Gustavo Hamer

Players could get away with it back then, although it obviously shortened their careers.

I get the impression that quite a lot of our fans, and maybe even our manager, think it’s fine for players to be going out for a few beers. Obviously it’s not ok in the modern game if you want to be successful, and it says a lot about what is wrong with the culture of the club.
Agreed. I don't really want any footballers at the club who aren't committed and by being committed I mean professional. No footballer shoot be drinking during the season. They're athletes. They need to act like athletes.

If I was Gus, I'd ahead abroad.

He has nothing left to prove in this division and can pick up a bigger pay cheque in a less physically demanding league that will suit his style.
Holland, Germany or Italy.

If we can get £20m for him, I don't think we should stand in his way.

A great player, full of entertainment, but I always felt our side looked a little imbalanced with him in that wide position.
You can't replace Gus like-for-like in this division but utilise the funds wisely and we may look a better team.

Anel & Souza will likely follow him out the door.
Souza is the one I really hope we can keep.

The problem with England is that we have a track record of rather average players going for big fees and being rewarded with daft wages. That sort of thing happens far less often on the continent. It's one of the things that makes the Premier League so attractive to foreign players.

So while I agree that a foreign move could be good for Gus, from our point of view it might mean us settling for a lower fee than he might fetch domestically because clubs abroad will see a £20million price tag on him and tell us to fuck off. I don't think we get that price for him abroad. Iliman went to Marseille for similar or less and he's a far more exciting player than Hamer with a higher potential.

Feels the right time to cash in. Not in the same league as Ndiaye and we got on alright without him in the Championship.

Think he’s not far off his ceiling athletically and given his build, I wouldn’t be surprised if his performances went off a cliff when he hits 30 like Fleck.

Hamer to Everton, DCL in return.
DCL is supposed to be signing for Newcastle as a free agent.

Also id say people talk about players that have fitness issues in our squad and not available all season/past 60-70min mark then in next breath we are getting suggestions of a player that has massive fitness issues.

It's worse than that. Going out for "a few beers" is encouraged by the management and the "culture carriers". No wonder we run out of gas at 70 minutes.

Totally unprofessional.

But we didn’t get on we’ll without him… our results nosedived, if he is going to be sold we MUST buy a suitable replacement, because those points will be very hard to come by if we play like we did last year.

Those downplaying Hamer are kidding themselves, assuming softening blow of him leaving in there own minds.

Of course he’s not perfect, but would start, without question, at every club in the Championship. We will not recruit a player as good as Hamer to fill the gap.

It’s possible we could rebalance / reshape the side, but a LFL replacement? Forget it.

I wouldn't want a like for like. I would want a more traditional winger type. Especially with blaster back adding a bit of skill in the middle.

I have been thinking which club could I imagine coming in for him in the premier league and I can't think of any tbh!

If he does go, which is expected we’d be as well playing O’Hare in the 10 and going balls deep on 3/4 top wingers.

Leeds killed teams with quality wingers constantly wearing opponents down. Solomon and James with the likes of Gnonto on the bench.

We’ve played most of the season in a 4231 formation, to do that properly we need pacey dribblers and two for each side.

There isn’t a like for like replacement for Gus. I just hope if he does go it’s to an established top flight team so we can wish him well.

You'd rather he stayed on the pitch injured?
Yes ! Last match so could play on.
It is no coincidence he goes down around 70 minutes Every match so he could manage the last one surely.

He is a big player for us and it left an hole which Sunderland with the help of us playing with 10 when they scored the winner!.
Clubs will have noticed he can't finish games for whatever reason so will scrutiny any weaknesses in his fitness and whether rest or a operation is needed to get a full match out of him.

Hamer is our talisman. All of this talk about “I don’t care if he leaves” for me is just talk to soften another blow. I really hope he stays, 2 years left in his deal gives us some sort of financial insurance.

But for this club to be successful, like most things in life we need to stick together and that goes for the squad, of course get rid of dead wood, but add leaders, strong minded, head strong players because that’s what’s cost us not individual flair. If we’re not careful we’ll add those leaders but lose our flair and end up like most teams in this division. Mid table grafters.
Agree we should pull out all the stops to keep the best players and not be afraid to ditch even the loyalist of players if they are no longer good enough...like Robbo and Brewster

Do you really think players are going to listen to Wilder telling them not to drink during the season and to act professional after what he was videoed doing after beating Wednesday? You lead by example and inspire people to follow. Wilder is not a leader, he's one of the lads.

But has anyone told them that Peroni alcohol free is really nice?

If Hamer does leave, anyone have any realistic replacements in mind?
It would be realistic not to seek to replace him. I think we rely on him too much; sit back, give it to Hamer, see what happens, isn't a system you build a successful team on

It's all well and good saying leave Arblaster as his replacement but we've no idea how his injury is going to effect him long-term. He might not return the same player. If we're going to consider selling Hamer, which might not be our choice if he wants to go*, so lining up a replacement is a must.

* but players are under contract so we can tell them no.

Asgard looked good in a relegated Luton side, 23 and should be available

Murphy did well at pompey

Not sure what Doaks fee would be, but we will have funds to buy if no prem clubs come in for him

A player that I've really enjoyed watching for the past two years. He's undeniably the best in the division, yeah he's a bit chubby, but he's a maverick and the sort of player that is worth your match ticket. Hope he goes to Everton though, rather than Leeds scum.

Hamer reminds me of Andy Reid in many respects, only Reid could last 90 minutes despite being "fat"
