How did C. Evans play yesterday?

I don't think he was told he must sign Evans...however, as I stated above, Evan's return was on the cards long before Wilder came in.
I don't see who else but McCabe could be involved given the history.

The deal would have been put to Wilder, he's assessed it and given it the ok. ie: ultimately it was my decision.

P.S- Put i this way, I don't think Evans was top of Wilder's shopping list at the end of last season...before the season had ended in fact.

"The deal would have been put to Wilder..." is this what you mean by McCabe being involved? If this is the case it's perfectly plausible I agree, for me intimating McCabe was "involved" means it was more than just putting the deal to Wilder.

We won't know whether he was "Top" of Wilders shopping list or not If we assume he wasn't, buying him anyway was surely going to impact the budget available to purchase who may have been "Top". On that basis I can't see how McCabe would've been involved.

Wilder was in the strongest position a United manager has been in since, probably, Warnock got us to the PL. Given that and what he said in the interview do you think if he didn't want Evans he would be here?

I think most hope he will come good but not sure he will get the game time he needs to sharpen his activity. Clearly he does it in practice, but right now none of our strikers are 'on form.' Though we create chances we continue to miss most.

I'd guess that when Wilder saw the costs* he thought it a good gamble on the lad.
(*I've heard he's on next to nowt)

I'd suggest we don't create nearly enough chances, whoever plays up front.

You're saying it was totally Wilders decision then?

(So have I, but with decent bonuses for goals etc)

Let's give McCabe the last word...

The club's co-chairmen, Kevin McCabe and Jim Phipps, said they had not yet made a decision about whether to re-employ Evans.

"An article in The Sun today that Sheffield United has offered a contract to former player Ched Evans is false and damaging to the club," they said in a joint statement. "We have made a statement on this matter previously and the lack of credibility and substance from this latest media report does not warrant any expansion from previous comments apart from noting that we are continuing to deliberate on any long-term decision about Ched Evans."

Anybody else hoping a Clarke/Evans front two might make an appearance tomorrow night??
Really hope Leon is back and I know that him n Ched are best mates, so I'd love to see them play together.
Il be sat in the Westfield Corner hoping!

Did the Chairman or manager bring in Ched?

It’s seem obvious that McCabe was keen to bring him back
But we know Wilder is not a yes man.
We know that Evans has potential to be a good striker in this division.
The only reason Wilder would refuse to bring in Ched is if he thought it would upset the team spirit.
Loads of stories saying Ched is very popular with his colleagues in the dressing room, so his presence isn’t causing any harm yet.

Wilder had the final say on the decision when offered Ched and Wilder agreed to take him.
Currently I put Ched in the same boat as Calan Lavery, someone with potential that has generally under achieved in their careers.
Both were relatively low cost risks with a small chance of paying off.

I’m still keeping an open mind on Ched, think the Summer when he has had a full pre-season is make or break.
If he doesn’t shine next season then he’s probably best suited to league 1 or even league 2.

Well in response to the original question.

I was at Portman Road on Saturday and I thought Ched did okay and on a other day would have got us a penalty to win us a tight game.

I accept others may see it differently but there does seem to be a few on here who happily exaggerate their points to write off a player who is trying to get back to a degree of fitness for the first time in donkeys. He will get better. Whether that is enough remains to be seen but bearing in mind we aren't paying him big wages we should be able to give him a bit longer.

Cheds performance mirrored United on Saturday. Not great but not poor. Some with an agenda may disagree of course.

Sorry, I'm not sure what you want me to take from the quoted article that was 18 months before Wilder became manager?

I'm also pretty sure Phipps had resigned before Wilder became Manager, so not sure what contribution he would've made?

You can the bit highlighted:

“apart from noting that we are continuing to deliberate on any long-term decision about Ched Evans."

To mean this wasn’t solely Wilders decision

You can also take the bit about this being a joint statement to mean McCabe’s opinion is the only one that is relevant here.

You really want me to take that article as McCabe having involvement over and above putting the deal to Wilder, even though the article is 18 months before Wilder became manager, 30 months before Evans was signed and one of the parties involved was no longer here?

Just wanting to make sure thats what you're meaning.

Listened to most of the live commentary on Radio Sheffield.

At the end of the match Keith Edwards said Evans played OK.
Said you can see he still has decent quality but he’s lost half a yard of pace and sharpness.
Said he’s not quite up to standard but not far off and needs more matches before he makes a proper judgement.

Are you suggesting that Keith Edwards Knows more than some on here do - rubbish.

I bet McCabe made him say that 100 %.

Or maybe Chris Wilder, depending on who you believe signed him.

Or was it the Prince maybe.

..take it how you like.

You're arguing over the wording of what I said, rather than the point I was making. If you feel I wasn't making my point well enough than that is fair enough but the thing you seem to have taken such offence at it the use of the word '100%'. Have you missed the bit where I accepted that wasn't what Wilder said? I'm sure you can find a way of telling me that isn't what I actually meant, like you know that better than I do.

If you want to carry on being pedantic then knock yourself out, I wouldn't want to ruin your fun.

Can I just clarify that I don't think Wilder was even looking in Cheds direction until Kev had a chat with him. So where Wilder made the final decision the initiation of the process wasn't started by him.

He will be nothing more than a bit part player for the blades. He will never score more than 10 goals in a season for us and will be gone within the next year ans a half

Ched Evans
P 13
Minutes 461 (5 games 11 minutes)
76 minutes v Leicester
Evan's is due a goal but then again Clarke hasn't scored in 8 appearances (664 minutes) so maybe he's finished too.

Where was Ched last night? Also Freeman nowhere to be seen after a few games on the bench.

Remember not so long ago Billy couldn't get in the team, and everyone was writing him off.Horses for courses, there was room on the bench for one striker and Wilder went with the Don. Maybe he thought Clayton would be better suited to Burton. I was glad Wilson got a start, but still think Ched may come good with decent service, which he didn't get v Ipswich.

IMO, Like the boss has already said, He's got a role to play and I believe that's true. Maybe it's just going to be a one off and just maybe, that one off is him scoring the winner in the Play off final !!!!!!! Then he can go, debt repaid
