Great referee today ...

Nobody in the ground saw it.
Nobody appealed.
Therefore not clear and obvious.
Why did bastard VAR even get involved?
Because the VAR official was Paul fucking incompetent Tierney. You know the VAR official who missed the Villa ghost goal! Knew as soon as his name was announced there would be controversy with him around.

Point taken!

Credit where it’s due, whoever the ref was he was brilliant tonight. Got every big decision right and didn’t let the game get bogged down with free kicks until very late in the game when we were doing some shithousing and time wasting.

That said, that backpass non-decision was one of the worst I've ever seen.

Thought the sendings off were his only good decisions but they were clear and obvious so he should be getting them right, same with the penalty. Hamer missed the ball and the man, their player goes down, play on then when he stays down, blow for a free kick and Hamer gets a yellow. Davis about to take a short corner, granted to waste time but their player encroaches so Davis rightfully holds it up. Cue another yellow. I thought he lost control after the 2nd red and got more petty as the game went on.

Apart from him not booking any of their players for diving and not giving the most blatant back pass you will see this season.

Although he did us a favour wasting quite a bit of injury time running 50 yards to book Wilder, then 50 yards back again 😄

Don’t think they really deserved bookings but he didn’t give them free kicks for their diving. They didn’t prosper with it.

The back pass didn’t seem to be one in all honesty. But not seen a replay

The ref assumed Peck passed it to their keeper and the linesman who was looking directly at it is like most of them a waste of space.

From the Kop (I haven't seen it again to be fair) it looked like a hugely egregious failure to apply the rules. But maybe it did take a nick and I missed it.

Peck was pressing their player but I am fairly sure he didn't touch it at all and their player was certainly wanting to pass it back to his keeper under pressure.

At the ground and live I thought he was shite with some ridiculous calls :) (though had little choice with the reds).

Not seen any replays yet though.

Also the referee's abject cowardice in booking Hamer when initially he didn't even think it was a foul.

One of those occasions where his terrible decisions helped us because it got everyone fired up.

Yep, that one looked ridiculous, it appeared that he didn't think it was a free kick and then reacted to either a word in the ear or the player laying down, "yeah, of course it's a free kick, and obviously a booking, here you are".

Also, completely ignoring the simulation (including not giving multiple attempt to con him, but at the same time, completely ignoring the fact they were doing it).

It's spineless refereeing but it's what we have come to expect from most refs.

Their player suddenly recovers once the free kick is given. It's a Christmas miracle!

'You're not fit to referee' from both ends of the pitch tonight!
Not the ref's fault but there was a bit of play acting going on again. If they can't see it at the time there should be some retrospective punishment.
Looked like a back pass as well which he misssed

Pretty sure a few mins before Hamers booking, Hamer put a tackle in worthy of a booking and got nothing.

For his booking, he took the man then the man hit the ball into Hamer and it bounced off him. The theatrics apart it was a free kick and a booking for me

The dive by Bellingham in the first half definitely deserved a booking. It's cheating, it's obvious, it needs stamping out.

The referee played in until their player stayed down long enough to make him reconsider. If it was a foul it was a foul straight away, not five seconds later. He was dreadful in that second half, though it ended up benefitting us.

He got the two red card decisions and the penalty right.. not sure what else he did right at all, some of the decisions he gave against both sides were utterly bizarre, The back pass bottle job and booking Davies for the opposition encroachment were two of the most ridiculous things I have ever seen

The one before was a blatant booking, no idea why the ref didn't give it.
