Saw the above photo 18 years ago in the Mail. It was at the Eton v Harrow cricket match in 1937. Interesting that the posh lad died a year later but the scruffy kids were still living at the time the article was written. See more below
Vikings is apparently written by his dad, Michael Hirst......Both his sisters Georgia and Maude seem like a clever family .

Oh, I can just imagine the scintillating conversations he's going to have with his new teammates in the dressing room. Innit fam.

He did...Grappler, you've got Nelson wrong way round - thats like flying the Union Jack upside down in my book. Tantamount to plotting against the Queen, off with your head.
By the way, its just a guess but presumably Raitch Carter shared the boy's first name?
To the tune of ta ra ra boom de aye:
We got Horatio
From public school you know
He'll score a goalio
Oh! Valde te amo
Sounds like he is putting a very expensive education and a possible career as an academic to one side, and chase his dream as a professional footballer.
Good luck to the kid i say.
Without a surname like Hirst, he's destined to be fat, overrated and an alcoholic.
I know, fancy being called a ridiculous name like Hirst.
I feel sorry for whoever has to make a song up with his name in it
UTB
And according to IMDB he was nominated for a BAFTA for Elizabeth. Talented chap!
Wonder if he's interested in writing a sequel to When Saturday Comes?![]()
I can see the “follow follow follow” song making a return…..
Follow follow follow
Sheff United’s the team to follow
With Couttsy and Sharpy
And Fleck and Mark Duffy
And the good old chap horatio
Or the old “do what we want” tune.
Horatio Hirst
Horatio Hirst
His sisters are Vikings
Horatio Hirst
We've got a young chap called Horatio
We think that for us it's a first
But the sad fuckin scumbags from Hillsborough
Had a fat cunting wanker called Hirst.
Bit near the knuckle for some maybe, but at least it rhymes.
