Gustavo Hamer

I'll always like Hamer and I think he goes with our blessings even if it's Leeds because Leeds now are a PL club, sadly. It's not like when Bogle joined Leeds in the summer. I obviously hope he doesn't join Leeds but wherever he goes i wish him well personally, less so at Leeds obviously!

He seems a decent guy too and he's been our best player. Let's remember he stayed after relegation and could have pushed for a move.

There’s inevitably going to be some outgoings and whilst it’s a shame, Hamer looks to be the most likely to leave.

I just hope there’s a decent plan for the incomings and I hope it’s not just on Wilder’s say so - he’s done a lot for this club but his signings, particularly with money to spend, particularly recently, have been hit and miss and we can’t afford to mess up this season.

I'd like him to stay but he's hardly Glyn Hodges is he.
We've lost better players.
Hodges was class but I'd personally prefer Hamer as Hodges was inconsistent, apart from the first half season on loan. That's my view but on his day Hodges was sublime and I know Hamer doesn't perform every week but I think overall hrs pretty consistent.

We're a bunch of wankers as a fan base aren't we? Fat, burger, insert any food related insult you prefer. He's a joy to watch mostly although not beyond criticism. We did the same with Ndiaye and MGW. Entertainers clearly aren't for everyone. MGW wasn't even our player but was a joy to watch and always gave 100%, still got dogs abuse. It's really strange behaviour.

I personally don't want him to go and would rather sell next year when he's still got a year left. Call him unfit if you like but the way he motored to create our first and only play-off final goal was impressive. We should build this years promotion push around him. But if for some reason we feel compelled to sell.. then please don't trust Wilder with the cash.

He a superb player who at times is a joy to watch and has given us some great moments.

Unfortunately for everything good he gives, he tries something which doesn’t / is never going to come off, he commits completely unnecessary fouls and gives the ball away far too often. We need consistency from him if he’s going to stay, but also need to play him in the middle not on the wing.

MGW learnt from his mistakes in the season we had him and has gone on to be one of the best players in the premier league. I think Ndiaye will provide similar over the next year or so and both will end up at one of the top 4 teams.

Hamer has the ability to be a top, top player but I doubt he will ever have the dedication and professionalism to see him move up a level consistently.

I guess if he stays we have to just accept his flaws and enjoy him for what he is. For me if we can get a good amount for him and replace with someone more consistent for the team as a whole, I would sadly, probably take it.

Not that it’s up to me of course.

In all seriousness, do we even want gus to stay. He’s got two years left on his deal, say he stayed and we got promoted, I don’t see him signing another deal. We’d just have another berge and ndiaye situation where we have to sell our best player for a cut price fee. Might as well make a profit now and reinvest.

Don’t think he’s that good. Be great in the maverick days of yore. Not really now. Just need better.

Not sure what people are going on about Hamer's supposed fitness for? This season he's started 39 games out of the 46 (and came on as a sub in 5, meaning he only missed 1 game) and played 90 mins in 21 of them (more than half). His average time on the pitch when he starts is 83 mins. Add to that he's been played as a winger this season so will be doing more running than what he's been used to in his career where he's always played central midfield. Wish I was as fit as him!

I'll miss him, but he's 28. I wouldn't blame him for wanting to move, he's got the quality to do well in the PL. Just hope we can get enough for him to rebuild a team that can compete at the top next season as we would be losing a big part of our production. We are unlikely to be able to replace him with a player of his quality (at least initially), as any player that good will be looking at a PL/top tier league move.

If he stays we need to extend the contract another couple of years as we don't want to have a firesale next summer with 1 year left.

If I was Gus, I'd ahead abroad.

He has nothing left to prove in this division and can pick up a bigger pay cheque in a less physically demanding league that will suit his style.
Holland, Germany or Italy.

If we can get £20m for him, I don't think we should stand in his way.

A great player, full of entertainment, but I always felt our side looked a little imbalanced with him in that wide position.
You can't replace Gus like-for-like in this division but utilise the funds wisely and we may look a better team.

Anel & Souza will likely follow him out the door.
Souza is the one I really hope we can keep.

A luxury Everton could afford because their tactics wouldn’t have to revolve around Hamer pulling something out of his arse like ours do.

The likelihood is he’d go there, play in his real position and be an asset to them. See also Sander Berge at Fulham.

We need this kind of player to do everything, the likes of Everton and Fulham have good players around them and can utilise their strengths and use others to counteract their weaknesses. We don’t have that luxury.
Involving O'Hare more often might have provided that counter.Along with others utilised in their best positions🙏

If we get rid of Hamer we might have to get a style of play!

The greatest loan signing we've ever had. As soon as he got a contract he went on the pop. If I remember rightly he was spotted in the pub before Luton away and then started.

Players could get away with it back then, although it obviously shortened their careers.

I get the impression that quite a lot of our fans, and maybe even our manager, think it’s fine for players to be going out for a few beers. Obviously it’s not ok in the modern game if you want to be successful, and it says a lot about what is wrong with the culture of the club.

Starting with the Banner Blade himself?

Hamer is our talisman. All of this talk about “I don’t care if he leaves” for me is just talk to soften another blow. I really hope he stays, 2 years left in his deal gives us some sort of financial insurance.

But for this club to be successful, like most things in life we need to stick together and that goes for the squad, of course get rid of dead wood, but add leaders, strong minded, head strong players because that’s what’s cost us not individual flair. If we’re not careful we’ll add those leaders but lose our flair and end up like most teams in this division. Mid table grafters.
