Ooops missed this one. And yes that Edward's goal is my favourite memory from watching the Blades, I think it was in a 4-0 win against Bristol Rovers, if anyone has a video of that goal I would pay good money for a copy - sadly I have never seen it since match day. And you missed out the salute Edward's gave to the kop before he slotted the ball in - magic.

I don't think it was filmed, sadly.

The keeper and defender collided, it was that good a dummy.

Yep, it's a great shame that most of Sir Keith's goals for us are not available anywhere, what a great DVD the 4th division season would be. We could have shown it to Ched and let him pick up one or two things !

I don't think it was filmed, sadly.

As far as Im aware it wasnt. However, you never know. I picked up a DVD recently of United beating Chelsea 2-1 at Stamford Bridge in 1973. I scour the internet for old Blades footage and even Id not seen that one before.

A couple that do it for me are Keith Edwards when he levelled it to 2-2 against Everton in about 84 in a league cup game. The United fans to a man where singing as Keith Edwards Keith Edwards Keith Edwards reverberated around the ground.
Everton were flying at the time under Kendall, pity we got drubbed 4-0 in the away leg.

Now that goal is on film: It's on the end of one of the United videos I own, I think the "100 years, 100 goals" one.

The funny thing about that goal is that Edwards was about 10 yards offside when the ball was passed: you can see this clearly on the video. The Everton fans were furious, and it was difficult to understand why it was allowed to stand.

I thought that put us in front though, and Everton pulled it back to 2-2 via Derek Mountfield, though I could be wrong.

and don't forget that penalty when the red cheating scumbag did the double pike and went down ........did that cost us a place in the Premiership ?

No more so than the disallowed goal at Upton Park. What a depressing season!

and the Penalty at Old Trafford on Luton Shelton, another that wasn't given!

Given our prowess from the spot that season, maybe that didn't make a difference !

The more you look back at that season, you couldn't have scripted many more things going wrong. The fact we were still 25/1 to go down with 3 games left says it all (and no, let's not dig up the 'who had a bet' discussion !) Liverpool fielding a decent team at Fulham and not losing, ManU NOT losing at home to WHam, either of those unrelated games would have kept us up in the final weeks.

here we go again...

How about WHU goal (at 1-1) at blackburn which hit Mr Tevez on the line, meaning he was

a) offside
b) stopped the ball from actually going in

they won the game 2-1, and their first in that game wasn`t a penalty either...

Good thread Foxy.

My favourite game changing moment was from fan favourite Dane Whitehouse back in 1994. An absolute belter of a goal that got us back into the match (that we eventually won).

Sheff United vs West Ham. Premiership 93/94 season. A must win game for United. My dad and I were sat on the kop and had arrived early. I was only 11 at the time and we obviously couldn't go for a drink (we waited until I was 14 :D ). We were both watching Super Dane as he warmed up. He spent about 10 minutes (with a trainer) controlling the ball. The trainer threw the ball to him and he chested it, brought it onto his thight and kicked it back into the trainers hands. We both remember watching it, but didn't speak about it.

After half an hour we were 2-0 down and looking certs for relegation. We'd been poor and given West Ham 2 sloppy goals. Everyone was shocked and quiet. Suddenly a thunderbolot from Dane changed the game. It was a United corner and West Ham cleared. The ball came to Whitehouse and he chested, brought it onto the thigh and smashed in a left footed volley from 20/25 yards. It was perfect technique and exactly the same as he'd practiced before the game. Miklosoko (I think he was West Ham's keeper at the time) stood no chance.

United went in at half time revatalised. Dane's goals was only a few minutes before half time and it boyed us. In the second half United scored twice and we won 3-2. That moment will always stay in my mind and is my favourite game changing moment. It still makes the hairs on the bag of my neck stand up and I'm getting excited whilst writing. When we got to the car my dad and I spoke about the incident. The control exercises before the game and the replica for the goal. In fact we still speak about it to this day. Often when we are having a beer before the game my old man will say 'remember that goal that Dane scored, the one where he ......'

But for me it has to be Michael Brown's Volley v Wednesday in 2003 to send us 2-1 up after being 0-1 down.

Another good call.

Step forward Mr David Holdsworth in the 1998 FA Cup Quarter Final against Coventry. United are one-nil down in the 89th minute when Holdsworth managed to somehow fold himself in half to volly the ball into the top corner of the net. Before that moment I thought we were dead and buried but when the ball hit the net I went absolutely batshit crazy! The Blades played well in extra time and we got the victory on penalties. Magic night!

