Football Heaven, or Football Hell!?

Finished work at 6 and thought, il have a listen to FH on my drive home, what an error!
I knew it wasn't the best, but this Mike McCarthy bloke is totally useless, he has absolutely no clue about anything to do with our local clubs, he grasps at anything to get a caller, the callers he does get seem so backward, they must have eyes in their arsed, I honestly have never heard so much shit on that show.
However this guy still has a job on radio is totally beyond me it really is.

Jesus, I almost crashed my van, just to make sure i was still conscious!
I've never heard such utter shit on that show since this new "presenter" joined, and I use the word "presenter" very very loosely!!

I'm about to burn myself with the iron for tuning in! I will remember then, that I must not lower myself to that level again!
 
I listen once a week or so. Tonight's been one of the more coherent recent episodes, to be honest. Low bar, mind.

but its a dedicated daily hour to south yorkshire football. when bar last 18 mths for last 7 yrs ( inc relegation season) the national media couldn't care. without that your lucky if you get 10mins a month with them talking about sheffield United

To be fair I travelled south last night and tried Derby/Nottingham/Coventry/Leicester and Birmingham stations ,they are all much worse than Sheff. at least I know a bit about leamington Spa and Stafford now :rolleyes:
 
Just looking for Brian the Blade and Mark the Pitsmoor Pig on here, not seen them yet.

 
To be fair, it’s open to us all to call up, we don’t just have to listen to the usual suspects every night. As Sitwell points out, there’s some right garbage on most other local radio stations. We’re very lucky to have a nightly football programme, I listen to it whilst I wash the pots and there are some good calls, and we’ve had, and still got some decent presenters. I’ve never rung in myself because as a Blade it doesn’t pay to brag, and when we don’t play well I’d rather keep things to myself and not let pigs hear me having a go at the club.
Any phone in is only as good as it’s callers, only we can make it better.
 



I like listening to it. Wherever I am I usually get it up on my phone and listen live or by playback later.

I had to smile at the Barnsley fan who spoke about “common sense” but sounded like he’d got none.

And another fan who said he’d tried to take his father’s ashes into the ground to scatter them but the club were having none of it, so he scattered them on Woodhead instead. Maybe this explains why the Woodhead pass sometimes remains open when the Snake Pass is closed?
 
These Radio Sheffield threads do my head in. If you don't like it, listen to something else whilst driving or doing your ironing as it obviously makes you a danger to yourself and possibly others. It's very simple! Personally I think we are blessed in the region to have such good coverage of our local teams. Without them, when would you get to hear from your teams manager unless they were flying high in what ever league they were in. Doubt we would have heard much from anyone of the national stations during our spell in League one so long may Football Heaven continue for me.

Absolutely!

Those who criticise it have a golden opportunity to join in and raise the standards of the show. It’s the callers who make it what it is. The presenters are mere conduits through which the effluence flows.
 
Don't mind the show overall, it's the useless excuse of a presenter in Mike McCarthy, atleast Rob holds discussions and talk with relevance to our local clubs, and knows when to cut short, calls from some individuals.
Mike just keeps them on the line, as he fears not getting another caller, as he has little to no clue of what to say, or how to conduct a serious discussion.
 
The new buzzword for McCarthy is ‘They couldn’t...could they?’ Which is usually followed by a procession of Pork saying ‘I don’t want to raise expectations because we’re too far behind the the top at this stage...but...’

Couldn't disagree more.
The station and those employees who host the show are responsible for its standards. As long as they tolerate and encourage the pond life that monopolise it people will switch off. The same allows to the joke rag that is clinging on for dear life. Crap journalism, click bait and cold callers door knocking to offer the damn thing delivered free for a wee in a pathetic attempt to lift it's circulation out of the gutter.
Back to radio shitfield football heaven is like a pub. It has a landlord ie the presenter. If scrotes are allowed in the inevitable and inexorable outcome is all decent folk walk away.
 
I blame my seven year old daughter. She puts it on just to wind me up as she knows I can't stand it.

They can only air those that phone up.

There are some good contributors but the majority are not so bright it seems. If they didn’t allow them on there’d be no show!

I find the dullards add to the appeal of the show. It’s not “Question Time” with David Dimbleby - and all the better for it imo!

There's not enough facile crap pervading every aspect of our everyday lives.

Well you know what to do, ring up and raise the standard of the programme. You being on might keep some of the usual bores off.

Turn off and stop listening...jeeze. People who watch and listen to things and then complain, what is wrong with you. There are plenty of things to do and enjoy in life without wasting your time doing something just so you can complain about it....DO SOMETHING ELSE...and let the rest of us who like it enjoy it!

I don’t fully agree but I can see where you’re coming from! I think that social media has opened the door to a whole new world of self-publicists that would otherwise have never had a voice. And it’s not all good!

I remember “the vanity press”. A time when if you wanted to get yourself heard, or read, you had to pay for the privilege. At the time the media was a privileged few.

I remember writing lots of letters to the “Tell it to Tony” feature in the Green ‘Un” and wishing for it to get printed. I was thrilled to see something I thought of and wrote, published. (I was even more thrilled when Tony Pritchett phoned me at home to discuss one article with me!).

But now everyone has a voice. It’s not all good. Like the tosspots on Facebook who want to tell us what a wonderful day/life they are having.

The solution though is not to stop the idiots, but encourage those who have something worthwhile to say. I think that’s a difficult balancing act for a radio station tbh.

There are a few callers who make really good contributions. There are many others who don’t. I still enjoy listening to them. It makes me realise how lucky I am not to have turned out like them, and what a near miss that may have been!:eek:
