Good question, I suppose it depends on how long before he is likely to start training again and/or whether Boro helped us out by giving us a break from the loan until he was ready to come back.
Hopefully common sense prevailed here, Boro won't be skint for a few grand per week (my guess at what we might be roughly paying from his wages) and might have been happy to pick up the full wage again for a set amount of time. After all, the other option is we just end the loan completely and they end up paying it for the rest of the season anyway.

I think he was just sent back but his loan is still active. Wilder said he was hoping to have him back. A big boost I think and hopefully means the winger vacancy is filled and we spend it elsewhere

Be great to have him back. He's a top player and solves the winger issue. No need for Riley. Spend it on Bogle or Evans.

How's it work in these cases, or is each deal individual?

If you commit to paying for argument's sake, half a player's wages for 6 months, are you still lumbered paying that amount if he gets injured playing for you?

Depends on the terms of the contract but usually yes. It's the same as if he was your own player. You don't stop paying your own players wages when they get injured. Clubs can insure against this kind of thing though - a bit like when your holiday is cancelled for some reason beyond your control - you have a claim.

It seems this season more than most we've seen 'season-long loans' have to be reconfirmed in the mid-season transfer window, when previously these would only be talked about if recalled/terminated early. I wonder whether with the removal of emergency loans we have now got a system where loans are more often half-season long with the view to being extended.

In the case of Chapman, he is clearly when fit in March going to be left in a situation where he won't be able to play first-team football – unless something is arranged now. We could presumably just stick to the original agreement, but given we don't know what state he will be in when he returns, it's not without risk. It would make more sense to arrange a new loan for the remainer of the season where we pay a tiny fraction of his wages – protecting us if he doesn't return to fitness. The alternative of cancelling doesn't benefit either Middlesbrough or Chapman in terms of his development, so I think we have a decent negotiating position.

Shame, think the lad would have played a part in the push...

haven't SEEN that since the late 1970s! Amazing how one picture/record can immediately put you back in the moment. Nice work Grappler

Still got mine somewhere, some them play at the students union at Broomhill (called "The Forge" or something these days), and the singer ended up for a short while in Coronation Street!

It's more than likely a youth loan ( a player under 20 if these are still allowed under the new loan regulations) which can be terminated by either club if necessary don't know how it works regarding wages but I would think that wouldn't be a problem as we are giving experience to one of there future 1St team player.s.

No idea if I'm right or not be it here is my hunch on this matter

Due to new loan regulations his season is essentially over despite being fit by march.

So I can see Boro loaning him to us for the remainder of the season and taking all his wages on. He gets fit with them and their medical team and by March he's already on Loan with us and plays a part in the final 2 months.

That's how I see it anyway. I think we will add a very good dangerous player to the squad at a crucial time for free.

Feel free to tell me I'm wrong

I wonder if they've already agreed a permanent deal and we are still keen to do the deal this spring/summer ??

Quite sexy there...Deidre's not bad either I suppose...

I am sure he went by the name of Charles Paris (Charles Paris and the Push), when singing, and Ray Ashcroft when acting. Was in "The Bill" for a while.

If he's out while at least March and by the time he regains fitness I think we can forget young Harry for this season sadly.

Yes that brought back memories. The guitarist Dave Carr was at school with me. He was ex Greensleeper and he and Carey Bayliss played at my 40th Birthday jamming with the Sharp Cuts. (22 years ago). It was a golden era for Sheffield bands and musicians. Unfortunately the bands I played with never made it. Sigh :(

i used to go and see a few local bands, late 70's onwards. Still do when I get chance.

You know what, 22 years ago when every present was a strange shaped bottle from Lynchburg I am surprised I remembered anything. However, I don't recall him having a beard. I do recall Steve Delaney not being satisfied with the free bottle of premium vodka and actually demanding to be paid the agreed fee for the band in readies.

Last time I saw Mr Bayliss he was sporting a rather lengthy goatee. If you check pics of members on here you can see me with something similar, though his was gingery and mine whitey. :)

he is being lined up for Blackburn, could definitely do a job for us but could not guarantee a start. Have we not really pursued this in exchange for an agreement for us to sign the Blackburn centre half?
