Gustavo Hamer

Whilst I totally agree Hamer needs to work on his fitness/conditioning.

Whether that is entirely his own doing or that he's been carrying an injury is another matter. We can't actually say despite the general opinion. He's clearly not totally out of shape otherwise he wouldn't be able to compete at all.

But let's not do the typical Sheffield United thing of if he is leaving he's now crap. He really isn't. Deep down we know he's very talented and about the best midfielder at the level we are still at. (Hence the award)

If he goes, which I suspect he will. A replacement will be needed. Id expect not quite the full fee to be reinvested.

Then there are two ways of looking at replacing him though. One is to do as like for like replacement. Which I would think searching abroad would be your best bet.

Or you tweak how we play and sign one or two players for that system.

Personally I feel the system needs evolving anyway. Id think most would think the same. Id rather we didn't play the inverted wingers and go more dedicated pacey wingers. Brooks could still work in this system too for his development.

I'd like Hamer to stay however. He is a bonfire top end championship player. Who can also compete at the level above. But I do feel that's unlikely.
Have Coventry got anyone we can replace him with? Even if it’s just for the shithouse value

Go on.
Explain it to me.
What part of our culture is holding Gus back?
Same culture that has players like basham who could run all day, got billy Sharp at his best even in his 30s and various others playing at the highest levels of their career!

I think Hamer is a good player. I don't think he's an outstanding one akin to a Ndiaye or MGW etc.

Our culture brings out the best in good and average players, it also allows brilliant ones to shine. Old Yorkshire men shouting on the sideline didn't hold Brooks, MGW, McAtee Henderson, Ndiaye and Gus back. Do we demand a work ethics and a graft like some other clubs might not need as much? Yeah. But we've had some elite players over this past decade while our neighbours with their young, fresh look, "new idea" managers have had zero. Wilder can man manage the Anels just as much as he can the Jake Wrights.

He wasn't even our player of the year though, was he?
I wonder if that has happened before , where the Player of the Season for The Division does not win their own Clubs Player of the Season

That doesn’t sound right, pretty sure he was suspended for 3 games…and must have been injured for at least a couple. He was rested for the last away game, wasn’t he sat in the away end?

There’s no denying he is technically brilliant but his fitness levels aren’t where they need to be. He usually starts strong and goes quiet in the second half. Not sure if the blame should be directed at our fitness team for this.
At Championship level it is a completely different game to what it was 5 years ago, we see players coming off after 75 mins not because they are unfit but physically incapable of consistently performing at such a high level for 90 mins. If Hamer was capable of that he would sell for 30m at least and be in a top 10 premier league team/squad. Gibbs white can do repeated sprints and not lose his technical ability for 90 mins. Ndiaye is incapable of doing doing the 90 and the is obvious by substitutions and it probably means he will not make it into the top teams in the country. We have been blessed with seeing some quality players recently and the next one through the production line is probably One who can replicate speed sprinting for 90 mins and has technique ability/ physical attributes that could be capable of premier league football. You can’t train someone these attributes and if you’ve got them and you have the right coaches you have a chance at the highest level. I thought when Spurs paid what they did for Johnson they were mental but if you dig down into his repeated sprinting and how long he stays on the pitch doing it you see why Spurs bought him. Back to the Blades we have a few players in our squad who are capable of high level performance Arblaster and Peck. Arblaster’s injury affected our season because of the above, he is capable of 90 mins repeated sprints you can’t train someone to do it whose body is not capable of it.

Come on. The season is now at an end.
Newspapers and internet sites have columns to fill.
Expect the usual speculation, guesses, downright ridiculous headline bollocks that are there to generate clicks.

Fucking Klopp pushing through the 7 subs has fucked football for anyone outside the top6

To be fair Bogle does sort of back what he's saying up.
Bogle virtually played the full season and one of the reasons Leeds went up.
Maybe Culture is not the right word but I do think our Fitness and conditioning need looking at.
Culture to me makes us sound like piss head morons. Like we're a group of Mousset's and McBurnie's. There's no way on earth that Wilder and the team don't push our training and our fitness to the absolute limit.
Maybe the intensity has dropped off since his first tenure just because of all the injuries we've picked up? Who else plays unfit though other than Gus and Campbell? Campbell always seems to have a knock and Hamer goes down with a knock with 15min left of every game. Neither is really the coaching staffs fault.

Question is will he be the same player.

It's worse than that. Going out for "a few beers" is encouraged by the management and the "culture carriers". No wonder we run out of gas at 70 minutes.

Totally unprofessional.
The players do not drink. Most drinking takes place out of season. They dedicate themselves to the sport and rightfully so.

Pointless trying to explain it to you, your stuck in the past like a lot of others
What by asking??
It's almost like you don't have a point.
Almost like you call Wilder and his team Dinosaurs just because they're English and over 40.

Totally unprofession

His run in the final for Campbell's goal showed how fast he can be. He also got a yellow cards for running back quickly and tackling players. He's quick but he doesn't recover between runs fast enough, and that's a fitness/conditioning issue of which he's not the only one.
It’s a case of his body type can be trained to get to 75 minutes but beyond it there’s a brick wall. Montgomery no brick wall but unfortunately he wasn’t blessed with Hamer’s talent.

Hamer under a more professional manger and regime will be even better than the Hamer we’ve seen
He’ll still only do 75 mins. It beggars belief that on this forum they belief that the club is negligent of many if not all aspects of fitness. They employ the best dieticians, fitness coaches, sports psychologists as well as food prepared for them on a daily basis, best doctors as well as surgeons not for fun but to try to get an edge over all other football clubs.

He must have been fit enough to play for 90 minutes at some stage of his footballing development. Or did he progress through all the youth systems up to the elite level while saying 'sorry, with my body type I can only do 75 minutes?'

Sorry but you are wrong. We employ the best fitness and conditioning coaches we can. The issue is we don’t buy fantastic players who are capable of such high levels of performance added to technical ability as invariably cost 10s of millions more unless you get lucky of course. I know you won’t find them in untried Peruvian leagues where the issues we are talking about are even more unknown

Yes but consistently I don’t know as I can only say he’s played at Coventry and a German club but who wouldn’t sign someone like him who can do such good stuff for 75 mins.

People on this forum keep repeating that but their rumoured budget is 100 million which is about what i expected ours to be
Personally I am not in the know on budget available. I know they have committed to spend at least £100million on their stadium alone over a period of time (not sure how that is broken down) however with inflation and cost prices/contracts some "experts" think this will be more likely £150-200million. Squad wise although they did well in the Championship and are a decent side. I personally don't think they have the week in week out quality unless they invest at least £100million into the squad, that could be through "loan value" e.g. signing a player from Man City valued at £35million on loan for the season. But to be in with a chance of survival they probably need at least 5 or 6 quality signings.

Gus was once out having shots with thr Coventry fans.
People will just say that's why Wilder likes him though 😒

Bang on the money, sloths and piss heads would be got rid of. One they’d seize to play 20 mins 2) because they would weaken performance of the team
