Local charities are set to receive a £10,000 cash donation from next month's Sheffield derby.

Sheffield United have decided to donate their £10,000 rights fee from the beam-back of the big game at Bramall Lane to local good causes.

Wednesday are set to show the derby on a big screen on the pitch at Hillsborough after selling out their 3,000 ticket allocation for the match on 7th February.

The last time United and Wednesday staged a beam-back of the Sheffield derby, the Blades donated the profits of the rights fee to Rotherham United's Save the Millers campaign.

Jason Rockett, chief executive at United, said: "Following the practice of charging we agreed with Sheffield Wednesday that, this time around, we would donate the fee to a number of charities in the Sheffield region.

"We understand that during the current economic climate charities are going to struggle to raise funds, so we are pleased to do what we can to help."

Sheffield Wednesday chairman, Lee Strafford, said:

"We are very pleased to be able to work on this project with Sheffield United, enabling more of our supporters to watch the Steel City derby from their home stadium whilst also benefiting local charities.

"The speed with which the away tickets sold out for this game shows that there is a massive appetite to watch what promises to be a great event for the whole of Sheffield."

Permission from the Football Association, the Football League along with the Blades was gained to stage the beam-back.

The Blades have agreed with Sheffield Wednesday that, for future fixtures between the city clubs, no rights fees will be applicable if a beam-back is required.

I hope Wednesday donate some of the money made charging their fan to watch the game at Swillsborough too.

Think they pocketed it all when we had the beam back, whilst we paid the money gained from tickets to Rotherham. In effect, we paid twice.

Well I suppose the Owls are a local charity.
