They'll be there or thereabouts if they hold on to their front 3.
Their front 3 were the difference ultimately aided by the pace which they went forward with. As per the last few years….. everything we do seems ponderous & slow compared to virtually every other side we face & it all stems from a midfield that is a poor link from back to front & also gets totally bypassed when teams come at us with pace.

Worrying performance that. Brewster... Fkin hell... Will someone please take him off our hands? I don't care how much we spaffed on the fee and his huge wages, we need to get shut.

Need to bounce back against Millwall now otherwise I can see how this is going to go..

Our midfield must get overrun 3 out of 5 games played. Our defence and forwards are fine, unfortunately the midfield have too many days where they just don't function. I'm hoping the lad Doyle, Arblaster, Norwood, Cool Boy, and maybe someone else through the door improves us in this dept this season. Our midfield has been stale for 2 years now.

Imagine watching that game and picking Brewster, who came on in the 68th minute, as the main problem.

That there Dennis feller is badically a cheat code at this level. None of our lit could get near him. So much pace and great ball control.
That made all the difference for me. We haven't got that anywhere in our team and can't afford to have it. Sadly.

Berge didn't look happy from start to finish, no sign of him in any kit release media. I'm one of those who think the guy is an absolute Rolls Royce and would love to see him give us one more season of top effort to get us up... but unfortunately he doesn't wear the red and white stripes of Sheffield united beyond the end of this window for me...
He was avoiding injury , in fact he avoided the whole second half

Yep that's a strange one. I've thought before that K's T is a closet pig on the wind up. More subtle than most previous Pigs on here but quite consistent with his total negativity about anything United. Each to their own I suppose and they did get a draw on Saturday in front of 70k at the sty.

My goodness, I'm surrounded by utter fucknuts. Absolute intellectual amoebas, even by this club's standards!! 🤣🤣🤣

Just got back, staying in Watford. Didn’t think there was much in it. We looked like a team, they looked like a pacey side who haven’t yet had time to gel. Never expected us to score, and if Fleck had dealt with the ball on the breakaway it would have finished 0-0. Not the usual capitulation we get away from home early in the season. Dont understand where the players didn’t look bothered observations come from.
Same. Just got back to the hotel after a few beers with some Watford fans. It was a 50-50 game until we fucked up, they broke and we conceded a stupid goal that looked offside when they showed it on the big screen. We looked shell shocked or 10 minutes or so but then came back into it. The lads worked hard, played well at times but lost by one goal. That’s football.

Indeed. We know Egan has no pace, we know Clark has no pace, and fuck knows what the plan was on the left. Would have taken the end result at half seven tonight

What do you mean ?
I recall Mester Wilder telling us he would recruit pace power & athleticism.
Looking at Watford's attack , we must have missed out.

I thought 2023 my bad but he'll be sold for less than £20m no doubt about it
We know exactly how much he'll go for - undisclosed!

He'll end up leaving for something like 11m plus 4m in add-ons plus some other clauses described as 'substantial' which in fact will never be realised and a sell on clause which may get us 200k in the future.

Hate to be negative but pommpey called this about 14 months back.

Another fine recruitment example to add to Mousse, Freezy, Oli Mac, Burley, Robbo and more.

Some over the top reactions here. We’ve played 1 game. And let’s be honest it’s possibly the hardest first game of season we could have had. They deserved the 3 points but we had a few good chances and could easly have got at least a draw. Let’s not all go absolutely fucking weird and start kicking off at em already ffs

You get what I mean surely to fuck? If I thought you’d take it literally as De Brunye would be average I’d have used someone else more suitable to make my point but I honestly thought people were bright enough to work out what I was saying. Berge is too good for the players in the midfield around him, they bring him down to their level, stick him in a midfield with top quality players and he will be top quality player.
Yes I got what u was saying and I agree with the above

I like Hecky a lot. However his post match interview was pretty bad in explaining the match as he saw it! His excuses for the goal, and if that’s total commitment from his players then he doesn’t know them that well. Some of them were half hearted performances. A big worry if he cannot see that! Some of the old guard needed to be moved on this summer.

