If we keep hold of him, I'm not convinced that his footballing cocktail of red cards, injuries and missed chances would necessarily benefit us next season. This time next year he could say cheerio for free, having eaten a significant chunk of the wage bill in the meantime. Given what we paid for him, it looks bad for him to leave on a free, but given the reality of where we are and what length his contract is, it's not disastrous - and should theoretically free up wages that we can reallocate to new signings.

We should never have paid the amount we paid for him. Blackwell's decision to ditch Hulse and replace him with Henderson ranks as one of the poorest decisions of his spell with us in my opinion. That's not looking at it with hindsight - I said it was foolish at the time.

He looked like a player that had returned early from a long injury, and could have done with the benefit of a pre-season behind him.

Yes but the report says personal terms have still to be agreed and it's just speculation that he'll be released on a free. A massive difference from it being a done deal, assuming there's even a shred of truth in the first place.
