We've had some pretty interesting match defining moments in most of our lifetimes as Blades, whether it was Jags' thunderbolt against Leeds or Mitch Wards substitute appearance against Blackburn (with help from our new assistant manager Corky!) for example. We've all talked about them with mates, with other football fans, most likely on here from time to time.

But what is the one "game changing" moment you look back on with most fondness, what event still makes the hairs stand up and puts a smile on your face? How would you describe it from memory and how did it/does it still make you feel?

I'll post mine as soon as I've decided which tops my list :D

As well as being a topic i'm really interested in and that allows us to re-live and discuss some enjoyable moments as supporters (lets face it, they can be few and far between! :D), I've also been in touch with the people who we run the ticket competitions in conjuction with. 188Bet are to ask a similar sort of question to fans of the other clubs that they sponsor and collate and publish peoples answers, giving prizes to the fans who's memories are most commented on by other football supporters.

I'm not going to assume that everyone posting on this thread wants that to happen, that's not what the thread is for.

However, if you'd like your memory/favourite moment to be potentially included in the 188bet collation, just put a note at the end of your post saying so and I'll pass them on in about a weeks time. Anything without a quick note of permission WILL NOT be passed on.

Does it have to be concerning your own club? Because every now and then I watch videos of Beckham's goal against Greece that took England to the World Cup, and I always get a tear in my eye. It gets me every time. Last minute, with nothing more than a glimmer of hope, Beckham's been knocking them over all game (but getting closer) and we need a miracle. You can tell in the way he's standing before he takes it that this is going to be something special. And... well... you know the rest. Sails in the top corner, Old Trafford goes wild and pubs up and down the country ignite.

Idealy yes. That's the intention of my thread :)

I'd imagine as 188Bet are seperately asking a similar question of fans of other clubs they sponsor, their intentions would also be for people to be talking about their own club.

This one best ever ...............................

Peschisolido`s goal in the play-off semi at bramall lane-OMG OMG!!!!!,that night i was so proud to support sheffield utd as its the best ive ever seen them play since i started going to the lane in 88.I hope one day i will feel the same way about our great club.

Step forward Mr David Holdsworth in the 1998 FA Cup Quarter Final against Coventry. United are one-nil down in the 89th minute when Holdsworth managed to somehow fold himself in half to volly the ball into the top corner of the net. Before that moment I thought we were dead and buried but when the ball hit the net I went absolutely batshit crazy! The Blades played well in extra time and we got the victory on penalties. Magic night!

It was toss up between that and Mitch that I mentioned in my first post. Two quality ties that will always stick in my memory.

Keith Edwards' late winner vs Wigan at BDTBL in the 4th division in 1982.

It probably has that special memory as Foxy describes as that was my first regular season and the first of those special night games. Both sides were at the top of the table and we had a seemingly enormous 20K+ in the ground.

We had a lot of fun baiting Larry Lloyd "you're just a fat b*****d, Larry Lloyd, Lloyd" and he took it in great humour, even mooning at the Kop at one stage. He played really well, mopping up everything we threw at them, seemingly single handed at times and he had Keith in his pocket.

I'm not sure how long there was to go but I can still see it unfold in my mind's eye. Our keeper (Keith Waugh? my memory is f***d) rolled the ball out from the Bramall Lane end to John Matthews who sent it wide to Colin Morris. Morris beat his man and sent a low cross to the near post where Edwards got away from Lloyd for the first time that night and buried it in front of the Kop - cue pandemonium!

Phew, still get the feeling reliving that one :-)

What about Unsworths goal against hull, last minuite, virtually set us up for the premiership return.

Does anybody remember Edwards dummying the keeper and running the opposite way to the ball, rounding the keeper and slotting the ball home? Pele tried exactly the same move some years earlier but missed!!!

