Rumour from Mad.

I know from Jamie Hoyland's twitter he is now at Shirecliffe coaching.

Why has the club said nothing ? Jamie's been here a week, very, very poor communication from the club.

Jamie Hoyland has been due a couple of weeks now in order to try and achieve academy status 2 a requisite number of full time coaches are needed, I understand that even with this addition we have no where near enough full time staff or other full time staff.
The academy relies very heavily on part-time coaches to whom they pay peanuts (no different from many acadamies) who actually do what they do for the love of the game and have all the same coaching badges as full timers at the club both inside and outside of the academy. Some cost cutting exercise has meant these part-timers no longer a free bacon butty and a cup of tea after coaching etc on a Sat morning but have been asked to pay £2.00. This resulted in food been thrown away as they will not pay and whoever decided on this measure has hammered the goodwill that these dedicated part-timers give.
I suspect that Pembo is pretty pissed off with what is happening following him turning down the Crawley job and has offers on then the table from other acadamies who are not as short-sighted.

Interesting, I wasn't aware that they needed to fill further posts to comply.

Why do you think the club hasn't mentioned Jamie returning ?

The bacon butty issue seems absolutely ridiculous

nothing to see here ( rumour from bladesmad ) MOVE ON

I would assume because they don't announce every single incoming and outgoing when non-playing staff are concerned.

There have been many changes in the last few years alone that weren't announced.

I would say that is unusual when it's an ex player that played 90 odd Premier League games for the club and his dad played over 200 games for the club.

I thought we were a "Family Club" ? Does this not extend to ex-players ?

Is it just me that expects the club to comment on these things ?

I'm not saying they shouldn't... just that it's not far out of the ordinary in the "conspiracy" stakes ;)

I know and I don't subscribe to conspiracy theories but with social media these days, how hard would it have been to put something out on Twitter that Jamie has returned as an Academy coach. I reckon they could do that by putting in about a minute's worth of effort. This isn't a contentious statement surely.

I don't expect contentious information to be released but as a paying customer of SUFC I do expect to hear about things like this.

I will shut up now, no replies needed

Oh and by the way, would have been better to stay quiet than this:

sufc.co.uk said:
Officials at Sheffield United are aware of the speculation with regards the future employment of Director of Academy Coaching, John Pemberton.

Members of United's Board are in consultation regarding this matter and will comment further after due deliberation.

and from the Star:

James Shield said:
JOHN Pemberton, Sheffield United’s director of academy coaching, is leaving Bramall Lane, writes James Shield.

Pemberton , who also represented the South Yorkshire club as a player, is believed to have accepted an offer to join Nottingham Forest in an unspecified capacity.

The Star understands that Pemberton, who led United’s under-18’s to the final of the FA Youth Cup last year tendered his resignation Friday evening.

Officials, including academy chief John Stephenson, are expected to discuss the key appointment early next week.

Pemberton worked at Forest before returning to Bramall Lane and enjoyed a brief spell in charge of the Midlands outfit.

Really bad news this. Could this be related to Hoyland coming in?

Forest must approach the club first unless Pembo has resigned ?

Given what Ghandi has said above, I am guessing Pembo is saying if we want to be a tier two academy we can't carry on without filling coaching roles and with removing bacon rolls.

It's one thing to fall in line with FFP rules, it's another to say the Academy is important and then not resource it properly.

More than meets the eye on this.

I don't have a problem with the club statement, there is obviously something going on. It's the second time we've had a Pembo "will he won't he" in the last month or so. Time to sort it out.

Oh looks like it's too late given Shield's article

Merged threads.

Must also point out, it's not just Pembo who made our youngsters what they are.

It's in the process of being sorted out at the moment...

He's tendered his resignation.

It's also why I cringed at the "loyalty" press release.

They are all direct Pembo quotes, why on earth would he say those things if he wasn't happy ? What the hell has happened in the last 5 weeks ?

This is really disappointing, not because Pembo is irreplaceable but because it does indicate the cuts are affecting the one area of the club which should have sustained investment, not cost cutting.

That's not a dig at Jamie, as Ghandi says he was lined up a while ago (wonder why he didn't start a long time ago then.............?), if anything he has suffered because of this issue.

Wow didn't expect to call it and it happen so soon.

Right man initally at the right time, now I can say I'm gutted.

Is Hodges will clinging to Hughes apron strings?

Hmm, Glyn joined QPR 7 weeks ago .......... are you thinking he would come to the Lane ?

And did you mean to type you are gutted or you are not gutted ?

Pembo isn't the be all and end all though is he? Yes its a loss but we had an acadamy before him and it will continue after

When the last story broke about him leaving for Crawley, I asked someone connected who told that he wasn't and that Pembo was actually trying to get to Forest, which sort of ties in with Foxy's surprise about his comments on loyalty!

I have been told that despite his popularity on these boards, that perhaps that is not mirrored at the club (academy) I was also told that his man mangement and handling of the young kids leaves lets say a little to be desired.

Finally and this might be complete bollox, he was asked to take a pay cut following our relegation and flatly refused (but that's his perogative)

On a personal note, I'm sure he's done some good things at the academy, but the success of the lads last year in the FA Youth Cup was not solely down to Pembo. A lot of the foundational good work must have been laid before his prominance.

For me, if he wants to leave a sinking ship and f'k off where the grass is greener, then goodbye and good riddance. I feel the same way as I do about Lee Williamson

I want to see people at the club that want to be at the club. All the Billy Big Bollox's can go f'k themselves

Great post, agree with the sentiments, but one thing. There isnt anyone at the club who wouldn't go for more money. Or any other club for that matter.

Except Cresswell, he claims to have turned down bigger money to stay with us, he loves the club.

Oh and Kitson, just wants to play football for a winning team, turned down bigger money elsewhere.

But apart from that, then I agree ;)

If Pembo goes, so be it. He's replaceable.

But if United are making damaging cuts in the academy, and if the Pembo style isn't continued, then we are wasting one of the best resources we have. Time will tell.

  • Firstly James Shield who broke the story now says he isn't sure.
  • Secondly the Academy have been actively seeking other coaches (Tony Philiskirk was mentioned to me) so Jamie Hoyland coming in has no bearing.
  • Finally we will only find out what happens when Pembo himself desides what to do. At the moment he is chuffed that so many have been promoted this year. However whenever someone is successful others covet their attributes. If they are not on the same restrictions regarding wages then the tempation is there.
