fool to think things would change

It really is an awkward one to judge, on the face of things outgoings have exceeding incomings purely in terms of transfer fees (based on the fees speculated), but when you throw in agents fees, signing on fees and increased wages I think we've invested a lot this close season.

I'd be surprised however if we aren't in the black from the various comings and goings

I would be one of the first to be critical of the club if they had sold some of our better players Flynn , ( didn't he sign a new contract ? ) Murphy , and the new lad for "this season " young Scoogs . Based on second half of seasons form that is .
Harry wanted to go and further his career , who can blame him , not me , would he have gone if we we're in the championship I doubt it
Can I just give you an example close to home Judgy , Everton , saved up the money from sales last year and have signed a few players this close season . Something we could do in Jan transfer window ? If needed , with some of Harry's money .
We can't attract the players we all want ,hence Coady to Udders , because of the league we are in , this league is the death knell
For players wanting to further there career , hope I'm wrong with the beard .
I don't want our club over stretching and then when , god forbid we don't get promoted we are in the shits ,
we have to be realistic and be patient and I'm glad that the club is not being held to ransom by players or there agents ( freeman )
I trust our manager to do his job and am happy with most of his signings , who have to get a weekly wage , which is paid by ?
I want a team , and squad to get out of this league , next year I expect bigger and better signings ,
For our , the club , and Mr Clough's future .
UTB .

Apologies, it wasn't a lie though was it, really... you said we'd spent nothing...

So are you backtracking now and saying that we have spent some money? Kind of changes your argument a little don't you think?

You made a general statement about not spending, not specifically stating the Maguire money.

TBH I was thinking the same until we signed higdon that is all I had been asking sign a striker using real money and we have. When the deal was going through there were lots of fees banded about I even found a site quoting 2m. I know we didn't pay 2m but I think you may find it is upto 1m depending on various things. We paid around 250k for McNulty and what ever the tribunal ask for, for the lad from Blackpool. People forget we have a wage structure to stay within league one rules that's why Clough wants to loan various players as that falls in a different category. Freeman hasn't signed because he wants that extra cash and Clough needs to leave a bit extra for other incoming wages, if you listen to his interview on ssn he clearly says a couple more in but not for Saturday.

NC has stated a few times he is building us a squad to get us out of this hell-hole division, not for the future. He has had to do so within financial regulations and the budgetary requirements of the Board. If you want to allocate the dosh then the Cup-Run money has gone on the pitch plans for next season and doubtless the Maguire transfer fee will be staged with probably less than half up-front.

We have signed 10 players, paying a fee for 2 of them and compensation for a 3rd. We have released/sold 11 and only received a fee, (besides Maguire) for 1, (Taylor) which wouldn't have been much at all.

The players coming in will undoubtedly be on higher wages than those released and whilst we will receive further payments on Maguire as things stand over the coming season we have spent a lot more than we have bought in.

anyway....Judge has gone on the ignored list

Im just going to shut up about it now im obviously in the minority

"Wildly stating" ? Really ? I didnt literally mean zero cash has gone from our budget on players but after being told we dont need to sell players and will hang onto our young talent we went on to sell an academy graduate who has played for england u-21 's

As far as I can see the signings so far are all free transfers, of course of you can provide some evidence that we have paid a transfer fee for any one then please tell me how much it is ? Im genuinely interested to know

Yes wildly stated as you haven't backed up your comment of 'no money spent', just as you still state 'as far as you can see the signings so far are all free transfers'. You haven't provided any evidence that all of the signings were free's, so i assume that you have none either, which begs the question why state clearly that we've spent nothing.

I don't need to provide evidence of fees paid as I'm not the one stating that we spent no money, i just asked you to back up your statement. As I said before, i'm not one to obsess on fees paid or not, the concern i have is that we have strengthened and with the 9 signings we've made i'm extremely happy. My only statement would be that i wished that we could get Brayford as he gives us so much more down the wing, but realistically its unlikely as he's contracted to a side with the benefits of Premier league money.

As for selling Maguire, sure he's a good player and has done well, but i'm not concerned that he's gone, he was a class above this division. I think the sale of Harry has been a considered one, Clough saw fit to sell him, i don't believe he was under any pressure to sell by the club, the only pressure was from the player himself and no doubt his agent. I couldn't even care less what we got for him, other than it being enough to bolster the squad further if necessary. The bold text having the emphasis there.

how much money have we spent ? Not enough to buy a house at lodge moor

If the club didnt want to sell harry then why did they chase hull down the street reducing the asking price a 100,000 grand a paving slab

We didnt even bid for either of them

Mid table for us next year if we spend some cash in january to get us out of yhe relagation zone

How do you know we didnt bid?
And if we didnt maybe Clough didn want to?

