I suggested this a while back and was widely slated but as more people seem to be coming round to and suggesting the idea I thought I'd bring it up again. Seeing as he so often bombs forward brilliantly and the fact that central midfield could be seen as a week spot I think Harry could do well there. He'd give cover allowing someone like Scougall to attack a lot as well as being able to contribute going forward himself, much like City's Toure. I know people say he's not mobile enough but I think on a few occasions this season he's proven he is.

I think he could, we wont know unless we try. He's good in the air, can score goals, tackle and pass, his biggest problem is lack of pace tho.

He did play as a holding midfielder when he first came into the U18 set up.

I think he has the attributes to play in that defensive midfield role, but in the long term we should concentrate on his development at centre half.

The only parallel I can see here is that they're both big lads. One's like shit off a stick, the other like shit off a blanket.

Harry's getting better and better where he is, is still young and is prone to the odd mistake. I hope he continues to improve and becomes a long-time hero. He'll never be the quickest, but he's good on the ball, uses it intelligently and looks to be getting better positionally - hope we can match his progress.

Reminds me a bit of Tri Dellas and he could do it.

He's trained as a centre half, had international recognition as a centre half and is one of our top performers as a centre half. Logic dictates surely we should play him in centre midfield.

Up until about a month ago, any minor mistake of his was being jeered / booed and the usual suspects were on here saying how he was L1 standard at best.

Yaya Toure is about 50 times quicker than Maguire, therefore he gets away with any mistakes he makes because he has the pace to get back. Maguire is a good championship centre back we just hype him up so much because he is from Sheffield and young. I'm not saying I don't rate Maguire because I genuinely do, but maybe not as highly as some other Blades. We have heard plenty of rumours that big teams want him but nothing has ever come of any, he has been scouted by the big teams but no offers.

Harry can bomb forward, he can lollop back, what he can't do is turn or stop or change direction in less than a week.

Cracking centre half, deceptive with his pace, but can't turn.

Reads the game well, good in the air, good with his feet, but can't think quickly enough

Doesn't "reading the game well" mean he doesn't have to think that quickly?

I'd sooner leave him where he is for now.
No. Reading the game well means he's often in the right positions... But he's then slow to react inches there

Due to his size and build he is never going to be described as athletic, but he is not as slow as he appears to be. Against Bradford he had a straight 40 yard sprint for the ball against Aaron McLean and got there first and whilst McLean may have been crap, if nowt else he can run.

In my opinion Maguire is a fantastic centre half and over a season by far our most reliable player and too big an asset to move into midfield. I would be gutted if he left and I think it is possibly only his unconventional build that has put the 'bigger' teams off. What's more, he clearly loves the club and that is extremely refreshing in the mercenary world of modern football.

Too slow and ponderous. There was a time when I wondered about this option but now I have gone off it.

At 21 I didn't see that in Dellas either to be fair.
Dellas is a lot better player playing for a team using the sweeper system. I think that it would suit Harry too but in this division the opposition would be happy to play for a draw against us and frustrate us in not being able to create chances. If we do get in the Premiership eventually then playing the sweeper system can frustrate our opponents and we would be happy in the middle of the table

I wasn't actually saying we should play him in midfield as like others have said he's doing well at centre back, I only meant that it could be a possibility and another string to his bow. The Yaya Toure thing was mainly drawn from his forward runs rather than his Ivorian features. Despite what some people have said I think he could definitely play a holding role, like in Weir's preferred 4-2-3-1 or maybe in a 2 with Baxter or Scougall giving them a free role as Harry sits deep.
