I'd agree with these
Our wage bill this season is very unlikely to exceed what we could cover with parachute payments should be be relegated.
And presumably salaries can be arranged to take relegation into account?
because I plus others have been banging on about 'division related wages' being in contracts, I'm sure this is the case with the players already, based on the wages jumping when we moved from tier 3 to tier 2 without the squad all renegotiating. And it must work both ways ie going down as well as up.

If we were to sign either Carroll or Sturridge we know they are both made of china so a minimum wage plus good bonuses is the only way to go.

United as a club have done the hard miles, why would we abandon everything we've learnt and the club been based on for the last 3 years just because we are looking at bigger numbers? (And as I think we've all realised, it looks like you have to spend every penny of those bigger numbers too.)

That depends on the player, his agent and what other clubs are offering.

There is a figure we’ll receive if we are relegated, in parachute payments. If our wages and running expenses, the things we would be obliged to pay irrespective of what division we are in, are no greater than the figure we would receive in parachute payments plus our other income should we get relegated, then we are not at risk. That is a general principle.

Players won't take a salary cut if we go down, not good ones anyway. But a sell on clause if we go down can be inserted, as long as it's reasonable to us, not just the player.
However, I don't like release clauses, you end up with players that don't give a toss because they'll be ok regardless

Wilder may end up paying for a £12m player but he won’t be paying them £70k a week.
And if he’s buying a player for £12m he’ll be proven at championship level so if we do go down, he’d be playing at a level he can play at, irrespective of how good he was at PL level.

If we go down the Parachute Payments are 50% of what we would have received if we'd stayed up. That's Season 1 and it's 40% Season 2. There's more after that if we stay up more than the first year. So presumably ( opinion not fact) Huddersfield will get around £48m this coming season.

I guess so unless there's a better offer elsewhere when it's supply and demand at the end of the day. Good signings will be in demand and dictate terms more.

There is always the chance that a good signing will command a profit anyway if we were under pressure to sell him should we be relegated. E.g. Mitrovic, Mooy.

With the intensity of how we play players made of china are the last thing we should be thinking about.

Coincidentally, I googled ‘parachute payments 2019’ and one of the first links was regarding Huddersfield.

According to this, £42m. But it’s a badly written article and doesn’t show the working out (in fact it contradicts itself).

it'll be the only way we can afford a player of that style and ability level; it takes up a place in the 25 and the cost comes when they play.
Let me put it this way; Carroll playing god knows how few games or laying out 3m on Madine who couldn't get in the match day squad of relegated Cardiff. Ideally neither but any other player will really get the costs mounting up.

As they will be if they don't lose any salary after relegation surely?

Oh yes they will, based on the large number of PL contracts I’ve seen.
Don't be so sure feller. Topplayersleave speaks with such authority and assertion that I'm convinced that he knows loads of Premier players personally, and has seen dozens of contracts!
You have haven't you TPL? Don't let me down now!

Well we'll see wont we

Why am I getting a feeling in the pit of my stomach that the Board of Directors are going to fuck everything up?? It’s ingrained in their psyche and will never change. I know they put money into the club and have probably stopped us going tits up in the past, but don’t waste the opportunity we have now. The best Manager we’ve ever had, fans United. It’s the easiest thing in the world to spend other people’s money, but for what Chris Wilder has done he should be given £40 million minimum. I hope I’m wrong but it is Sheffield United we’re talking about here, we don’t do things the easy way.

if you pay championship/league one money you get championship/league one players!

Though as our team have played themselves out of the championship maybe we are paying them more than we think. ;)

There are teams in the championship who think that paying PL money to players will get them promoted.

Yet, they are still there ............

The reason why, if say 5 rumours on our budget are posted and 4 are positive and 1 is negative, the negative one sticks is worthy of investigation.

From the mouths of the horses that matter, we've had "healthy", "generous", "somewhere between Cardiff and Fulham" - all decent, from the arseholes of the mules that we shouldn't give a toss about we've had "£20 million" which is what Norwich have said and we're not Norwich as far as I know. Somehow though it has stuck to this site like the proverbial airfix swing wing mechanism sticks to the fuselage, and will similarly not be budged.

8 How are Hull City and Newcastle United equipped to deal with relegation financially?
Steve Bruce has said that Hull’s player contracts agree a “huge reduction” in salary if they fall into the Championship, with most players’ wages dropping 40% or 50%. That does help to compensate for the drop, and is seen as prudent. Newcastle have not said whether they have drop clauses in their high-earning player contracts, but John Carver has said backroom staff could lose their jobs, which suggests relegation would be a severe financial blow

Or......
You pay well over the odds in fees and wages for a group of players who can only be arsed to turn up when a new manager arrives - so you finish in mid table with a huge gap between you and a club that plays proper football and deserves to piss promotion by six points.
What a load of shit indeed
Do you honestly think the team we have now could stay up in this league?

Billy 34 never scored a Premier League Goal.
McGoldrick always one bad injury away from the end of his career.
Hogan (If we keep him) Barely done anything at Championship Level
Madine (If we keep him) Never been a Premier League Player

If we so not add 5/6 decent signings to our core squad we will be down by April

Do you think you have the players to mount a promotion push, under a 442 hoof manager?

ST - Ollie McBurnie £12m
ST - Jay Rodriguez £5m
CAM - Mason Mount loan
CM - Leroy Fer free
RWB - Antonio Valencia
LWB - Eric Durm
LCB - Jonathan Panzo loan (Monaco)/Yoann Barbet free
RCB - Carl Jenkinson free
GK - Dean Henderson loan

Not overly convinced with the RCB but we would have £3m left over for the little flags that say champions on them and a shit ton of Peroni after we win the league 🤪

The 'hypothetical £20m' could become £32m or more if Brooks and Adams get big moves. Even as much as £38m if Baldock goes to Celtic.

All well and good. But we shouldn't rely on that. Whh not give Wilder £38m and keep the sell-ons for another day in court?