Don't forget, that these players coming in on 'frees',will demand a signing on fee, often to the perceived value of their transfer if they were being sold ,or at least use that as a starting point for negotiation !
Higdon,I heard from a decent source, cost us a fee of 250k to his club ,so we can take that one from there....

This is key, there are no such things as "Free" transfers.

Personally, I'd rather we spent as little money as possible to get out of this league, we're going to need every penny we've got when we get promoted.

Im just going to shut up about it now im obviously in the minority

Wish I had done that last night myself! We are still a top 2 side in my eyes, however the team that finished last season just needed a few signings in my eyes and we have made wholesale changes. My worry is that when we go up, the team is going to be rebuilt again. I was kind of looking for a Norwich/Southampton scenario and I just hope some of the players brought in find the confidence to go up another level when needed. There is a reason some of them haven't played above this division.

Clough said we'd spent a fee on Higson when he was signed.
McNulty was signed for an undisclosed fee as was Harrison McGahey.

All confirmed by the club.

The current Flashing Blade has McNulty's fee as £125k. That's obviously not gospel, but Matt usually has a good idea of what's going on.

My point was that the club have confirmed there was a fee, just not what that fee was.
That confirms that money had been spent.

we have 11 new recruits a couple weve paid fees for , wages though will be around 4 to 5 million with PAYE AND INSURANCES meaning around 5/6 million investment
so to say weve spent nothings a little out of context

I don't mind us spending as little as possible to get out of this league,as long as we get out of it.

Some people think this is going to be easy, but having time to reflect myself, its going to be far from it and i for one don't want us regretting not bringing in a few extra quality players, knowing we had the money to get them.

Sheffielder makes a very good point about us needing to rebuild again IF we get promoted, and allmost all the players never playing above league one,its this that worries me the most because as you get higher up the spectrum,it gets harder to balance things up due to FFP.

It's a long, long way off to think about the Championship (let's get promoted first) but if we did get up the core of this side is relatively young and on the whole improving so that will stand us in good stead should we finally get out of this god awful league!

But really we shouldn't even be having this conversation yet

Best player sold
no money spent again
says it all

Affordable targets moving to other clubs

More chance of me backscuttling pippa middleton than us ever signing Brayford and coady

Couldn't agree more. Owners letting the fans down again or is that yet again. Antonio will be a massive miss and I can't see Mamadov's money arriving any time soon Maybe the money got burnt in the "Land of fire". Glad we aren't in their position! UTB

I know why your called sharpest blade now;)

UTB .

And next year - if we're in the Championship - we'll have our players being chased by PL teams. Who can blame them for leaving?
And so it goes on. It's the way football works.

NC obviously had targets, but for various reasons they didn't come. It happens, but no reason to just blow the HM cash for the sake of it.

We're a club 'on the up'. Thank fuck we're not in meltdown like Southampton, Leeds, Forest, Blackpool and Wendy. Now that would give us summat to moan about.

Your views are just as valid as anyone else on this site , { Sheffielder apart :) }
just because I think you may have been incorrect on this topic doesnt mean you should'nt vent your spleen , who knows at the end of the season YOU could be right . :(

Couldn't agree more, spending little only works if we get promoted.

With what NC showed regards being able to mould a team in the second half of last season, and given he's happy with his summer recruitment I have faith that we will do it, certainly a lot more faith than I've had had for a nbumber of seasons.

Personally I prefer getting the players with something to prove that can hopefully grow with us, I feel that you tend to pay over the odds trying to lure players down from higher leagues.

Anyway, fingers crossed for the coming season.

Agree Graf , but we'd be able to lay our acheivements on the table .
2 seasons ago semi's of cup final . champions last season , manager and owners speaking as one , otherwords a club on the up , which lower to middle prem player looking to get a game would'nt be impressed with that .Or championship player .
once we're up could say at least 3 now , who wouldnt be in our team that will play this season
also look at the youth of the team now and the young un's coming through ,
compare us to '' the stys on fire '' deluded up the road .
Blades up Pigs down a perfect season .

If the Blades are in a promotion position at the January window players will be more inclined to sign with the club, looking strong enough to go up.
At the moment the Blades are one of a group of contenders.
