn't been the case this season.

After the 2 game fuck up in early March, our record from thereon was P12 W7 D4 L1 pts 25 - i.e. more than 2 points a game which is usually comfortable automatic promotion form. United didn't fuck up this time, it was Wednesday's absolutely phenomenal form that did for us.
