Devastated 💔

Loved Georgie as a player. An infectious determination and spirit. He got us right from the start.

Gone at 31 y/o is just not fair but, if a life can be judged by the amount of love it has generated, then this thread alone will tell you how successful our 'Starman's life has been.

Thank you for the fantastic memories and always making me proud to be a Blade.

Let's have a big picture of him painted at the back of the Kop so he can stand and support the lads with us all every match.

UTB ❤️

Rivalries aside at times like this. It's all about respect.

As I've mentioned on the thread about that bloke mocking the West Brom fan, were football rivals and that's as far as it goes for me.

Yeah there'll no doubt be a couple wankers who will make jokes about this as he was a long serving Blade, those kinda wankers that take the football rivalry too far but pretty much all of us on either side of Sheffield understand that we're all in it for the same love of the same game. I'll mock and joke about players, managers etc but it's never personal, it's the badge they're wearing. As soon as that badge comes off they're another person one who I'd treat with respect. Had this happened to a Wednesday player I'd like to think all us fans and the club would extend the same condolences. Those 11 lads out there managed something all of us dreamed of as kids and they've provided us with some insanely happy and infuriating times.

They deserve a lot of credit for this, not something they had to do but they've done it regardless.

When something this shocking happens I tend to go numb for a bit, I’ve read through all of this thread with tears in my eyes, there are so many fantastic tributes to the man. My thoughts and condolences go to all his family and friends.

My only positive thought I can take out of this is that he was a man who meant so much to so many and he seemed to have made so much out of his 31 years. There’s a crumb of comfort in that. A shining example.

Oxford Fan here. Just wanted to come on and say how absolutely tragic it is that George has left us.
He wasn’t at Oxford long but my goodness, what a player.
No surprise that he played at the top level with you guys as he was one of the best players to pull on a yellow shirt for us.
We share your grief. Top guy who died far too young. RIP George. You were loved.

So sad to read all the above posts but pleased to see the obvious respect and admiration that all showed towards George, as a person and player. All of which I endorse- not an inappropriate one amongst them. Demonstrates what great supporters we have.
R.I.P. George

A real gent, met him a couple of times when I was worse for wear, he was patient and listened to my views on the days football. Top man and TOP BLADE. Gutted for him and his family, so sad for young family man.

Couldn't sleep last night, kept waking up every 10 minutes with an overwhelming feeling of devastation. The circumstances are so very sad, his daughters first birthday, him being on his own without his family and being found at the bottom of his pool. It is gut-wrenching for all concerned, I can't begin to think how his family are coping.

I just "hope", (wrong word I know) that it was a tragic accident and nothing else.

RIP George, forever in our hearts at BDTBL.
Yes.

When you put those factors together with the one report that there was a (empty?) bottle of vodka nearby I trust that there were no private factors involved in this wonderful man's tragic death. One trusts being on his own was not an ingredient in his untimely loss. I do hope it really was 'natural causes'.

It appears George was quite a sensitive man and as a footballer akin to Mark Hughes in being quite ferocious on the patch and a warmhearted selfless man off it. Such a tragedy. Sadly his one year old daughter is not likely to remember her daddy but what she can be is very, very proud of what he was as a person and what he achieved in his career. I am sure his wife is equally devastated along with the wider Baldock family.

Goodbye George, one of the few players who really did 'leave it all out there on the pitch'.

Thank God for this forum sometimes.

Some great moments and memories posted here.
I was in tears last night and have been this morning, while watching videos of the Starman.
A club captain, armband or not. Embodies everything we could possibly want in a Blades player on and off the pitch.
Not a flattering image of myself (especially not next to gorgeous George) but I bumped into him on a night out on West Street as we were last promoted to the PL.
As you can tell, I was immeasurably intoxicated so McBurnie especially (pictured in the background), Foderingham and McAtee were doing their best to avoid a very drunk me. Baldock, however, stood and listened to me telling him over and over 'how good looking he was and that every woman (and man) I know thought the same'.

A true loss and the brightest of starmen. RIP.

I’ve been trying to understand my reaction to this. I’ve lost family members which is always upsetting but to be this upset over a footballer seems a little strange. Plenty of blades players have died in my time supporting them. I suppose the closest to my reaction to George for the mens team was probably Mel Rees with the difference being we all knew it was coming. Other players were older and you sort of expected it at some point. A bit like Maddy, George’s death just came from nowhere.
As with others I never really met him or knew him but I feel like I’ve lost one of my best mates. I’m trying to work but keep looking back on here and upsetting myself again. Can’t even imagine what his family are going through but I for one would always extend a loving welcome to them if ever they feel they can come to the Lane.

So shocked and sad to hear this news. George’s skill, endeavour and attitude in a Blades shirt were always manifest in those things that make me proud to follow this club. Never left anything out there, RIP George

Wouldn't it be great if we could get all the players that played with george over the past years at the lane when we get chance to remember him

I said it in the Wednesday thread last week, when they’d put the picture of Jonny up on the big screen at Hilsbrough, most Wednesday fans are just like us and are decent folk and it’s times like this you realise that really our rivalry is trivial.

I rarely get too interested in England games but I will be watching tonight with tears in my eyes hoping to see some fitting tributes to George. The story about him buying a defribilator for the young lad tells you everything about him. George represented everything that is good about our club and not just on the pitch.

And Keith Solomon.

Gutted doesn’t even begin to describe how I feel about this. It’s surreal. Don’t think I’ve ever felt so numb from the death of someone I’ve never actually met, but I just feel sick thinking about this.

Fantastic player who always gave his all. For me, he’s comfortably the best right back we’ve had in my lifetime. He’s only a day older than me, which is quite a sobering thought.

Devastated for his family. What a horrendous situation for all involved.

Struggling to believe this news and hard to put into word's my feelings at this time.
He just got Sheffield United from the minute he walked through the door, never gave less than 100% and that's all you can ask for.
Up there with Len Badger as the best right back I've seen at this club.
No matter how we as supporters feel,my heart goes out to his family at this time, may the tributes being paid to George help in some way to ease the pain of his passing.
May he rest in peace

Dreadful news. Never met him but he was clearly a true gent.
Could somebody who uses social media post some of the tributes from current / ex-players?
