For that to happen Boro would have to be happy to sell because it's very unlikely Arsenal would break the bank for him, and I don't think Boro will want to sell at all with him being a homegrown player who they rate very highly.

What this possible interest could suggest though is that he is a genuine top talent who should be getting more game time here and could be a key player in the second half of the season. I hope we don't waste him while he's here.

In fairness DCL was just that

He was but he went for relatively little money to a lesser club. When Arsenal pick up this sort of talent they're exceptional - Walcott and whatshisface from Southampton came from this league.

Chapman looks like a talent, but not comparable to previous Arsenal grabs. Anyway, I stand to be made a fool of. :)

Completely agree... my first point stands, it was in the Mirror then reported on HITC... neither famed for their track record of accuracy

Chapman is a talent and a game changer. We will have a number of games this season where we play 4-4-2 or even 4-3-3 and he has his chance on the wing, or he could even play in the hole behind the strikers if Duffy's form dips or he needs a rest.

Half decent English lad, helps you meet your home grown quota, and if you really actually, ever, possibly, unexpectedly needed to call on him when your thousands upon thousands of foreign first teamers fall ill/get injured/don't get a birthday cake, then he might do an OK job.

Ergo, he's worth millions.

He'd be in my starting 11 every week from what I've seen this season so far!

One of my few games attended, I thought Chapman's space awareness was exceptional, like other good players I've seen, he saw angles that seem invisible to others, he exploited the gaps made available (admittedly by a poor side), and it should be noted, like every other player wearing the United shirt, he had no idea just how poor the opposition would be, so he had to work to gain his rewards, just as Fleck, Coutts, and Duffy had to. Regardless of Orient's poverty of imagination, I found this an enjoyable afternoon's work, and the players showed what they're capable of, which says much for their desire to work hard.

The thing with Chapman is... who do you drop?

Drop Done and play him upfront?
Drop Duffy and play him behind the strikers?
Try him at either wingback position?

I think he's got to wait till someone drops form, no matter what he does. Brilliant yesterday though.

Done has broken his jaw, remember. We may not need to drop anybody to accommodate him.

Scougs currently has the shirt alongside Billy, rightly so. Pity Chapman is away for Chezzy as I think giving him 20-30 mins would've been ideal for him. But it's a long season and lots of chances for him

It might not be a long season for him though. He might be recalled in January if he isn't playing enough or someone tempts Boro to sell. Scouts will have watched him yesterday so his performance could also be looked on as a bit of a negative.

Bearing in mind his performance yesterday, him now settling in and the obvious talent and potential he has, I think we should be looking to start him regularly in the run up to January to maximise our chances of keeping him, because as I said as soon as we signed him, he'll get better as the season goes on and could be a real big player for us towards the business end. I think he now warrants a start regardless of those considerations anyway.

Agree with this. Think he could have a Connor Coady type season where he finishes strong as a much better player than when he started. Hopefully he doesn't do quite enough before January to be snatched from us then gets on a great run from February onwards.

As it is on the box maybe it isnt such a bad thing that he isnt available for that game. If had played and had a blinder, the interest in him might have become a little higher from a few with more resource than we currently have. Lets keep him under the radar and see if we can cook up a permanent deal for him in Jan.

From Boro's perspective they will look at more than just one game and they will also have looked At Wilder, Knill, SUFC as a club and the development set up before they agreed to send him our way. If he has a bright future then they will want all aspects of his development to be considered.

He's doing himself no harm and has been patient, as well as working hard, so has shown the right attitude

It's a risk that they may recall him, but he's probably better staying put for the season and let him get settled, see him in and out of the first team and of course develop with England too

Many thought Adam Armstrong would be recalled last January, and he was banging them in regularly. I don't think we should be too worried. He's with us for the season.

The difference is that Adam Armstrong was starting regularly, if I was in Boro's shoes I'd be seriously considering finding Chapman a new club if January if he didn't start to feature more soon.

He's 18 - I think they'd be equally worried if we gave him 90 minutes twice a week for a prolonged spell.

And whilst he's rightly flavour of the month for his hat trick, he's got a long way to go before Boro will put him in their first team. I'm sure he'll be here all season.

He's only made 2 starts, both being in the cups, in the league he has come off the bench 6 times.

I agree Boro won't be expecting an 18 year old to be starting every match, but 2 starts and 6 sub appearances out of 20 matches isn't very good. I'm sure they would be looking for more first team action otherwise why bother loaning him out?

If Middleborough were going to recall him I don't think they would of allowed us to play him in the cup.

I doubt being cup tied would be enough to put off a League One club from signing him in January.

We shouldn't play him just to keep Boro happy, but if we hardly play him between now and January, it wouldn't be a surprise to see him being recalled. Player go on loan to play, not to sit on the bench.

Boro would just want to keep their options open

On his way back, whenever that may be according to tomorrows Star headline and which poses the question: does he remain on loan with us despite his injury and even tho he's back at Boro?

I'd like him back, but I'd rather give Brooks a few run outs first.
Scored again for the under 23s. To say he's not an out and out striker that must be a few for the season.
