Hey, we're getting there...no hard feelings towards Flynny, he had the odd good game and seemed a decent lad, but just not good enough overall...
UTB!

Think that nails it. I'll always remember his goal at Villa but if we want promotion then we need better than him.

To add my two penneth on "levels". I think Flynn is an OK League 1 player. If your budget and your ambition is such that your objective is staying in League 1/ avoiding a relegation scrap, then Flynn is a decent player to have on your books. However, if you're budget and ambition is such that your objective is to mount a challenge for automatic promotion, Flynn is probably not good enough as more often than not, you need players that are better than "OK" for the level they are at.

Flynn is a player who is ideal for a team that ain't going to get promoted or relegated . Bit middle of the road . We want and expect more .

We have been satisfied for middle of the road mediocrity for too long.

Agree. Flynn is good enough for L1 but not a good L1 player (or rather not consistently good, which is needed for a promotion challenge).
Good signing for Oldham though.

That's as decent a summary of Flynn as he could expect. Tried his best and occasionally revealed more than most of us imagined he had in his locker. Says a great deal about the type of quality we've looked at over the last decade and why we're going nowhere fast until we consistently raise our expectation levels.

What have you done to my quote?

Flynny was a punt on a cheap young player. He's probably been value for money on the whole. With the wage bill DW1 inherited he couldn't spend much on back up.
My understanding is that Brighton wanted to buy him after or during our FA cup run but we turned them down and gave him a new contract, on Clough's advice. In hindsight we should have sold him but it probably seemed like the right decision at the time.

I'd like to wish him well at his new club .
He doesn't deserve most of the derogatory remarks he's getting .
He wasn't the greatest player to don the red and white , and compared to some of the dross from last year he wasnt the worst .
His contribution to our best showing at Wembley will always be remembered by me .
Good luck at Oldham , ryan . Too injury prone but a tryer .

What was that game where he blatantly got fouled in the box but didn't go down? The ref said no penalty disgracefully.

Like Gillespie at Reading away in 2005? Still cannot get over that decision. Never seen anything so blatantly a foul in my life

Never amongst our worst 5 players all the time he was with us.

No but part of the clean sweep , new broom under Wilder .

Right time to move on for all parties . When we are failing year after year to get out of this league , familiarity breeds contempt.

You are all branding Flynn as being too average and middle of the road for us.
NEWSFLASH - we haven't signed a much better replacement, and we still have plenty of players signed on in our midfield who are much much worse in terms of attitude or ability or injury prone-ness. Taking Murphy and now Flynn out the squad and replacing with just Duffy will impact on creativity, assists and goals from the wings.
I agree he was weak, nesh and had a nasty habit of slipping over at key points but we also need to be honest in our assessment of some of the players we have and a general lack of quality and pace across the squad.

He's standard League One kind of stuff. Has some good moments but overall not outstanding in any aspect. Having a load of players like him is why we've neither gone up nor down. I get why he appeals to the Oldham fans if you look at the fact he's been a part of a side that's been challenging for play-offs and had promotion ambitions, but the negative spin is that we've consistently proven that players of Flynn's standard don't get you out of this division.

He's another one that goes with no hard feelings towards the individual, but we have to have better to reach our goal. If they're desperate for players then they can do worse than a lad who'll give his all and fight hard.
