Heckingbottom

Will not get another team to the prem with his negative football. Not many squads will or do have the quality that we had especially a player like illiman so I do not see him winning another promotion anytime soon.
How much of his first 18 months did you watch?

It was far from negative for plenty of games.

I listened, not much of note and included Simon Jordan slagging off Wilder again for one interview he did three years ago. I'd like to see what that loud mouth would say if he was in Wilder's shoes with everything falling apart around him and the relationship with the prince at breaking point.

Like Hecky though, wish him all the best, I'm sure he'll do well again somewhere.

He was and is well respected by other managers within the game for the way he deals with and looks after young players, people like Pep were more than happy to lend him their young stars knowing they would not get thrown under a bus in a post match presser if they had a poor game.

Sounded very eager to get back in management "after a much needed break" and said he's aiming to get a Championship team into the Premier League. Did mention he doesn't want to move from Sheffield at the moment (not sure if that has anything to do on his driving ban) with a mention of his family enjoying it here.
That certainly sounds like a come-get-me plea to a certain fish merchant across the city.

In an ideal world, would have him back in charge of the U23. But I am sure he will be on the managerial roundabout again soon, after what he achieved with us.

He only took the u23 job as his career was on the slide. A promotion probably gets him another managers job or two until he would need to step down to u23 level again

He rode his luck at the Dingles. Got found out at Weeds and Hibs. Rode his luck with us and got found out.
I'd say that that's a very limited view of a manage who was really rather important in our recent history, and did a tremendous job IMO. Probably shielding more bullshit than we'll ever fully know.

He’s one of the very few managers in our history who have lead us to promotion to the top flight. He did that with practically zero budget for permanent transfers, a training ground that’s not fit for purpose, awful injuries (he should shoulder partial blame), and Cookie Monster from sesemi street leading our scouting and recruitment.

He did an amazing job. And conducted himself with a huge amount of dignity considering the crap he had to deal with. I’m not even sure he got ‘found out’ this year. I don’t necessarily argue with his sacking but he was dealt a horribly shite hand.

Would be very happy to have him back as a DoF in a year or two with a young promising, modern manager.

DoF…. Have you seen the signings he has left us with.

He went down to the championship with a dream team squad. He’s left us with zero players and a squad that’s arguably mid table championship at best, unfit and all out of contract.

But, his fashion decisions left plenty to be desired.

Do you honestly think he made those signings? He was desperate for players to come through the door. He basically admitted he wanted to keep Stevens, Sharp etc. because we had no one else. I think last summer was absolutely criminal. But I don’t think he takes the blame. Hamer is probably the only one he shortlisted to improve us.

Wanted to keep Sharp and Stevens.

This is who you would want as your DoF. Football is all about opinions but personally wanting to keep both for a PL drive wouldn’t have you down as a future DoF.

He’s a good coach, we have given him a huge career boost and hopefully he can use it well and progress a career. But he would be one of the worst DoF I’ve ever seen.

Not critical of Hecki directly just managers get sacked go on gardeners leave for whatever time it takes to recover from the sacking.Recovery done and back in harness with a bank balance swelled during there recovery period ! Ready for the latest adventure before it goes tits up and back to square one.Good life if you have the mental strength to take the lows with the highs

Hecky provided a steadying hand at the tiller (twice) after the mess we had got ourselves in, and for that I will always be appreciative of him and his time at the club. Comes across as a decent family man and all round good bloke too. Likeable. He also had a lot of shit chucked his way last season where he did a very good job in keeping us driving on to promotion despite the club seemingly trying it's best to derail him. These are the positives.

The negatives, he seemed devoid of tactical in game acumen and was a bit of a one trick pony in basically we tried to keep it tight at the back and then give the ball to Ndiaye for some match winning magic to happen. Generally speaking it worked. But when the Marseille maestro disappeared over the hill and he was given a small amount of money last summer, he was a busted flush. The signings (Hamer except) were all bloody terrible, he was unable to get the defence/midfield playing as a solid unit, the forwards were starved of any sort of service (constantly) and his in game tactics were abysmal with no ideas on how to change anything around. His injury record wherever he goes is also truly staggering which suggests it's not always down to just bad luck.

I will always be grateful for his work last season (and prior to that) at United, but this season showed him to be a fairly inadequate manager and the money he did have available was nearly all spent on poor players not up to the job. An average fan on the kop could have been given the same money and had a better hit rate on the signings in the summer (I also partly blame United World and Paul Mitchell for this too).

If there is one thing the signings made in the summer tell me ( and the fact he gave contracts to Fleck and Norwood and wanted to keep Stevens etc) it is that he wouldn't make a very good DoF unless he had the right people under him identifying players for him which kind of negates part of the job narrative for that role. I like the man but I don't want him anywhere near a DoF role at SUFC. If he was appointed as one it would be because the Prince still likes him personally rather than him being the best potential candidate for the job role. Glad he was here, glad he's moved on. I wish Hecky well in his future endeavours.

Don't rate him but don't hate him.
Had alot of luck with the squad he was left with.
Someone told me watch hecky in interviews he's always itching / scratching his head and its so true it was every interview
Decent bloke but not man-management
I would hate to go in a sheffield-derby v pigs with him in charge he reminds me of Bryan Robson who didn't understand the nature of the fixture.

I think some need to put some respect on Heckingbottom's name.

He took us from lower midtable to a penalty shoot-out away from the play-off final in his first season. Then promotion and an FA Cup semi-final the season after, against a backdrop of god knows what behind the scenes. Spent money on one player (Anel) in that time. Developed Ndiaye. Morgan Gibbs-White has a lot to thank him for too.

He gets a pass from me for this season. Even Pep Guardiola would look stupid if he had the crown jewels sold behind his back and had to replace them by shopping at Costcutter.

Did a vastly underrated job imo.

Turned round a sinking ship in his first season

Kept us on course amid unpaid wages rumours and under the threat of admin and points deductions

He wasn’t given any money to sign anyone permanently.

Gave young lads a chance

Was fighting with both hands behind his back with his laces tied together before this season given the catestrophic way we handled promotion.

Not many that would have achieved more in the circumstances
