That we don't play like that every game! Bar the first 20 minutes, I thought we were very good today. Solid defensively, much better in midfield and decent going forward. Makes me wonder if a lack of effort is a big factor in our poor season as today, the players wanted the ball, went into every tackle and showed desire and voila! This squad is good enough to finish in the top 8 as we've shown at times this season, it's just so frustrating they don't always seem to want it.

Special mentions to Edgar, Baptiste and Basham today. They were excellent.

What is the most frustrating for me is that despite the poor pre-season recruitment, despite the failure to recognise the error of not recruiting in pre-season, despite the disastrous car crash of the first half of the season ........ if we had continued the clear-out that we started in January and recruited wisely in the JTW, we could still have made the play-offs.

This is mainly due to the fact that this division has so little quality in it and we didn't have the investment, ambition, knowledge, professionalism and ability to take advantage of it !! :(

What a badly missed opportunity ........ again. Board, Manager, Scouts, Players ........ hang your heads in shame and ask forgiveness from our long-suffering and loyal fans .......

This is my main frustration too.

This league is utterly shite. Even the teams at the top are shite.

As shite as we've been, like you say, we *could* have made the play offs.

If next season we finish third because Charlton and a revitalised Bolton have come down and pissed the League we will look back at the state of the division this season and weep.

And if we played like we did against Southend every week we might have ended up on nul points for the season.

Two excellent goals, an outstanding performance from Basham, but still weaknesses in the side like McEveley, Hammond, Coutts. Walsall offered very little similar to every other team to visit this season.

I thought we were good for about 20 minutes before half time but pretty poor before that and pretty boring in the second half.

Still not convinced Mr. Adkins.

Agree, and Walsall were as bad if not worse than any team to come to the Lane this season. Truth is today's win probably saved Adkins from the chop, but credit where it's due a wins a win and Walsall never looked like scoring. Special mention for Basham, head and shoulders man of the match.

Warnocks toytown or mk dons will walk it

After a nothing start from both teams, for the last 20 mins of the first half we were excellent. We have seen very little quality this season but both goals were really well worked - and Sharp's goal was a great finish too.

We didn't really push on in the 2nd half but I thought we were fairly comfortable.

A good performance overall after a largely woeful season. And we won which for me is always the most important thing.

Walsall like Burton looked very average. This season was such a great opportunity to go up.

Nigel Clough will be a very lucky man if he manages to splutter Burton over the line and get a promotion to his name.

That 1st half particularly that last 20 mins of 1st half were outstanding. Going 2-0 up v promotion contenders & couldve been more with playing some great football. I know some of people recently hate it when Ive talked about potential. But despite the loads of crap & if we finish 13th it will (apparently) be statistically our worse season since 1982

but its the potential/gut instinct that I cant put a finger on that keeps my belief that despite the growing anti adkins army especially after Southend. That it will take patience but we are on the right track with adkins
