Fleck

Not worried at all about this rumour, left footed midfielders are hard to come by £4m is way too low even for a starting bid. I don't think even United with their past record would be stupid enough to sell when we are just a few points shy of a promotion spot. I suppose the next few days will tell us all we need to know about the clubs ambitions. On the other hand it could be a master stroke where Wilder has had someone better lined up for a while now, we shall see. Does anyone seriously think we would sell Fleck for £4m at this stage of the season if we had no ready replacement which we haven't as far as I'm aware, this rumour sounds as far fetched as shit from China.

if we swap Vaulks for Clarke, could he play the Fleck role? just putting 2 and 2 together and coming up with 18!

No way is vaulks good enough, not a chance.

Selling fleck would be madness, unsettle the balance of our team and be hard to replace as well as sending a poor message to others who will be in demand that we're not serious.

So he'll be off

I'm not sure Kev has enough time to stage a Rally so hopeful JF stays.

Another player who would be a more like for like replacement is stefan johansen at Fulham, although half the championship apparently want him. Plus he's Norwegian.

Just a quick look at all the left footed CM/CDM players in the Championship... Apologies in advance that the info comes from FIFA, but quickest and easiest way of finding the data.

Can't see many on there that would fit both categories of being 'realistic signings' and being able to replace Fleck's role in the team.

Uncomfortable truth: He’s not been very good this season and he’s getting worse game by game as I’ve been pointing out for several weeks.

Wilder will know why and a lot of other information that we don’t.

I agree in regards to his form, very up and down but it’s still be idiotic to sell him.

No. Vaulks is absolutely average. A proper Montgomery. He could certainly play the present Fleck role of misplaced and badly weighted passes, giving the ball away, lack of imagination, lethargy, leaden feet and offering opponents half the pitch in which to run past him.

Sorry that some of you are not seeing it but he’s a weak link at the moment, however vital he was (and he was indeed) last season. Something’s wrong with him.

Why? He’s been poor this season, beyond a simple question of ‘form’. It’s been too long to make me think this is temporary. Maybe the offer itself will invigorate him?

It’s no good people discussing the issue on a false premise, namely the Fleck of previous seasons. For whatever reason he ain’t here. One of the main reasons (sadly there are many others) that it’s difficult to engage people (not you, you’re fine by me) in sensible debate on here is that they routinely see things as they would like them to be, not as they are.

Who do you suggest plays instead if or when he goes?

Hop a long Coutts ?

League one Lunny?

You should follow me more closely. Dowell, as I’ve said consistently.. Played there with great success for Forest.

Additionally, I’ve reason to believe the transfer window is still open. Do you not think Wilder, Knill and Mitchell are constantly thinking of replacements in every position? I do.

Has he been at his very best? No
Has he been "poor"? Absolutely not!!!

3 points of autos but one of our key players has been "poor", f*ck me the mind boggles

For all those slating Vaulks as a possible replacement i'll repost the Sky Sports Power Rankings for the season to date that i posted on another thread last week.

Now i don't know if he'd be a good replacement or not as i haven't seen enough of him to make an opinion but you can't argue with the below chart as it's based on a lot of the stats and data similar to what Blades Analytics posts and has discussed on Sheffield Live.

Your mind is clearly boggling during football matches. You might see the obvious if it were not.

I’ve seen him play. He’s a mediocrity.

Great, he's a load of points for chances created and assists from the long throw in he takes. Sign him up, he'll fit right in.... Halford is on a free n all isn't he, we could have one on each side

The obvious that Fleck is clearly a very good player... works incredibly hard, creates space. Good enough for a solid prem club to want to pay money for him... Good enough for Chris Wilder to pick every single week.

But obvs you're entitled to your opinion

Anyone who’s watched us knows that Fleck and previously Coutts has an important defensive duty as well when those Centre Backs bomb forward, Dowell hasn’t got the discipline or Strength to do that, he’s the Duffy alternative.

As for replacements... tick tock.. Thursday is the 31st of January.

Personally I think west ham fear us back in the Premier league ;)

His drop in form could be that his head has been turned early on in the season. We would need a replacement as it does appear he is off to the shammers.

but the question is, could Coutts, Norwood and Duffy/Dowel/Didsy form a decent midfield consistently for the rest of the campaign?

Who could we get that's a left footed attacking midfielder - don't think there are any left that are obtainable?

Dowell always played attacking midfield for Forest. Could he be moulded into Fleck's position? I doubt it, based on his work rate and lack of aggression, but he might be a better bet than many who we could sign.

Not entirely sure what that's based on but it's a very interesting list. Callum Robinson stands out to me, still being on there despite being injured for the last 3 months.

It’s been ages since a well-weighted Fleck pass that’s led to a key moment for us in a game. You have to cast your mind back all of 3 days to the ball he played to Stevens that led to the penalty.
