Sheffield United will resurrect their interest in Dan Burn when the emergency loan window opens on Wednesday, The Star understands.

Burn had been set to join Nigel Adkins’ side from Fulham before the deadline for permanent signings last week but the transfer stalled due to an undisclosed contractual issue.

But with both clubs determined to push the deal through, United hope to unveil the defender later this month. Burn and his representative are also thought to have signalled their approval when Bramall Lane’s hierarchy were granted permission to open talks.

Although Adkins has refused to elaborate on the matter publicly, he pointedly refused to rule-out the possibility his “leading targets” arriving in the near future before launching a staunch defence of United’s recruitment policy.

“We are always looking to improve,” he said. “But there is a good balance here at the moment and we don’t want to upset that. So, anybody who comes in must strengthen that.

As if expected we sign this lad which looks imminent our squad average height will have gone up nearly a foot in a few months.
One constant aspect of complaint was our sheffield midgets fc tag
We are now going to the other end of the spectrum and employing players who can change the floodlight bulbs on a footstool

The only reason it perhaps looks and is perceived , we are going to the other end of the spectrum with players heights is balance .Adkins is going down this route with certain players for one reason only .- To assemble and create a decent mix of players to compete in all areas on the pitch.

Thats the long and short of it .

Hmm, bit of a tall story that.

Willie Hodgson? Alan Wright? Willie cardin? Take your pick!

Carlin was 5-4 but my word he could play. Of course 6-1 was very tall in those days. I remember the amazement when, years later, Chelsea introduced the freakishly tall 6-4 man-mountain Mickey Droy. Barely merits a mention these days.

Anyway, enough of the small talk....

Willie Carlin was doing the hospitality thing at Derby County four or five years ago. Bert met him there over a glass or two of chardonnay, along with Archie Gemmil. Carlin is indeed a short arse.

The glass of Chardonnay - Small , medium or large :D

I think we need a photoshop wiz to put a pic of Scougall standing on Byrne's shoulder against a backdrop of the Oasis album cover "standing on the shoulders of giants".

I'm 6'4" so less of the freakish. Anyway, reminds me of one of the funny events at the Lane. Chelea were in town, very muddy pitch and wet in other words like it was for most of the season. Challenge goes in, howl of pain and the upshot is the Droy has broken his leg. From the corner of the Kop comes that collection of odd-balls known as St John's ambulance with a canvas stretcher. After taking ages it beomes obvious that this stretcher isn't big enought to accommodate Droy, but they haven't got another one. After much fussing they get him on this thing, with a bloke holding his legs to prevent them dangling over the end (not good with a broken leg). As if this isn't enough of a panto, they managed to slip and slide and drop him off off the stretcher as they leave the pitch. You could here the Droy expletives all the way back on the kop! :)
