Bottom of the league , shite draw opposition whose fans are travelling up in a Smart car
oodles of delussioned fans
Friday night, many people going out as a preferred option

lowest crowd for 30 odd years beckons

ps Im working and cant be bothered to swap shifts

There will surely be more there than the 9,000 against Port Vale in Heath's last match, and any idea how many were there for Bassett's last match (Huddersfield?) - as I recall that crowd being rather sparse.

No evidence, but it could be a very quite night.

Wont be the lowest crowd as season tickets count even if people dont go. Thought I was away but now its on Friday Im here so going to have to go. Have to make a long trip to the boozer first and maybe neck a few valium to help me get through it.

well we enter October without a forward having scored a goal , that must be a record of some sort

It all depends how you define a forward, but going back to 61-62, I would say our first foward to score was as follows:

61-2 Game 1 Pace
62-3 Game 1 Pace
63-4 Game 1 Pace
64-5 Game 3 Jones
65-6 Game 1 Birchenall
66-7 Game 3 Reece , of if he counts as a winger, game 5 Birchenall
67-8 Game 1 Jones
68-9 Game 1 Woodward
69-70 Game 1 Reece/Woodward
70-1 Game 1 Addison

I don't think anyone who went to the Preston game, actually thought the attendance was 16,000, and Preston brought about 2,000 looking at the away end. Friday will be much worse, football boards can give leeway at times in regards to results, but falling attendances is the quickest way to be shown the door.

As always come friday I'll be looking forward to it,... but its last chance saloon for DW.

well theres a default 12000 season ticket holders counted but if 10% of these stay away a gate of 14000 might only be say 12500

If we lose he has to go or theyll be a shoe flying at weirs head , apparently theyll understand that

I thought Woodward was a right winger?

in those days you played 235, you had 5 forwards wingers inside forwards and a centre forward
thats why it was better, much more offensive

What in 1973!?
A full 7 years after Ramsay's 4-4-2 "wingless wonders" won the World Cup?
I think 2-3-5 had pretty much died out by the 70's BTL.
No doubt a more senior Blade can either confirm or deny :)

By the time Woodward played 2-3-5 had longed died out. Most teams player 4-2-4 or 4-3-3. We tended to play the former with our forwards in the mid 60's when Woody first came through being Woodward/Jones/Birchenall/Reece.

We started playing 4-3-3 in the early 70's, with the promotion winning forward line being Woodward-Dearden-Reece. Woody continued to play as a forward until we were relegated in 1976 when he started to play midfield in a 4-4-2 line up.

dont think there was definite coaching into formations till Revie and his ilk ruined football, was 11 v 11 , no subs and gung ho most of the time and better for it , all this opta stats shit is an americanisation of a once beautiful sport, coaches like Big Sam counting squares from overhead cameras is an affront to genuine talent

footballers are measured on body fat ratos and speed above built in talent today , bores the shit out of me
