Trevor Hockeys car was a Triumph Vitesse with green velvet covering, it was stocked so much by fans he stopped parking it close to the lane TC had a Cortina 1600 E.

Reece was only a small guy but probably the best header of a ball we have had . Was told he had it rough has he got older and had his legs amputated before he died some years ago .
a leg petcharlie I think, but devastating all the same for the lad, a real favourite player of mine.

The 1070-71 and 1971-72 were the greatest Sheffield United teams I have had the pleasure of watching from the KOP. Legendary is how I describe that fantastic team Tony Currie was the best-ever player and Alan Woodward was not far behind him. Hockey wins the ball with a tackle like a drop stamp fair and legal back then. passes the ball to Currie who runs ten yards and without looking up chips the ball over the defenders Woodward receives the ball in his stride. runs at a fast pace looks up smashes the ball past the keeper from 30 yards Goal. You will never see a better corner-taker free-kick and penalty taker like Alan Woodward. He was deadly very accurate. scored a lot of goals. Tony Currie was a playmaker who could send defenders the wrong way and score great goals. Not forgetting Len Badger, Ted Hemsley, John Flynn, Eddie Colquhoun, Trever Hockey, Geoff Salmons, Bill Deardon, and Gil Reece with very good goalkeepers Alan Hodgkinson and John Hope.
Unfortunately Hope never recovered after the 0-5 thrashing by West Ham in the League Cup.

He has scored direct from a corner 4 times. McFaul in September 1969, Shilton in September 1971, Glazier in November 1971 and Keelan in January 1973
I can account for Newcastle, Leicester and Norwich, but Glazier? Who did he play for Coventry?

I saw one of Woody’s first appearances at Bramall Lane as a 17 year old. I thought he was rubbish.
This says everything about my ability to judge footballers.
Occasionally TC would take a corner, chipped to the edge of the area where Woody would hammer it direct into the net with the ball never touching the ground. Against West Ham one year he scored one like that with his right foot and later in the match did the same with his left foot but it was blocked on the line.

Woody for me is the best player I've ever seen play for us and I include TC in that.
I actually cried when he left us I was 15.
The times you saw him 25/30 yards out unleash a shot and you'd know it was in when it left his boot.
Absolute brilliant player.

Yes. Below photo is Woody's goal direct from a corner against Bill Glazier of Coventry although Glazier saved a penalty by Woody late in the game but shortly afterwards Woody made amends by firing in a second goal.

The late Brian Clough said of him, " if Alan Woodward had played for a London , Manchester or Merseyside club, he would have been in the England squad." He once described the Currie , Woodward corner routine as been undefendable.

Scored a cracker from a corner at Leicester past Shiltoñ I think.
Was on MOD guessing 71/72 Check it out👍

Yes, September 1971

Me and my other 3 regular away day mates were in pole position to watch that , being on terrace on the same side about 20 yards in from the corner flag .

Alan Woodward was and still is the finest striker of a football I ever saw in a Blades shirt and well up there with many of the best from any club , including famous internationals .

Woody was my fav as a kid. Had the full kit with the No 7 sewn on the back. Every time I played football used to hit it as hard as I could and scream Woodward!! at the same time…Nobody enjoyed playing with me as I used to just blast it all the time.