It's called letting off steam. And worrying times ahead if things don't change. Last year it took a third of the season. Hopefully things will get better. On this showing....😤
It got better because we introduced an exceptional talent at the end of September ( at this level)

I’ve never been a Hecky fan and some of his team selections and tactics and responding to how our opponents played last season was bizarre

Last night was the average for last season any good intense flowing football you can count on one hand 5 games when they played to their potential last season

It’s as if the players ( not the manager) decide when they are going to play.

And Injuries ffs look at Heckys management career high proportions of injuries at every club

And look at this a complete preseason for Hecky preparation and we start the season with…. Injuries
And no exceptional talent whose gone home

Having said that happy to look a complete fool if we are sat in the top three in November

I also thought Berge was steady tonight, didn't just give the ball away cheaply, and had some nice touches. I'm not claiming that he was at a £22m player in the Championship level, but he was more than OK. Its the other usual suspects that once again were piss poor who we should be looking at and pointing fingers at if we must. Thought Berge was a bright spot even if he didn't break into much of a sweat - but then again no one else did for Utd tonight so why single Berge out? Its basically because of the money we spent on him rather than his actual performance sometimes, I feel.
Give Ndiaye some credit pal he put the rest of them to shame

Brewster was on the pitch 15 minutes and what was he served by his team mates fucking nothing - the same as the previous 75 minutes

Let's have some context, we lost by a single goal, away to the second favourites to win the league. A team who were in the Premier League last season with a front three who are far too good for this level, I'll be very surprised if they haven't sold one or two of them come the end of the window.

Creatively we were poor, no denying that, but for one silly error we restricted them to very few good chances. A very makeshift defence, with 3 players missing largely coped really well.

Norwood was defensively better, but Watford gave him no time on the ball and he struggled to distribute it, his set pieces were really poor though. Flecks performance was pretty poor, but it wasn't through any lack of effort, getting himself a silly early booking didn't help either..
Berge showed a few moments and did look to progress the ball more than anyone other than Ndaiye, who was absolutely excellent.

We'll play worse sides than Watford, probably about 19 of em. We'll also have the options to play a better balanced 11.

Let's not get too carried away with a single defeat.

Impressive. That post is up there with some of the more stupid things I’ve ever read.

Yes I agree. Ndiaye did well. Was my MOTM for Utd, mainly because he put himself about and battled unlike most of the others. It looked like it mattered to him whilst a lot of his teammates seemed to just go the match like it was a training session or bounce pre season friendly. He was let down (as were the fans) last night. I can take Utd losing, I've seen it often enough after watching us since the 70s, but there is a way to win and a way to lose i.e go down fighting and not just meekly accept defeat. Watford coasted that game. Where was the urgency with 15 mins to go? Where was the players and balls put in their box when we needed an equaliser? We played it like it was over 2 legs.

Never said he was the main problem last night but my other thoughts have already been covered, want me to repeat what other posters have already said?

And yes, your constant "he's a pig" crap is trange. Strange because I've been able to prove stuff with previous posts (ie, my initial support of Wilder and Slav) what happens... no comment, you go quiet and then you crank up the insults months later.

I've honestly no idea what the fuck you are talking about which is quite OK with me as a lot of your posts seem to be very negative about United and what was the point of coming on and having a pop at Brewster who was only on the pitch 15 mins. Last night's performance and you come on here and have a pop at Brewster? Really what angle are you coming at with that one? As another poster implied that is very odd. 'I go quiet...' I didn't know I had to respond to you directly mi lickle sausage. You mean bugger all to me.

Anyway must dash. I've got an appointment to go on to Pork Talk and pretend I'm a Wendy fan so that I can be right witty and try and wind em all up you see. I call myself 'Hirstys Belly' and it definitely definitely fools em.
