Still struggling to process this one a bit. What a player, and what a man too. This one has really hit hard, as proven by the outpourings of sadness from across the footballing world. 31 is no age, and I feel so sad for his family and friends. I agree with the poster who mentioned what he managed to pack into those 31 years though. Starman always burned brightly and will continue to do so in our hearts and memories.

I feel like he was such a representative of what the club means to so many people that we’re mourning not just for him, but for a bit of the club and a bit of ourselves that has sadly been taken away. Players like that don’t come along very often. RIP George.

I just keep reading the reports and can scarcely believe it.

Whole hearted player who did his absolute best every time he pulled on the shirt.

RIP

What a wonderful story that is. Makes a change from the often stated activities of players who just blow it on the gee-gees.
Footballers get a lot of stick but some of them are really nice people, who appreciate what they've got. Good on George for this, seems like he was one of the good ones :(

Of all the players and People, George Baldock 😢 I am truly lost for words and so many have said on here already was a blades player that got the Blades way and did everything in the way that win draw or lose you knew he had given everything he could him and Bash were players you just counted on and knew were 110 percent to the cause, shocked sad and can't believe it, rest in peace Georgie B, you will be very much missed.

Still in shock since the news broke last night. Reading the many tributes to George has had me in bits this morning and it's still hard to believe that he's passed away.
We were priveleged to see him in a Blades shirt for so many years, never giving any less than 100%.
A special player, and a special man who will forever hold a special place in our hearts.
God bless you George and sincere condolences and love to your family and friends.

Been down to car park over dinner time. People have started laying flowers and shirts. Just thought I’d share as was wondering about it myself.

Just reported in the Kathimerini Athens broadsheet that post mortem has taken place and cause of death given as drowning, with toxicology report to follow.

Still in absolute shock over this after reading it last night.

There's really not much more I can say than what has already been said, but I feel compelled to write a few words for the man.

Being 31 myself, this man has been an absolute icon of my time supporting the blades. The rise of both himself, the team and the club from league 1 was always down to hard work, passion, grit and determination, words to describe gorgeous George all the way through. He had a never say die attitude whether we were one or four goals down. He epitomised everything it means to wear the shirt for Sheffield United. Loved by the fans, his team mates and managers. He will forever be remembered by all as not just a wonderful player, but also the wonderful man he was.

Rest in peace mate and all our thoughts go out to your friends and family. ❤️⚔️

Great tribute from Oxford United fan. Reading their forum he was much loved despite only playing for them for a short period. Seems the Baldock family had a lot of connections with Oxford his brother Sam also played for them and James the eldest is currently the Club doctor.

I’ve been trying to understand my reaction to this. I’ve lost family members which is always upsetting but to be this upset over a footballer seems a little strange. Plenty of blades players have died in my time supporting them. I suppose the closest to my reaction to George for the mens team was probably Mel Rees with the difference being we all knew it was coming. Other players were older and you sort of expected it at some point. A bit like Maddy, George’s death just came from nowhere.
As with others I never really met him or knew him but I feel like I’ve lost one of my best mates. I’m trying to work but keep looking back on here and upsetting myself again. Can’t even imagine what his family are going through but I for one would always extend a loving welcome to them if ever they feel they can come to the Lane.
I think it's partly because he was still on our books earlier this year. Our memories of him are very fresh. We've literally just spent seven years (several of which were excellent) watching George be instrumental in these relatively good times, giving 110% every game.

Every game this month is going to be emotional for the fans and players alike, perhaps the international break has come at a good time.
You can be sure the atmosphere at our next home game on 26th October v Stoke, regardless of the result, will be like nothing we've experienced before.

RIP Starman

So sad.
A wonderful player in the team on the pitch.
A wonderful player in the team of humanity.

If we do have a minutes silence/applause at the Stoke match, please let us properly show our for repect him by having it in the second minute, not the third.
