Billy sharp is currently 60th in the list of all time league scorers and of the list of goalscorers that have 200 or over league goals he is the only 1 currently still playing , I think top 50 is realistic

And how high would Brian Clough have been if he hadn't got injured? his goals per game was ludicrous !!

Yes , most people are aware of Clough’s phenomenal success as a manager but completely unaware of his remarkable goal scoring record before his career was ended at a relatively young age by injury .

I remember going to watch us play Middlesbrough in 1958 when I was in my first job . As I left the office , an old bloke who sat opposite me said “ 1-0 to them , Cloughie will score “ and he was spot on even though , as is the case with many great strikers , he did very little else .

Harry Johnson in 11th. Phenomenal goal scorer.

I was completely unaware! Hes got the best ratio out of the lot as well, nearly a goal a game! Every days a school day

At 254 even our Keith Edwards will take some catching.
Be nice to overtake Ian Wright and Ian Rush though.

The all time leading scorer Arthur Rowley also has a Blades connection, as manager between John Harris first and second spells. He was a better goal scorer than manager.

Until I just read it, I didn’t know he and Jack Rowley were brothers and both of them are on the list, a unique achievement and unlikely ever to be repeated

It's a phenomenal achievement for Billy.

For those that say shearer wasn't world class striker though, his goals were all in the top division I believe and in the modern era - nobody will come close for a long long time (I don't think Kane will do it).

Kanes got a very good chance. He's 104 behind Shearers PL record at 28yo. If he gets 20 a season until he's 32/33 he's right on track.
If he goes to Man City he could quite easily get a couple of 30goal seasons.

He also doesn't rely on pace so his age shouldn't affect him

I’ve heard he’s scared of heights so maybe not to the top of Blackpool Tower as it is very high

What era do you consider Jimmy Greaves played in?

All depends where he is playing for me, could quite easily score 10+ this season for us. Say he then drops down a division or two next season to play out the rest of his career, back to donny or somewhere like Harrogate he’s easily scoring 20 goals in league one or two provided he has service.

Hes just a legend, wouldn’t want him to leave us even when he retires from footbal, needs to be afford a role in the academy or our first team. Inspiration to others. Sherringham is the one to beat in the 2000s (overlap)

Jordan Rhodes is on 196 aged 31, that's 37 behind Billy. Over the past five years (playing for Wednesday and a season at Norwich he averaged just under 5 league goals per season. Don't think he will catch Billy.

Think he needs 6 to be all time Championship top scorer above charlie Austin correct me if I'm wrong.

That table must be out of date seeing as Billy's goal on Saturday was announced as his 250th career goal.

Either that or somebody's stattos are rubbish.

Edit: so that goal last night would put him level with Brian Clough, Steve Bull and Ivor Allchurch in 41st place

The table lists league goals only, and is only correct to the start of the season. Hence Sharp is now tied with Frank Worthington after his goal on Saturday.

I believe Harry Johnson is the only player that is the all-time top league goalscorer for two separate clubs, ourselves and Mansfield.

I'm sure Billy will fancy himself to get to 250 league goals.

I think 50 years ago probably counts as “history”. It’s certainly not modern. Sorry. My mate picked up a book in Waterstones last week whilst waiting for his daughter to buy something. It was called “Historic Sheffield” or something of that nature and he was expecting pictures of Victorian factories etc. It was pictures of Sheffield in the 80s….

It's league goals only not career goals

So cup goals don't count?

Do penalties count?
No funnily enough cup goals don't count in a table of highest league goalscorers penalties however do if scored in the league , similarly wins in the cup don't count in the league which is why we have 1 point and not 7

I don't care I'd he beats it or not. Shearer was world class' sheer outstanding. Kane or anyone know are a long way off

Harry Kane is very much World Class. He's just held back by the club he plays for.

Shearer to aswell. If he'd signed for Man U instead of Newcastle, imagine how many he'd have scored.