Good call Jozzer. Revolution and I have been discussing the first game (at Highflield Road) in the Coventry match thread (http://www.s24su.com/showthread.php...-City-v.-Sheffield-United&p=303331#post303331)

For such an important game as well, just a massive shame we didn't turn up at Wembley as I would have loved to have seen that team take a chance in the Prem.

Just as well, the final was at Cardiff. :D

Soz, Jim (shouldn't this be in the 'Rumours' section?)

Seriously, I remember a late, late goal v. Port Vale in the kop end, probably under Bassett that just about promoted us. Around '88/'89? Anyone got more details?

It was Deano...April 1990... we needed to win to stay in 2nd place.

It was 1-1 going into the last minute, when a scrambled ball in the box broke to Deano, who took one touch and then slammed it home past Grew.

Anybody remember Dellas's instant impact against Pompey in 1997? He'd been on about 2 minutes and the ball was cleared out towards him.40 yards out he took one look at the kop and slammed home a piledriver right in the top corner. The man had a right foot like a traction engine... :) .

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2nA66WguOm0 Hope this is viewable. Imo when the stuck up twats lost their status as sheffield's number 1 and the balance was changing.
What a night, you'll know what I mean if you were there!!!!

probably my best night as a Blade.

Was sat in the North Stand and automatically jumped up when Dane scored that first. had an initial reaction of 'head going to be kicked in' until i looked round and saw what seemed like hundreds of other Blades celebrating. This was the era when they were pushing for Europe and we were struggling to stay in lower mid table...an easy win for them was predicted.
When the final whistle went, their seemed to be more Blades in the crowd than home fans. Getting soaked walking back into town didn't bother me one bit

Richard Batho was on Wendy's kop, and jumped up when Dane's goal went in!

Lol, we were in the top right hand side of the grunters north stand and exactly like you thought TIN HAT time until I realised about 3000 Blades around us.

November 17th 1991.

A perfectly executed hospital ball from John Gannon that was beautifully calculated at just the right loft, power and trajectory, that when it landed it took both Warhurst and Sheridan out of the game, and set us on the way to a league double.

Some say that there are just too many variables in football to make predictions, but on the day i firmly believe that Gannon saw what was coming, stuck two fingers up at Chaos Theory, and unleashed hell.

For me its Unsworth's winner against Hull. After being 2-0 up and apparently cruising, we were on the wrong end of a Hull fightback, and when they pulled it back to 2-2 I thought we'd thrown it away. When unsworth scored it was fantastic - i think i ended up 10 rows from my seat. Brilliant

My first derby match. I remember Flashing Blade having a cut out and keep Chris Woods Legs Apart Doll on the back cover in the next edition.

Thanks, CL. I was on the kop and came round about 30 yards from where I was originally stood! (Hence the memory loss :D).

So it must have been very near to the famous Leicester 5-2, week before?

2 weeks before. We beat Bournemouth in the last home match the following week.

After we beat Brighton 5-4 in the 4th game of in the season, we were always on the top 2 until we lost 4-0 at Leeds on Easter Monday. The Port Vale win put us back in again, as Newcastle could only draw at Plymouth.

United went in at half time revatalised. Dane's goals was only a few minutes before half time and it boyed us. In the second half United scored twice and we won 3-2.

That was the first time I'd ever seen United come back from 2 down to win in over 15 years of watching them...

It's a fair cop, I've tried to blot that game out of my memory over the years !

Yeah, the Port Vale winner, as featured on the 'United' TV prog. Scored with an injured foot if memory serves.

The goals from the Brighton game are on youtube - a Brighton fan has uploaded them.

A hitch hiking London Blade has the match video, Ive been trying to get it off him for years.

I have a few of match videos from the 85/86 season. A Cup win against Fulham and league wins against Brighton and L**ds.

Final whistle at Portman Road and for the first time in my lifetime we were off to Wembley.

Still brings a tear to the eye typing it.

Great night that Rev. We went on to beat Newcastle the following Sat-di (I think) with a brace from Blake and I was absolutely sure that we'd stay up. It was last day heart break, but that match against the dirty hammers will always stand out in my mind.

Erm no.

The WHU game was a Monday night in March, we beat Liverpool at Anfield the following Saturday.

The game that did for us in the run in (IMO) was a home defeat to Villa having been 1-0 up after 17 min, 10 mins later we were 2-1 down.
