I don't see why every player coming back from injury gets the benefit of the doubt but with ched we write his entire career off.
See what hes like after pre seasonHe's not our saviour this season, but he looked alright. Needs minutes, was caught on his heels a couple of times but had a couple of good moments and he looked physically strong. I would put him about level with Don in the pecking order, but in my opinion he played better than Don has recently.
Perhaps with some match time he'll prove his worth.
See what hes like after pre season
We’ve already seen what he’s like after a pre-season, he had one 8 months ago! Why will the next one be different?
I thought he did Ok in game with basically zero service. in.
And an operation not long after pre season so back to square 1.
And what will the excuse be next year? Oh he’s not starting enough games? Not the right partner? Stripes on the shirt not the correct width?
All I hear is excuses and see no evidence he is anywhere close to good enough for the championship. As I have said before, if he was released at the end of the year, what level do you think he would get to? Certainly wouldn’t be anywhere near the championship that’s for sure.
Put it this way, I hope Clarke is back soon.
Why is it when someone comes in and plays one game without scoring they get written off by some people straight away?
It’s pathetic, give the bloke a chance to prove himself either way.
If he gets the chance of a sustained run of games then that would surely be a better gauge of performance levels and where he’s at, not one game?

Remember how he was when he first arrived at the Lane ?
That’s because he’s played more than the one game so we know what he can do which was exactly part of my point.Brooksy didnt score either but not seen anyone writing him off ------yet.
We really do allow irrelevant history and sentimentality to overcome common sense sometimes and for every player in the squad like this it means no space or budget for another who might have done better.
There’s no blinkers from me, I just like to give people a chance before fully writing them off, Coutts took two seasons to get up to speed apparently so let’s atleast give him a chance of more than one or two sporadic performances. He did fuck all, just like he's done every other game this season, barring one match in August where he scored against a team a level below us. Wilder's transfer activity has been spot on apart from him, and it's a huge, uncharacteristic bollock drop to give him the contract he's been given. For anyone to compare him to Sharp, Clarke, Donaldson or even Wilson is just daft. Blinkers are well and truly on with the We Love Ched crowd.
There won't be an excuse. We will see what he can offer fully fit and then be able to decide how shite he is. Rather than deciding he's crap after 1 game.
It's unfair to say he had a pre-season so therefore he should be fully fit when he started the season waiting for an operation and then had a couple of months out once he had the treatement.
I am not saying he is the answer, but he was no worse than anyone else yesterday. It was a bad performance allround.

Some very good points and I agree we should use Donaldson more, especially away from home, from the start of games not just cameos. We can’t justify him playing on the basis that he was ‘no worse than anyone else’. That wouldn’t wash with any other player, but ofcourse Ched’s special dispensation with some means that can be seen as a positive.
He hasn’t scored a goal all season, in 9 appearances. Has he even scored for the u23s?
He’s 29 years of age.
He needs game time but once everyone is fit, he won’t be given game time.
If we want to improve the squad, the first place we need to recruit is up front, this pushing him further down the order next season.
Why is he not fully fit now? He’s had his operation, he is training at full pelt every day, so how is he not fit? And if he’s not fully fit: 1) why is he playing? 2) when will we know he is fully fit? How long do we need to wait?
Again, this is important, he hasn’t scored all season. A striker. And he hasn’t scored. If this was any other player, he would 100% be written off. We shouldn’t even be entertaining the idea of him being integral to our plans next season.
So many uncertainties and no positives yet other than blind optimism. The reason it frustrates me so much is the countless opportunities fans are willing to give him, and not others.
Let’s switch it round. Why doesn’t Donaldson deserve a long run in the team to get up to speed? Why is he discarded after 2 starts, yet Ched needs more?
He’s treated different to the rest and that’s one thing that gets my goat.
So you agree to give him a chance then? He's had plenty of time. He also had plenty at Chesterfield. He did nowt there, he's done nowt here. He is likely to continue doing nowt.
So you agree to give him a chance then?![]()
