I was queueing for a beer behind the Kop and observed this bloke being an arsehole to the staff behind the bar. He'd queued up to get a pint and when they said they couldn't give him one at that hatch, and that he'd have to queue elsewhere to get served, he started shouting and swearing at them. It was pretty unpleasant, the bloke was at least 35 (old enough to know better) and spitting out expletives at young people almost half his age. They just had to stand there and take it. It was really pathetic and childish. People around him were laughing, but it was that nervous "what the fuck!?" kind of laughing.

Mate. I get it. Some rules in this world don't make sense. I know it's daft that they can't serve you at that hatch, I know it's illogical and I know it makes no sense that you have to queue elsewhere to get what you want, even though it's the same bar. But you know those young folks who work there? They have absolutely no control over that. So shouting, swearing and generally being a nasty prick is going to do nothing, apart from make their afternoon more stressful and harder than it already is.

They've given up their spare time to serve entitled knobheads like you for a couple of hours every other weekend for a very small amount of money. The least you can do is offer them some common courtesy. I saw you bragging to your mates about slamming the money down on the counter after shouting at these poor people. What did that achieve? Do you feel good, being horrible to people who are just doing their job? Was it really worth all the aggro? Oh no! You only get 7 pints today, instead of 8. What a fucking tragedy.

I work in customer service, and I'm telling you, we want to help you. We want to give you the best possible solution. But it's a two way street, and you have to help us out. All you have to do is be civil. We know it's daft. We know it makes no sense. But we have no control over it. Please understand that, and don't shout at the nice fresh faced students who just wanna make a few extra quid. Don't be a cunt, mate. That's all.

Is the guy on here?

This doesn’t happen at league games. There are signs all over the frontage telling you where to queue and what is available. The reason it doesn’t happen at league games is because people are regulars. Those people know all this.

My guess is this guy was there because it was cheap. Had a day out and didn’t know what was going off. We all see it.

I was in the South Stand and went for a Bovril at half time. What I witnessed was not the same situation that you describe but something similar.

The lad who was serving was clearly autistic. He was taking the orders and ringing them into the till, then he had this little ritual of pointing at the people who’d ordered and where they were standing and saying out aloud to himself “one there and one there”. He was in fact trying to make sense of it to himself and make sure he didn’t get it wrong. Then he was dashing from the till to pick up the drinks and place them where he’d positioned the people.

This brought a bit of derision from some kids in the queue and some expletives were heard. I felt really sorry for the lad as he was obviously feeling under pressure from the remarks, but credit to him, he stuck to his methods and we all got served.

These kids with autism do well to handle a job like that imo. Their world isn’t our world. They are stuck in their own little world and trying to break out of it. They struggle to make sense of stuff that others find easy. They can really struggle with being given hassle and abuse or ridiculed like that.

I know the kids in the queue who were mocking and hassling him probably had no idea, but it’s not a bad idea to cut s bit of slack for some of these kids who are working for a pittance to give us s good matchday experience. They are only young kids and some have other issues, like this lad.

They’re part of the Blades family and deserve a bit of respect.

It could be your son or daughter. That’s not a bad way to think about your response when you’re feeling frustrated.

Well said mate, social media generally gets a shit review, however if instances like this are exposed, it can only, hopefully make these retards stop and think...... Oh no, that's never gonna happen is it.

There are plenty of boorish anti-social cunts that go week in week out and follow United all around the country.

One of them IS my daughter. Anyone at anytime who upsets her, is getting filled in.

Totally agree with OP, but, it's a two way street customer service. A few games back I made a rare pre match foray to the bar for a tea. Queued like a a good boy minding my own biz with about 8-10 in front of me. When I reached the bar stood there being totally ignored. I eventually said excuse me I've been stood here a few minutes waiting to be served. Young lass snapped back "like I told the others you can't get served from this queue, we've only got one till operator you'll have to to join this queue, at the back"! Somewhat perturbed I snapped back why didn't you tell the whole queue instead of letting us wait to be told individually? "not my job" and carried on serving.
At that point I felt like acting like the nob in the OP but thought better of it, needless to say I didn't bother re queuing as KO was looming. Thought about emailing a complaint re her attitude but couldn't be arsed. Just do what I usually do, avoid the shite overpriced catering inside the ground.

I doubt tosspots like that have the ability to self-reflect, mate. He'll think nothing other than he was right. Agree with every word you say. Unfortunately, a small number are dicks.

So you finally met Tyler Durden......

There are tossers everywhere, football grounds tend to get more than their fair share. I'm still heartened by the fact that many years ago my daughter too sold pies, at both BDTBL, and Hillsborough (she worked for an agency and did both), and she always said that generally the customers at BDTBL were much kinder and more polite than the ones at the other place. Politeness and a bit of tolerance costs nowt, and makes the world a better place!
