Not true.
My Grandad's brother won three caps for England in 1959.
And he never played above the second tier.
Coincidentally, he was a winger as well.
Eddie Holliday?
Of course its true just because a 2nd tier winger won 3 caps in 59 doesnt make it not true
Ive given you 3 x examples of United players that didnt play for England that should have
You mentioned Coutts and Duffy and good players for United. Never played in the top flight
Carlton Palmer played for England and he was shite
Woodward was England class. I would hazzard a guess Woodward was miles better than your Grandads brother
You never saw him play As Ive said you know Fuck All about the quality of United players in the 60s and 70s

I saw Holliday play for Wednesday a couple of times.Thank you, I didn't know that.
It's sketchy at the best of times to find records for that period.

He was a touchline hugger, lots of pace, knocked it past the full back and ran. Beyond that he didn't appear to have any other tricks. Lots of wingers were like that back in the day.
Woody was a level above him in my opinion but as stated in other posts, at international level wingers were redundant after '66.
Miles better, a proper Rolls Royce of a playerI've not seen him live as for obvious reasons but how good was he against the likes of deane..agana etc.
Never watched him play live or Tony currie..would have liked toMiles better, a proper Rolls Royce of a player
55 first division games for Wendy from 1962 to 1965Thank you, I didn't know that.

The best wingers in the 1960s were Bobby Charlton and Peter Thompson. Ramsey successfully switched Charlton to central midfield, he left Thompson out of the 1966 and 1970 World Cup squads. He stuck to the 4-3-3 formation. He did like Woody as a player and picked him twice for the Football League X1 matches but for full England matches he rarely picked a winger in his squads.I was simply asking why he never played for England.

4-3-3Good knowledge mate.
What kind of formation did England play in those days?