A couple that do it for me are Keith Edwards when he levelled it to 2-2 against Everton in about 84 in a league cup game. The United fans to a man where singing as Keith Edwards Keith Edwards Keith Edwards reverberated around the ground.
Everton were flying at the time under Kendall, pity we got drubbed 4-0 in the away leg.
My all time fav is Gary Hamson's screamer knocking Liverpool the champions of Europe out of the same competition in 1978. I was on the kop that night as a 14 yr old and he was right in front of me when he let fly from Sabella's little shimmy.
I have a framed print of that goal signed by Gary hanging proudly on the wall. My missus hates it ;-)
On an England note mine has to be Michael Owen against the Argies in 98 still tinglwe when I see that one.
Football eh,how can it evoke such great memories and emotions

Now we're talking. As a 10 year old dreading school the following day after our nailed on drubbing, that was truly amazing. I remember the Kop being rammed, and a fire in the middle of it. Oh, and Gary's winner..:D

Bit of a choice, there are loads.

Two big ones for me, not so much game changers, but massive dramatic goals

Ward v Blackburn, FA Cup Quarter
Holdsworth v Coventry, FA Cup Quarter

Both games we went on to win on pens

But for me it has to be Michael Brown's Volley v Wednesday in 2003 to send us 2-1 up after being 0-1 down.

I wasn't at the Forest Play Off Semi, but for me that goal and Jags equaliser v Leeds just lifted the roof off the Lane.

Tony Field's goal against Ipswich in the early days of the 74/75 season, in front of watching England manager Don Revie who spoke in the press about picking him. Look it up on Youtube. I was 13, and had seen Brazil score goals like that on the telly. He wasn't with us for long, but has always been underrated, he was a good player.

Carl Veart V Arsenal ....I'd forgot about that one,get in there !!!!!!!!!!!

Best game-changer live - Pesky's goal vs Forest.

Best game changer on radio - Unsworth vs Hull.

One of my favourite game changers that I saw on TV isn't a goal, but an act that led to a key goal in the 2003 derby at home. 1-0 down after Alan Quinn's goal, we need a quick goal back. We press for an equaliser and Stuart McCall throws himself in to tackle a Wednesday player in the box and flick the ball to Kabba to score. The rest of that night is history, but Macca's effort in that instance I will always remember. Quite rightly given MOTM by Chris Kamara that night too.

Theres one I remember. It wasn't a goal as such though. Can't even remember who we were playing, but the opposing team were attacking, and their player was just about to shoot on goal in the 6 yard box, when Wilf Rostron managed to head the ball away, even though he was laying on the ground from a previous challenge. Was brilliant. From that moment it motivated all the other players and we went on to win the game.

I was there for that one, a fantastic time. It is very odd that the 4th division season is looked back on with so much affection by so many Blades fans.

Unsworth's goal late on against Hull in the last promotion season - virtually put us up.

Two clear choices for me:

Deano's lob against Grobbelaar from the touchline in the early 90's.

Michael Brown's volley against the pigs - even my piggy brother was impressed with it.

Ooops missed this one. And yes that Edward's goal is my favourite memory from watching the Blades, I think it was in a 4-0 win against Bristol Rovers, if anyone has a video of that goal I would pay good money for a copy - sadly I have never seen it since match day. And you missed out the salute Edward's gave to the kop before he slotted the ball in - magic.

Although people say Kabba's and Pesch's against Forest, I think Browny's free kick so soon after their 2nd (can't remember who scored it ;)) was the turning point and was certainly about as loud as I can remember the Lane being in recent times. For such an important game as well, just a massive shame we didn't turn up at Wembley as I would have loved to have seen that team take a chance in the Prem.

I don't think it was filmed, sadly.

The keeper and defender collided, it was that good a dummy.

Peschi or Unsworth would do it for me, with an honourable mention for Kachouro scoring in the playoff semi at Ipswich. I have never seen overconfident supporters silenced so effectively...

Not so much a moment but a game; vs Forest just before Christmas 1990. If ever there was a game changer, that was it.
