This morning I’ve woken up and it was pretty much the first thing I’ve thought about and I struggled to get straight off to sleep last night as it was on my mind.

What I’m finding difficult to do is rationalise it. He was a footballer who I only met a couple of times but it’s floored me.

Honestly feels like a family member.
Terrible, horrible, cruel news.
My thoughts are with all his friends and loved ones.
⚡⚔️💔

Absolutely shocking. George always wore the red and white with pride and was a fantastic player for us. Love to his family and friends. RIP.😔

Shocked and gutted (massive understatement) with this. As my username would suggest, we played the same position and I’d been lucky enough to play on the same patch of Bramall Lane grass as him on a couple of occasions. Always loved the no nonsense, full blooded way he played and got giddy when he put a crunching tackle in. My late wife even bought me the ‘Starman’ tshirt not long before she passed away. RIP, Furious. Condolences to all the family, friends, teammates and fans who adored him. 😞

Couldn't sleep last night, kept waking up every 10 minutes with an overwhelming feeling of devastation. The circumstances are so very sad, his daughters first birthday, him being on his own without his family and being found at the bottom of his pool. It is gut-wrenching for all concerned, I can't begin to think how his family are coping.

I just "hope", (wrong word I know) that it was a tragic accident and nothing else.

RIP George, forever in our hearts at BDTBL.

Like everyone else, I’m completely stunned by this news. I feel like I’ve lost someone I know even though I never met him. One of my favourite players of recent times and an absolute top bloke by all accounts.

R.I.P George x

Such sad news about George.

What a player he was for us during some of our most successful and memorable years in my 50+ seasons of following SUFC.

Condolences to his family.

RIP …… Blade.

I came on here an hour ago after working on a project last night & not having any social media contact or Sky News on, & when I saw it thought it must have been a sick hoax, couldn't possibly be true, not George. Then coming here & realising it was true has knocked me sideways. I mean, George was a force of nature, how can it be?
Unbelievably sad, thoughts are with his family & friends.

I am absolutely devastated. He was a fantastic player in our golden generation. As many have said, wholehearted, furious and passionate, I loved his fist pumps at the end of games or after goals.

My heart goes out to his parents, Brothers, Wife, Daughter and friends.

Rest In Peace GB and thank you for so many amazing memories.

Absolutly devestated to hear of the terrible news about baldock, feel so sorry for his family it must be horrendous to lose someone so young. Rip george you were loved and respected by all of us

R I P George.

Epitomised all that a Blade should be on the pitch, always gave 100%, and a lovely person too.

Will be missed by everyone, so sorry for his family.

Thanks Starman for the great memories.

Similar.

I think for me, the sense of loss, of grief, is because George epitomised the things that a fan expects from anyone who wears the shirt.

He cared as much as we do, he got that

Absolutely stunned by this, as is everyone else. I can’t even begin to imagine what his family are going through. RIP star man.

He was one of us.

He played like we would play if we were ever good enough, or lucky enough to play for Utd.

He embodied what being a professional sportsman is about. Super fit, passionate, a great team mate, and a good person off the pitch.

He's earned his place as a legend.

RIP Starman - we will miss you 💔

This sums it up perfectly, he played like anyone of us would have

Never met him but I felt I knew him you know? He played for 'our' club..gone too soon..RIP George and thanks for everything..

Can’t help getting choked up reading players and ex players msgs and the photos on insta. Players will do a generic RIP msg regardless if they even got on with the player I’d say as that is social media but you can tell the love they had for George is real and each msg is truly heartfelt, just read Mark Duffys one and his pics and it’s so hard not to shed a tear 😢
