Still looks young for his age. He is pictured at Pastures Lodge, Mexborough, last March with my mate who I played football and cricket with. A very good player for us

trust you be starting a thread in about 40 years when it's Connor Salmons 70th??

happy birthday Geoff btw. UTB

Vital part of the Golden Team, what a left foot, what blistering pace.

Happy Birthday Sammy,and thank you.

My Dad's favourite player from that team. Although Salmons was a popular player I suspect he wasn't the favourite of many given the competition!

He was a mate of my grandparents, neither of whom are still with us.

He saw me play a game for my primary school. He told my nan I "could go all the way" so she went out and bought me an England shirt immediately.

Shame I didn't start supporting the Blades until I was 8 or 9 or this story might be a little more poignant for me.

Decent bloke. Well liked.

Scored the first goal I ever saw at Branalll Lane in a 1-1 draw with Man U. April 4th 1972.

Happy birthday Geoff :)
John Connaughton was Man U's keeper that night. I think Salmons meant to cross the ball. Attendance was 45,045 which is still the highest crowd I went to a match at the Lane

If we hadn’t built that fucking stand with debt we would never have had to sell him in 74, and then we would never have been relegated with that team.

That’s a lesson we should never forget. Don’t bet the farm on an uncertain future. Patient evolution is all that works in the long run unless you have bottomless funding.

Real Magic Takes Time

I was at that game too, 10 year old stood holding on the railings at the front of the kop as the ball sailed over Connaughton and into the net.

Couldn’t believe it when we bought him just a few weeks later

Happy birthday Geoff
I remember going on leppers lane when chezzy played the pigs, Geoff scored in a 3-3 draw,1980 I think it was, top man

Absolutely great player and a very important link in that wonderful team. Should never have been sold.
If I had a fiver for every time I said that over the years it would be some tidy some now
Happy 70th Geoff you brought great memories that have never faded.

Just found this info
