Depends who you are really. If I had £10k in my bank I'd say my position is 'healthy'.
I know, my point is nobody knows the budget, the only thing said is by mccabe who said "healthy", just a light hearted comment not to be taken too seriously

Suggestions for a low budget:

I like the Valencia option. I'd take the money for Baldock personally.

Browne ( leader, strong character, has presence) and Robinson ( pace/ goals/ movement) from Preston, say £18m for the pair.

Hogan (pace/ workrate/ gets across front of defenders/ goals perhaps even at this level?) for £3m - worth a punt.

Quick Harvey Barnes type youngster on loan. ( No.10 or front strike partner). Not sure Dowell is quick enough. Maupay £20m

Arter or Puncheon type.

Henderson ( loan)/ Adrian/ Marshall

Kelly/ Jenkinson/ Tomori (loan)/ Keogh!/ Cranie/Jags

Out: Stearman, Coutts, Evans, Wright, Washington, Bryan, Lundstram.

As a 'Cup half Empty' kind of person generally it should come as little surprise that regarding my beloved Blades & the Board in particular, my cup is ALWAYS less than 10% full. There has always been a lack of any kind of mediocre ambition & any fleeting deviation from this cause has resulted in the rug being pulled at the first sign of failure.
I remember in 1975 after finishing 6th in Division one playing football in a style that has never been matched until the last 2 years. This should have been the beginning of a Golden period & a platform to kick on. That summer our 'Marquee' signing was Chris Guthrie & the Blades were relegated the following season. Chris Guthrie was never heard of again & the decline of SUFC eventually ended in Division 4. That year was a Watershed moment where serious ambition could have seen the Blades establish themselves as a serious football Club.

Our only two subsequent promotions to the Top flight have been followed by an equally unambitious reaction from an always prudent & overcautious lack of investment in players. There will be some that support the 'cautious' approach by reeling off a host of clubs that have pushed the boat out but since fallen on hard times. I appreciate this argument but what the vast majority of these clubs have are memories of winning Silverware. We haven't won a Major trophy for almost 100 years. Also most clubs that suffer from Ambitious Boards usually resurrect themselves and many come back even stronger.

I want to believe that this year will be different. We have the best Manager & team for many a year. Season tickets have for the first time in history Sold Out & the Club is in a perfect position to move forward into the BIG TIME like never before.

I really hope I am wrong & this post is a load of Bo77ocks but my gut is telling me the people in charge are going to once again fail us fans by once again failing to show any kind of ambition.

Excellent post from a new member - Welcome!

I may be alone in my thinking here, but i find it quite sad that grown ups are getting almost suicidal because a football club may only have a budget of 20 million quid, and the worst that could happen is that said football club would only be able to spend 1 season in the Premiership as a result of this 😢
Whatever the manager has to spend on overhauling the squad this season, i will just be happy to continue my support of my football club. Managers and Owners come and go, some are good, some are bad, some are lucky, some are unlucky, but the one constant through all of it is the club, regardless of position in the league, or financial power. We support through thick and thin (predominantly thin i grant you), so just take the good times for what they are, GOOD TIMES......... UTMFB!!!

In my case it's an anxiety to keep the manager in post for years to come. Give him the tools and watch the 'thick times' roll.

& all's good & lovely in the bright & beautiful world of wonderful life.

I'm a grown up & those who know me will vouch for the fact that i've witnessed & lived through many personal & professional 'grown up' experiences that would turn many a stomach. Grown up experiences that have been outside my control that have taken me to some very dark places & beyond. Throughout my love for the Blades has been unconditional & it appears this passion renders me unbecoming of an adult. A passion that can either make or break a weekend, a passion that can cause pain for good lengths of time, such as being pipped to promotion by the 'Dark side' after Ched was sent down. Truth be known, that season hurt for a long long time.
I'm so sorry if after 50 years of watching my beloved SUFC it may come across as 'un adultlike' to be so very concerned that a rare golden opportunity may be lost by the usual ineffective & unambitious board.

I'll apologise because obviously the criteria for being a grown up is obviously to sit & clap & be happy no matter what happens on the football pitch.

Jolly good lads ... well done on relegation... doesn't matter ... I'm A GROWN UP YOU KNOW!!!!!!

Surely there are more important things to be anxious about? I am seriously concerned by how anxious some people are getting about something way beyond their control. Enjoy the ride, and chill a little.....

Good to know.... but seriously, what is all this worrying going to achieve? I understand and share your passion for our club, but at the end of the day what will be will be. I learned a long time ago not to lose sleep over things i have no control over. This is where i am coming from.... Life has dealt me lot's of shit over the last 50 or so years, so the fact that SUFC may possibly be relegated through lack of investment, or, heaven forbid, go out of business because of poor decisions made by the club's owners, will not cause me such hurt. Life is a bag of shit, but sometimes you find a kernel of sweetcorn in it...

I don't get this desire to 'show ambition' by spending money that is not there, that's foolishness not ambition (just run through the numbers and see what you think our transfer pot could be). Just because our turnover has increased by a factor of 6 it's not changing the profit/loss line, let's do it the right way and not end up like Bolton.

£20m is no where near enough for us to survive. And if that’s all wilder has the club is a joke, whoever is the owner. There would be no excuse for it being that low other than the owners pocketing the money
Why do different posters keep bringing this figure up !
It's not come from any official source so it's just speculation probably started by a pig fan loving the chance to stir the shit.

Because that’s the title of the thread so was just commenting on it

Looking increasingly like the £20m figure touted is bollocks, if any of the papers are correct.
A £4m bid for Freeman, £15m for Mcburnie, Hendos return.
Anymore and that's way over.

If promotion to the Prem was suposed to be worth top side of 100 million, how on earth could fans suggest the club would spend only 20 million on players?? A budget of 50 million is pretty modest, leaving a substantial bit in reserve....... no?

No. Our wage bill will be eating into the remainder.

Excellent post from a new member - Welcome!
Don't know about the excellent post Woody ,yes factually very correct but very negative finish.
This is a fresh chance with a manager who shows ambition alongside plenty of nous.
Yes I have lived like you Woody ! through all these false dawns.
We have a great chance again
hopefully we wont throw it away again.
As I said we have a great manager ( our best ever ? ) who is totally wired in to the modern game ,who says it how it is and will continue to progress us forward.
McCabe knows all this and hope he wins the case as I feel Wilder would fall out with the prince.
Let's cast away any doubts and be positive like Wilder!,great excitement lies ahead .
Keep Wilder for another 5 years and where will he take us with the backing of the fans and owners ?

Are you saying the difference in our wage costs between season 2018/19 & 2019/20 will be £50,000,000 ?!
Huddersfield had the lowest wage bill last season I think at just over £60,000,000
I suspect if we stay up we’ll be paying bonuses so it probably won’t be far off that. My estimate is around £40,000,000 more than last season.

I'm sure the club would be delighted to pay bonuses for staying up.
