A question I heard last night. Who scored the SECOND ever goal in The Premiership?

I reckon it has to be Deane. He managed 94 (or 93 depending on whether you count his goal v Leeds in 1993 or class it as an OG).

I am still not sure if Deane scored in the 5-4 win against Brighton. Looked an OG to me. Still not sure if he touched Gannon's FK in the 2-1 win at QPR in April 1991

I agree about the QPR game, but think he did get a touch in the Brighton game.

There was another game against QPR in his second spell on 18/10/97 when Borbokis puts a low cross in from the right and Deane swings his boot at it but it doesn't look like he cnnects. The swing wrongfooted the goalie and the ball trickled in at the far post. It was credited to Deane, but it's Borbokis' goal for me.

Agree with you about the Borbokis goal. Also in 1971 Colquhoun claimed the ball hit his leg when TC blasted a chance through a crowd of players in the 2-0 win against Portsmouth (I had a good view of the shot in the BLUT and the shot was definitely deflected) but most of our players ran to congratulate TC and Eddie was pointing to his own chest shouting "It was me!"

I seem to remember something similar happening away at Spurs from a Kevin Gage cross. I think we won 1-0 if anyone can confirm. It's the most pissed up I've ever been at a football match - I still get bits of recurring hangover from it even now.

Yep, I was there too. It was Gage's debut and the goal was initially credited to Deane, but was quickly corrected to give Gage the goal.

We did indeed win 1-0 and it was our first away win of the season. The game was also notable for probably the shortest ever United first team career - Nathan Peel was brought on as sub in injury time to wind down the clock. That was his only first team apperance. I suspect you missed it.

Yep, we beat Wed 2-0 on Sunday 17th Nov and beat Spurs 1-0 on Sat the 23rd.

when deane left in 1993 he had 83 goals so technically is it Dane Whitehouse with 51 goals ???
