fool to think things would change

Seriously? One day a envisage a transfer deadline day when United complete the double signing of Ronaldo and Neymar. And some of the fans are on here moaning that we've sold someone. This has defiantly been one of best transfer window we've had for a long time.

Apart from finishing progressively lower season on season for the past 5 years.

:)
Can't argue with facts. However, the last few managers we've had over that period have been gash. (As somebody who has attended many job interviews, does it not occur to the Powers That Be at United to enquire of, say, Wilson, Weir and Blackwell, about their previous performance at other clubs?)

What cannot be quantified is the 'feelgood factor'. I, like most, thoroughly enjoyed Wembley in May. Sure we lost, but so did we in 2012 and 2009 but this time you felt that we're moving in the right direction.

  • Top manager
  • Decent Summer recruiting
  • Top crowds in the division

Oh, and adidas :D

Your views are just as valid as anyone else on this site , { Sheffielder apart :) }
just because I think you may have been incorrect on this topic doesnt mean you should'nt vent your spleen , who knows at the end of the season YOU could be right . :(

Thanks :(

Can't wait for Praise and Grumble Saturday if we lose....... 'Sack the Board, Clough Out'

Some fans really are deluded, don't need to spend big to get out of this division!

  • NC has a point to prove after Derby, I don't see him resting on his laurels. He is just cautious and frugal by nature. Sometimes too cautious for our desperation to get out of this horrible league. Unfortunately, I believe he is right, it is so important to get the right people on the bus, all heading for the Championship. Hence, the reluctant release of HM. He didn't want to come along for the ride!

Wilson was a good manager, as his record shows. He was let down by Ched Evans in 2012 and by the board the following year.

What a big greasy steamer of a thread this is.....

Money has been spent on transfer fees, that's for sure. What some people don't also consider is the huge signing on fees and salaries that the club has to pay. Even the players that we've signed on a "free" won't have actually been free.

I can't believe anyone truly cares how much we spend on transfer fees. I don't want the club pissing away money simply as a show of ambition. I want the right players, not the dearest ones.

Agreed.

In this league it really is all about smart signings and ones that can form a good team. Most players that are of better quality don't want to drop to League 1 unless someone throws them daft amounts of money. We spent big in the championship and that ultimately backfired.

Not for us it wasn't.
OK, but its not sensible to judge that in isolation. He's had about 13 attempts to get teams out of the third division, and failed very time. He's clearly not a very good manager. Competent I'd accept, very good - no chance.

I think his first season falls in the " monkey could have done it with those players" category.

Absolutely right. Danny Wilson has had a spectacularly mediocre managerial career. True, he got Baaarnsley into the PL a mere 18 years ago - a variation of 'if you sling enough shit...'

Last year, his 'form' as a manager returned when he got Barnsley promptly relegated. How the fuck people like this make a 'career' out of football management is beyond me. Even if his points per game ratio was decent - as was Blackwell's - it doesn't mask the fact that the football under these two duffers was tedious.

Thats exactly right
Nigel specialises on lower end budgets
Any reason you're not a Man City fan? When was the last time Sheffield United spent an amount over summer that you thought was adequate? If it means so much to you how much is spent, how can you put up with the constant attempts to remain within budget? How long have you lived with this disappointment - nay, anguish? Are the occasional Wembley matches on TV worth the constant martyrdom?

You're a fool if you think it's over...we've only just begun...

Why not? How is his record at other clubs relevant to what he did with us?

Clough has never won a promotion with a football league team. Wilson has. Does that make Wilson a better boss?

Its never bothered me before to be honest

Because you said he was a very good manager. The stats clearly show that he's not. It's not even debatable.

Had you said "he did well in a difficult spell for us" I'd have agreed, but added that the 2nd season was near to the dreariest football I've ever witnessed,
