Outgoing? Hamer

Selling the spine of the team always goes well!

First Anel & Vini - losing Hamer too - would be a suicidal decision especially as he's our most pivotal & creative player.

There's obviously big changes happening, which we were warned about.

I can see the whys and why nots for this potential move.

Gus has some great strengths, but they can be sporadic.

I guess my main fear on this one is goals.

We dont look like scoring many at the moment, but if the chances do start, I'd want them landing at the feet of Gus.

I'm one of the sad ones (yes I know you've all worked that out with my posting history), but i watch the end of the warm ups and the shooting drills.

Gus scores 9 out of 10 (was even thinking of suggesting he tries playing as the striker), while the others including Campbell, struggle to hit the target most times.

He's the most natural finisher at the club and if he goes, i dont know who scores the goals, with what we currently have.

Thought there was an article not long ago saying that if hamer went he would be going back to Holland and not Leeds

maybe hamer has known for a while he was going to leeds it would explain his lacklustre performances this season im not as angry about this move as most on here maybe it gets us solomon and the everton midfielder and even another striker which i think we need

Weirdly I'm quite calm about this. I thought I would have a seizure but seeing him play the first few games this season he was all over the place. He doesn't seem to fit the system.

If we get Chong, Matos, Solomon and Woo in and lose Hamer I think I'm ok with that.

I feel like I'd rather have Gus Hamer than this "system".

Still think he ends up at Leeds. For how good he can be, I think they're the only Prem club that'll be willing to spend that sort of money on him.

If the plan is to play him deep he's wasted so might as well cash in. Can't say I have much faith in our ability to replace him though given the names linked so far.

You all owe me a tenner for this months sub

Welp.

We are Certainly blowing the entire thing up this year.

Gus must have pound for pound the best catalogue of goals of anyone who’s ever played for us. Can barely remember one that wasn’t a screamer or outrageous.

We’re gonna miss that match winner if we can’t recreate in the aggregate

Hot Take - Hamer makes us unbalanced and vulnerable to counter attacks. He’s not fit enough to play in the middle which is where he’ll be playing if he stays. I think him leaving could be a blessing in disguise. One sporadic moment of magic is not enough, we need athleticism and consistency in the middle.
I've had similar thoughts this season.

From memory, Jimmy hasn't called one transfer in this window until it was all but confirmed from more reliable sources. I think Biggsy has a better grasp on things than him, but "a stopped clock.." and all that.

Love Hamer, but it does feel we spent all last season not knowing where to play him and we’re about to do the same this season.

For all that he has decent numbers I never felt he was a left winger either.

For me, if we played 3-4-2-1 with two 10s being him and O’Hare, that was probably the best option for both of them as neither are wingers either.

But as a central midfielder he isn’t quite fit enough and turns over possession too much.
I think he could be a Number 10 behind a striker potentially, but we seem not to be playing that type of position either and he’s not one for a huge press either like O’Hare can be.

So arguably you’re better with a proper left winger or a proper out and out central Midfielder at present.

He’s a beautiful footballer but you do need to set up purely with his pros and cons in mind.

Don't want him to go, but can see why. As others have said, he's not the player for the current system. A system installed by the owners. A system designed by our manager. A system that requires complete adoption to succeed. A system that requires very specific skills. A system that removes our reliance on singular people. A system that needs athletes. A system that evidently doesn't fit Gustavo Hamer.

Just had to be that lot as well didn’t it.

It’s always been that lot because they’re only 40 minutes up the M1. Players don’t have to move house, take kids out of school and uproot and by and large they’ve always been in a better position than us.

If we get fair value for him I would happily see him go. He's undoubtedly talented but athletic ability is what modern football is all about. Pudgy skillful types only get so far.

92 points last season and Hamer player of the season.
We must have had some idea what we were doing with him.

Depends who takes his place for me
