Cresswell and Porter...just believe! :)

Deano and Agana

They didn't play together much but Bill Dearden and Jim Bone had a prolific spell together.

At a lower level, Edwards and Hatton.

I really enjoyed seeing Deane and Agana but my favourite 2 were Mick Jones and Alan Birchenall (with Tony Currie supplying the "ammo". Maybe not the most prolific pair but tremendous to watch

Having missed Agana at the Lane, the best I've seen is probably Fjortoft and Katchouro. If anyone can think of a viable alternative I'd be very grateful, as that seems a little underwhelming!

Peschisolido and Allison had their moments to, particularly Pesch's hat trick away to Gillingham (I think).

martin smith & marcus bent were very prolific for a short spell

smith 10 in 26 apps according to wiki and 20 in 48 for bent. I think we sold smith to huddersfield. Probably not the best but it they always stick in my mind

Did TC actually play when the Blonde Bombers were in action? Can't have been more than a couple of games if he did.

I'm with SEB, Duggie Brown's a shoe in, doesn't matter who you put alongside to be honest, anyone could play with the master and the results would be the same.

Edwards and Hatton ,Hatton was very under rated.

Here's one for Dazzler, I seem to remember there was a game in the 81/2 season where Sir Keith got his 100th League goal and Hatton his 200th, Tranmere rings a vague bell..................

Agreed on both points. To this day I still don't know how Hatton did his trademark turn - worked every time. Think it was Northampton, 7-3, where both scored hat-tricks?

Obviously an old git like me, Exeterboy. You also marvelled at the skill and technique of the Scottish Messi. We'll never see the like at BDTBL again.

Stars in a glittering Milky Way of stars in that team Hodgy! Don't think TC was around then though, but if he had have been!

Deane and Agana. The partnership had everything including a song that always makes an appearance when I'm pissed.

If I could choose who to start this comming Season with, Deane and Agana would be first choice

Certainly not the greatest but Taylor and Walker were a proper effective pairing for a short time.

I'm fairly certain both had left by the time we signed Currie in 1968.

Yes, Mick Jones left for L**ds on the day before we played Newcastle in Sept 1967. Bichenall left for Chelsea in Nov 1967. TC joined us on 1st February 1968 after we played in the FA Cup tie at Watford

Gillespie wasnt a striker. He was more of a creative inside forward. When Jimmy Dunne became our main striker in the late 1920s and late 1930s he had a better goal ratio than Johnson. Fred Tunstall (left winger) provided a lot of crosses for Dunne to score hence the regular newspaper headlines "Tunny Dunn it"

who would you say was deardens best partner ,salmons or reece ?

The formation we played in those days wasnt straightforward, it was more of a 4-3-3 formation. Dearden being the battering ram striker , Woody providing the crosses, Salmons played more deep but when he attacked he would run on the left wing. I would say Reece played in the same team as Dearden no more than 35 times and attacked on the left (timing his runs for crosses by Woody) but he didnt provide many crosses also he was the link behind Dearden or Tudor. When 442 became more popular in the mid to late 1970s then we had more strike partnerships. I cannot really think of any proper strike partnerships we had before Jones and Birchenall. To answer your question I would say Tudor was probably Dearden's best partner although they didnt play many games together
