As we look for someone to be the defensive midfielder next year just thought I'd throw this out there.

Halford is currently playing the role for Rotherham and is out of contract in the summer.

So is Hammond.

If it came down to choosing between them, who would you opt for?

Of course we can mate. Just curious as to what the preference was if we went down the experienced route.

Somebody who is doing a good job for the in-form team in the division above or someone doing a terrible job for an average team in this division. There really is no competition. Halford is far better, if it had to be one of the two.

Halford so he can sing 'United' before the game.

loved that Game ! always remember both legs of the Preston Play offs and us playing really well with allot of good passing and movement ( which was a bit of a shock that season !) remember the whole team playing really well and Orange face Howard in particular had good games ( and I thought generally he was utter dog shite )
of course all went tits up in the final as per usual !

Halford every time for me !

Halford's a good player albeit one with consistency and possibly mentality issues.

It's clear that he can do it consistently for certain managers though.

It's good to see him doing well in central midfield for Warnock and Blackwell. I wish we would've tried him in there.

I'd take him back next season. Certainly over Dean Hammond. In this division I'm pretty sure he'd excel in at least one position.

Journeymen signings are one of the reasons we are where we are. God knows why posters keep suggesting them even as a conversation piece.

The general thinking seems to be young hungry players are what we need.

If we had to have one of them, Halford for his long throw.

was just thinking about this recently - while our second goal on saturday did start from a throw in, generally we're not very good with them and it's an opportunity missed. A long throw would give us a lot more options, not just into the box a la Rory Delap, but generally.

"Hammond is shite" plodding journeyman when we need young hungry players"

Blade 2
Halfords playing well under Warnock although he was dogshit for the two previous managers at Rotherham

Cor. Let's sign him up, he played for us before, just what we need!

Ffs.

Agreed, a six footer who is 24-27 with pace

I think we can probably all agree that Halford is the better footballer but Adkins has been quite vocal about the fact that Hammond is here for reasons other than his footballing ability. He has been made captain at most of his previous clubs whereas Halford has been placed on the naughty step by a number of managers. Warmock is getting the best out of him now but Adkins has spoken of a desire to sign players who are model professionals and can motivate themselves to perform. Therefore I wouldn’t expect Halford to be remotely on the radar.

.

Same here. I really wanted him to play there when we had him as he seemed to have all the attributes. I remember Blackwell saying he fancied himself as a CM too but that the manager knew best.....

There's only one way to find out...

We've just got rid of one player with drug abuse issues and several with poor attitudes.

There were a lot of rumours about why Halford has never really fulfilled his potential, which, if true, suggests he's the type we should be avoiding.
